The "Nathan" character has mockery speaking through him. Mockery is one of the dark kingdom's favorite little tricks. The person doing the mocking goes deaf for anything remotely serious. I believe what works with mockery is either kindly dismiss the person and move forward or have a light heart about it and engage them with something of their interest. In my experience, mocking comes up as a barrier to pain; when we want to deflect from harsh truth or certain realities then mockery can take its place. It's a counterfeit to laughter and joy.
