No more fake shit about caring about things that barely hurt; we are now facing down the gunbarrel of ACTUAL CRISES. You're going to need Republicans to not turn traitor like Trump. It’s wild how Brian Kemp became the face of Republican moderation entirely against his will by becoming the face of “Republicans who didn’t support the Big Lie” when he didn’t fake a Trump win in his state
Something worth remembering is that the polls focus on "likely" voters, which generally discounts the younger vote but they've been a lot more active since things like Roe v Wade and the changing climate actually starting to affect things
@Cassandra Mel I'm not from the US, but I follow the elections quite closely, because I'm not dumb enough to think they don't have an impact on the rest of the world. Most I've heard from DeSantis is how he said americans were apparently the first to consider banning slavery, and his StopWoke act that got banned by the court. One dumb thing to say, and pandering to the anti-woke crowd does seem pretty Trump-ish to me indeed. I think his main "strength" is that he doesn't run his mouth quite as much as Trump does.
Do not give it up, this channel will definitely grow, the quality is higher and bias lower compared to the mainstream media. There is a demand for this channel.
With all due respect, DeSantis is NOT a moderate Republican. He is a Trumpist that appeals to Trump's base. He is just less corse and so is more appealing to more conventional-but not necessarily moderate-Republicans; and Trump resents a credible rival that can steal his limelight and power with his base.

However, keep in mind that the vote turnout was significantly down in 2022 in Florida versus 2018 when DeSantis faced Andrew Gillum. Charlie Crist was not as popular or as imposing as Gillum (although Crist received more votes than he did in 2014 when he lost to Rick Scott), so that also made it difficult for Democrats to pull off the upset.
The local newspapers are reporting that more people are voting for one party ticket on the ballot. Let me clarify: you could vote for the Democrat for Congress and the GOP candidate for Senate by checking off each candidate. You can also vote for all Democrats or all GOP by checking one box instead. This means fewer people are making individual choices for each race and just becoming one entrenched side of the divide.
@@palmercolson7037 I personally split my vote more when it comes to ballot propositions. The kind of candidates I would cross party lines for are not common anymore.
I wouldnt say Desantis or Kemp are moderates, but they are as time goes on less affiliated with Trump. Most former Trump supporters would happily vote for Desantis, they see him as Trump but without the baggage (more articulate, younger, doesnt alienate suburban/women voters, doesnt motivate Dems to run to the polls to stop him from winning)
A lot of people are focused on the result and while important, the trends are what is important. Reps might still win but not by as much as predicted and certainly not following the trends of the previous elections. There was no Red Wave and it can be seen as a slowing of trends or even a reversal of popularity. Reps tend to do better when the economy is down but the fact that the margins are so tight in an environment that should honestly favor them is probably worrying to some.
I don't think it would be right to characterize DeSantis as more moderate. On policy he is actually further to the right then Trump, his rhetorical style though is less antagonistic than Trump.
Question: you say that the economy is doing dreadfully. I heard more than one economist say that on most measures the economy is doing well. Inflation, that is a problem...but other aspects, no. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the Republicans have persuaded many voters that inflation IS the economy.
DeSantis isn't a moderate by any standard he's very much a trumpist despite trump turning on him his battle against Disney over being "woke" him being firmly in the culture war camp and putting in no restrictions during covid cause he didn't see it as being that serious show that

DeSantis is NOT a moderate. I would stop calling him such. Sure, he's a little less extreme than Trump but that's because he doesn't say everything that comes to find without a filter. DeSantis is still very much in the far-right.
Just for future reference, in the U.S. Zeldins loss in NY is actually seen as a republican victory, NY is historically democratic by large margins so to get the race within 5 is what we call a moral and coattails victory, him performing so well likely lead Republicans to victory following his coattails in 2 house races which with how slim the majority will be is a lot.

Moderates aren't Centrists; we're two different groups of people. There are moderate lefties and moderate righties and then there are us centrists who are done with wingcuckery altogether.
“Moderate” in the Republican Party at this point just means “doesn’t court the most insane sound bites you’ve ever heard”
@@perdhapley4809 I mean, I guess from a hardliner lefty's point of view that'd make some sense, but everyone else in society would strongly prefer if you would leave the toxicity out of politics.
Toxicity became an existential threat with Trump. Knock it off.
@@Ryanowning Recognizing the toxicity and extremism of the MAGA crowd is not itself toxic.
@@tomasroque3338 The left aren't leaving shit at ONLY recognizing it.

How much do I love tldr us? It's literally the first and only channel I've pressed the bell icon for
Keep doing this channel. We US fans need you.
The 2002 midterms were directly after 9/11 and the rally round the flag effect was huge. I think that makes this mid-term even more extraordinary.
Yep the Republican Party is dead at the national stage. Some states will stay solidly red but most of the purple will likely go blue
Classic example of expectations management
The correct abbreviation for Nevada is NV. NE is for Nebraska.
It's always nice to have an outside perspective on the clusterfuck that is American federal politics.
Overall good explainer, but Densantis is nowhere near a moderate. He lives by being inflammatory.
(he's only "moderate" in the sense that he doesn't deny election results)
Yup! It's s bizarre how skewed towards extremes our politics have become, I mean by today's standards Regan would be too moderate for most Republicans! Geez.
He's significantly more moderate than that. Look, I get that you don't like Republicans, but like or not half of Americans are Republican and we have GENUINE issues now. No more fake shit about caring about things that barely hurt; we are now facing down the gunbarrel of ACTUAL CRISES. You're going to need Republicans to not turn traitor like Trump. You're going to need DeSantis.
It’s wild how Brian Kemp became the face of Republican moderation entirely against his will by becoming the face of “Republicans who didn’t support the Big Lie” when he didn’t fake a Trump win in his state
@@perdhapley4809 Supporting moderates and not being toxic is the How To to defeat Trump's politics permamently.
Do not get rid of this channel at all. This is my American news
I really hope this channel stays alive for the amazing content even of the viewership is low
Um, DeSantis isn’t a “moderate”. He is an extremist too, just not a Trump-loving extremist.
Calling Ron DeSantis a moderate republican is just hilarious.
Dudes a clown
Something worth remembering is that the polls focus on "likely" voters, which generally discounts the younger vote but they've been a lot more active since things like Roe v Wade and the changing climate actually starting to affect things
Good report! Better than any MSM outlet out there
I would hardly call Ron Desantis ‘’Moderate’’ but I guess your point still stands
Commenting to give you guys some more engagement. Please keep this channel around
As others have said in this comment section, I'm not sure DeSantis could be considered a moderate.
@Cassandra Mel Do you think he could beat Trump at his own game? He is more conservative than him and doesn't carry his baggage
@@user-op8fg3ny3j this didnt age well
Do not give it up, this channel will definitely grow, the quality is higher and bias lower compared to the mainstream media.
We love the TLDR News US channel. For us Americans, we see this as an objective and concise way to consume national news coverage. And even non-Americans can consume this channel's videos and walk away with more than they would from established media conglomerates.

I don’t think DeSantis is a moderate, but he’s definitely not as insane as Trump
Yo trump isn’t insane
@@ApostateAbdul yes he is
It's funny you think Trump is insane, what do you call what's goin on right NOW? Things weren't expensive as holy hell under Trump. We didn't have inflation, and we had cheap gas. I do enjoy this channel and previously watched it much more than I do now. I think your topics back in 2020 were a lot more engaging than they have been recently. Did he just call Ron DeSantis supporters moderate...?
Desantis is NOT a moderate in any way. He's trying to be the next Trump.

DeSantis is Trump if Trump weren’t a complete moron.

As an American, I do hope you keep this channel alive even though your analysis isn’t always correct.
For instance, Oz is considered a left-leaning Republican (despite being backed by Trump) and DeSantis is considered to be on the right of Trump-with most considering him “Polished Trump”.
Excuse me, how exactly is DeSantis moderate?
The fact that desantis is considered as a moderate by news outlets shows how much we moved to the right
Exactly
@@masterman1266 In the US both parties have been moving further to the left and right. It's not one-sided.
@@baronvonjo1929 yeah, it's all extremes. This entire system promotes extremism.
@@baronvonjo1929 people are moving appart and more extreme ... but I wouldn't say strictly further to left and right since politics are not one dimensional and in some ways even democrats are to the right (everything in the US is to the right compared to europe for example :D ) and in other ways Trump is for example a protectionist and that is a left wing policy ... people are more moving appart in the socialy conservative/progresive axis but overal left/right is more complicated I'd say

1:54 - Nevada is NV, not NE.
Polling can't be accurate when large swaths of Gen X and younger don't answer their phones. Oh, and DeSantis is not a moderate.
Just wanted to point out, NE is Nebraska, NV is Nevada.
I would hardly call de Santos moderate
Desantis isn’t a moderate. He’s just as radical as Trump. He just isn’t also a traitor.
I believe the number of true swing voters has shrunk drastically in this polarized age. Subscribed, keep up the good work!
Keep this channel going! What ACTUAL US news should be like
This right here is my dream.
DeSantis is not a moderate. Just ask the migrants he sent to Martha's Vineyard
Please keep theUS channel alive. I’m an EU citizen working/living in the US. This is probably my favorite source of news for US.
I don't think it would be right to characterize DeSantis as more moderate. On policy he is actually further to the right then Trump, his rhetorical style though is less antagonistic than Trump.
Calling Ron DeSantis a moderate is the bad part of this video.
I like getting a run down of American politics by foreigners. To me it seems to eliminate bias in your reporting. Keep the channel alive!
It also seems to be less sensationalist
Hate to burst your bubble but foreigners can still be bias.
I don't want to live in an america where desantis is considered a "moderate"
Question: you say that the economy is doing dreadfully. I heard more than one economist say that on most measures the economy is doing well. Inflation, that is a problem...but other aspects, no. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the Republicans have persuaded many voters that inflation IS the economy.
Please keep this going, it’s so informative!
DeSantis isn't a moderate by any standard he's very much a trumpist despite trump turning on him his battle against Disney over being "woke" him being firmly in the culture war camp and putting in no restrictions during covid cause he didn't see it as being that serious show that
I'de say he's even more extreme than trump, and also capable which makes him more dangerous for the country than trump ever was.
As a centrist? WTF are you talking about? His policies aren't as right-wing as Trump's. Granted he's not super far from them either, but he's far closer to what Republicans have always been.
if one of your arguments is because he's in "culture war" then it will make democrats extremist.
That fact there are people who think the "economy" with worth more the their and others freedom is sickening
Economy is freedom. You wouldn't have schools, social services, food without it. Financial freedom is a freedom that Is worth being worried about.
@@maxican5286 No its not, until you remove or re-worked Capitalism, Social-Political Freedom is the only freedom you have. Nevada is NV; Nebraska is NE.
Haha I'm glad I wasn't the only one to catch that!
It's really inaccurate to cast DeSantis as a moderate. He's basically the same as Trump but more publically presentable.
American here: This is REALLY bad news for the republicans. They need people to stay home to win, and if they can't do that in a midterm year, they certainly will not be able to do it in 2024 when excitement will be sky high.
Wow, what a twist. It's almost like poeple finally realized that a bad president is still better than a complete lunatic.
DeSantis is NOT moderate by any means. They're just as extreme! Why take part in normalizing extreme views just because they oppose Trump?
On what planet is DeSantis a moderate? He's as extremist as Trump, but is more tactical about it.
DeSantis is even more extreme than Trump

7:11 Zeldin is quite moderate for National Standards
and he did extremelly well considering how "blue" New York generally is

Calling Desantis a moderate is... certainly a take
He clearly stated, "more moderate" not just "moderate."
Hearing it legitimately almost made me spit out my drink.
Is he a moderate on the whole political spectrum? Obviously not.
But it's all relative. The foam-at-the-mouth qanon proto-fascist Trumpist part of the party makes people like Pence and DeSantis look sane and comparatively "moderate".
It's a low bar, but these days we have to be happy about republicans who don't want to storm the capital with a mob.

I would not call DeSantis "moderate." He reads as a competent Trump given what he's doing with LGBTQ and immigrants in Florida.
DeSantis is NOT a moderate. I would stop calling him such. Sure, he's a little less extreme than Trump but that's because he doesn't say everything that comes to find without a filter. DeSantis is still very much in the far-right.
Hey thanks for the break down love your news guys!!!
Yep, New York is a state where Republicans have overperformed in the House.
Anyone remember Death Note, where (spoilers) halfway through the main antagonist dies, so they replace him with two characters that each have one of his main character traits? I feel like that's going on with Trump now, where he's being replaced by Elon and DeSantis.

To say Desantis is more or less extreme than Trump is naive. Desantis did win his governorship thanks to Trump himself and he has proven to be very Conservative on many issues.
