- Let me show you around this 2017 Volvo FM 460 6x2 (Euro 6) with it's 12.8 litre straight six cylinder diesel engine.
This truck is for sale at T. Nolan & Sons Castleisland Co. Kerry IRL, and has as only covered 125,000 km since new. It features a manual 12 speed gearbox, 3 over 3 splitter with range change and crawler.

Our national dairy company uses the 8-wheeler version of the FM 540 with the dual clutch box. Great trucks. Leave other, more powerful trucks for dead on the hills. The DC box is the ticket.

i remember my father had a f12 1985 model 385 hp and the gearbox was 3+3 and the horsepower was more than enough. the FM is a very decent truck

they use an exhaust brake not an engine or Jake brake so they are a lot quieter. But an exhaust brake (normally rated for 80-85% of engine power) will not pull you up like a jake brake (rated for approx 105 or so percent of engine power). I much prefer the sound of a good jake brake any day.

It does look like a very comfortable truck.
That's one of my favorite trucks.the reason is simple.that 1st and 2nd generation of the FM are still operating in Indonesia.The 3rd and 4th generations are not entered into my country due to my bizarre trade regulation
The Volvos are great trucks. (I work for Volvo though so there is a bit of bias) very rare to find a manual version 4 though. Only ever seen a few in the dealer. It's due for replacement soon so when you can get your hands on a brand new FM when they come out. It would be nice too see the truck from your perspective.

In these times it's nice to see some real life activity. Also be aware that Volvo has gas trucks as well, using LNG and on a diesel engine using the Westport solution. Most other gas trucks have spark plug engines. So if you get the opportunity to try both variants at the same time it would be great.

I tell ya it’s a plain truck nothing fancy but I like that truck for some reason. I’d like to have it hooked to a coal trailer and see how it would handle the mountains of Eastern Kentucky here in the states. Does it have a Jacob brake or is it an actual exhaust brake or does it have both
It's a plain jane bread and butter truck over in the UK - it gives you everything you need without the bells and whistles. It has the VEB on it I think..(Volvo Engine Brake) which I think does the same as what you call a 'jacobs' brake. Only problem some might see is that this is the 'low cab' version - over here we like our trucks high, not low, so we can see what's coming long ahead and be safer away from traffic

The FM looks so lame compared to the FH, they look good as a tipper or any riggid, but as a tractor, you may as well get a T range in my opinion

It's a retarder - that's what they're called in Europe - it's an engine brake
Its more like the same with jacobs + exhaust brake, this one got no retarder
How do you turn off the panic alarm?
So shame volvo wont produce these kinds of truck with that new stupid model. These truck models are my dreams. I've always wanted to drive that old volvo.
To be honest, trunking 2017 trucks where i work have about 600k kilometers, so 100k is like new
