I think the topic itself was flawed. Illegal immigrants is a vicisious system that is totally illegal. But unlike previous leads of Hirani movies where the leads are challenging the corrupt system ,SRK is unintentionally justifying the system. (That's also why Sanju didn't resonant much.) Gangubai tackles this tricky situation better. It maintains the delicate balance b/w romanticization vs reality. We do sympathize with her but also became cautious of awful condition the system propose.
the most messed up i felt was when they didnt give enough pause during VICKY KAUSHAL death scene. i was shocked, itna build up and finally death ke baad character ko accha farewell bhi nahi diye. EMOTIONS kidhar hai?

You know what was missing? BROMANCE! Even with the king of romance I felt nothing for Manu and Hardy's relationship at all. Would've been much better if the film followed to duo of Vicky's character and Hardy. Hirani and Joshi do the bond between two male characters very well, the dynamic between them is always THE or one of the highlights.

Thank you for doing this, and this is a very good analysis. Munnabhai MBBS was the reason I got interested in films, and eventually ending up wanting to be a filmmaker. But the day I watched Dunki, it was heart-breaking to see your hero fail so hard. Apart from Hirani, I also feel that this film is a part of the same series that Fan, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Dilwale, Raees, and Zero are a part of - films where SRK as a star ended up overpowering the film, and probably even the director. Would love to see you explore this in an essay someday!
I partially agree with you. Because Fan was a brilliant movie which was out of the mould which SRK has ever done. JHMS was also not the usual SRK movie but also not too different as Imtiaz Ali is usually known for. It was that Imtiaz Ali wanted to make a simple to understand movie and not a intellectual one like Tamasha or Rockstar, etc. Raees was a massy entertainer which SRK till then havent had done much of. But its second half felt a bit borrowed from 80s 90s kind of movies where he becomes a 'messiah'. But I think you are right about Dilwale and Zero where the makers tried to cater to his image. But Zero brought something new to his character. Dilwale was a complete crap. Speaking about Dunki, its just a 4mnths old movie. Let it sync in a bit. Its a movie made with a noble cause just like Swades and has a broader question about the borders vs humanity (what is important?). Such movies take some time to find their groove and have a longer shelf life. And once they resonate - it is for lifetime. The good example of this is Swades. It was too compared with Lagaan for its entertainment quotient but now people consider it to be Ashutosh Gowariker's best work.
And thinking about SRK directing these movies is a bit childish. It is possible that the director gets overwhelmed by the star's romantic or the anti hero persona and tries to script his character in a way. But directing and controlling the industry heavy weights like Imtiaz Ali and Raju Hirani is kind of a joke. And doing this after the series of average performers and after the 4 years break is impossible. If that was the case then he would have directed Jawaan as well because Atlee is fairly new to the industry. But he didnt overpowered Atlee and that special Atlee 'element' was very much present in the movie.

Hello sir i watched all your videos and deeply appreciate your understanding about cinema .. sir basically i think you just forgot one of the most important flaw of dunki that is the "dunki suffering". Dunki will be more relatble and feel good if we experience a deep suffering journey of dunki and not just 5 min of mediocre journey.. hirani should make it more hard through some emotional and difficult scene ..as the film title "dunki" it should be more focused on deep emotional full of hardship journey from india to England but instead of this we got whole journey in 5 min songs. Just think about this flaw and please reply to me. All your noticed flaws are exceptional.❤

Like Tarantino said its not necessary that a director will become better with every movie. On the contrary he will become outdated (like musicians, athletes) biggest examples are RGV and hirani . Thats why legend chooses to direct only 10 films

Neeraj Vora was just a translator of Priyan, he even did wonders with Manisha Korde and Jay Master(other dialogue writers). Priyadarshan can do a lot without Vora and by the way, Neeraj Vora gave Rohit Shetty the idea of blind couple in Golmaal which was actually inspired from Priyadarshan's Kakkakuyil.

Extremely well analyzed bro. The main difference was that in the first 4 films the protagonist challenged the system in one way or the other but in a feel good manner. And that resonated with the audience. Somewhat similar to how Amitabh's character challenged the system as angry young man in the 70s. The last 2 films the protagonist was a victim . He was not inspirational.

the most messed up i felt was when they didnt give enough pause during VICKY KAUSHAL death scene.

The title of this video is so accurate AF! like I was literally thinking the same exact question before sleeping every day (Ever since I witnessed the horrors of dunki in theatres).

because raj hirani used to make films on real society problems with good logic whereas dunki was illogical for so many people as they shown dunki this story could have been better showing real stories but as we know doing dunki is like a second name of death for me and for many other people, so to make this movie entertaining they just skipped that part and they created too much roar ovet other things like not finding jobs or getting jobs but no respect or money and id proofs, living which they ve shown us but they never showed us with details , in the end they could give us some solutions of these kind of problems yeah they tried to solve when "srk doesnt accept that he is not fear from his own country "india" then they deport him but taaapse and other people with him stay there but that wasnt as much impactful as raj's other films like 3 idiots,pk where he had one agenda to solve the problem, like in 3 idiots it was "listen to your heart ,to parents also" whereas pk had "firki le raha koi,hum kon hote hain dunia chlane wale ", so these kind of agendas ...left us thinking about these problems .
if we see in a buisness tactik this film was a commercial film nothing to do with reality of real dunki

Raju Hirani's humour had already taken a dip in sanju. Like the sequence where he goes to ask for liquor from his gf's father looked like HouseFul type comedy scene .

I think hirani want to do some experiments on audience taste that will the audience enjoy this type of movies . After people don't like it so for sure hirani make his films like his older films in future .

True man, as cancer se koi itna sudden thodi na marta hai, ki baitha or marr gya, na wo koi itni budhiya thi jiski sudden cardiac arrest se death ho gayi.
The truth is, it didn't even matter 1% whether she lived or died. Koi sympathy hi nahi thi us character ke sath, right from the start. Like Chinki in Munnabhai or Jhanvi in Lage raho.

Thank you for doing this, and this is a very good analysis. Munnabhai MBBS was the reason I got interested in films, and eventually ending up wanting to be a filmmaker. But the day I watched Dunki, it was heart-breaking to see your hero fail so hard. Apart from Hirani, I also feel that this film is a part of the same series that Fan, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Dilwale, Raees, and Zero are a part of - films where SRK as a star ended up overpowering the film, and probably even the director. Would love to see you explore this in an essay someday!
I too think that Dunky is made as an SRK film and not as an RKH film...I didn't expect this to happen with RKH.
I partially agree with you. Because Fan was a brilliant movie which was out of the mould which SRK has ever done. JHMS was also not the usual SRK movie but also not too different as Imtiaz Ali is usually known for. It was that Imtiaz Ali wanted to make a simple to understand movie and not a intellectual one like Tamasha or Rockstar, etc. Raees was a massy entertainer which SRK till then havent had done much of. But its second half felt a bit borrowed from 80s 90s kind of movies where he becomes a 'messiah'.
But I think you are right about Dilwale and Zero where the makers tried to cater to his image. But Zero brought something new to his character. Dilwale was a complete crap.
Speaking about Dunki, its just a 4mnths old movie. Let it sync in a bit. Its a movie made with a noble cause just like Swades and has a broader question about the borders vs humanity (what is important?). Such movies take some time to find their groove and have a longer shelf life. And once they resonate - it is for lifetime. The good example of this is Swades. It was too compared with Lagaan for its entertainment quotient but now people consider it to be Ashutosh Gowariker's best work.
And thinking about SRK directing these movies is a bit childish. It is possible that the director gets overwhelmed by the star's romantic or the anti hero persona and tries to script his character in a way. But directing and controlling the industry heavy weights like Imtiaz Ali and Raju Hirani is kind of a joke. And doing this after the series of average performers and after the 4 years break is impossible. If that was the case then he would have directed Jawaan as well because Atlee is fairly new to the industry. But he didnt overpowered Atlee and that special Atlee 'element' was very much present in the movie.
Bhai wo Kohinoor wali story bhot sahi hai kisi indian animation studio ke saath milkar direct kar lo indian anime bhi ban jayega aur aapka film debut bhi ^^

Hello sir i watched all your videos and deeply appreciate your understanding about cinema .. sir basically i think you just forgot one of the most important flaw of dunki that is the "dunki suffering". Dunki will be more relatble and feel good if we experience a deep suffering journey of dunki and not just 5 min of mediocre journey.. hirani should make it more hard through some emotional and difficult scene ..as the film title "dunki" it should be more focused on deep emotional full of hardship journey from india to England but instead of this we got whole journey in 5 min songs. Just think about this flaw and please reply to me. All your noticed flaws are exceptional.❤

Neeraj Vora was just a translator of Priyan, he even did wonders with Manisha Korde and Jay Master(other dialogue writers).
Priyadarshan can do a lot without Vora and by the way, Neeraj Vora gave Rohit Shetty the idea of blind couple in Golmaal which was actually inspired from Priyadarshan's Kakkakuyil.

Salaar mei ek proper worldbuilding aur mass elevation scenes the jinko dekhne mei maza aa rha tha ( bhale hi prabhas ne expression nhi diye the pr uski body aur personality action scenes mei bahut sahi lag rhi thi ) aur poori movie ke experience mei aadmi entertain ho rha tha

@MrinmayChakravarty-jf4nr The problem with Salaar Part 1 was too many slow motions, build-up sequences and loud dialogues I think 2nd half was much better after Prithviraj's entry and specially climax Hopefully he focuses more in drama and conflict in upcoming sequel

Extremely well analyzed bro. The main difference was that in the first 4 films the protagonist challenged the system in one way or the other but in a feel good manner. And that resonated with the audience. Somewhat similar to how Amitabh's character challenged the system as angry young man in the 70s. The last 2 films the protagonist was a victim . He was not inspirational.
