I would really like to see how pancreatic and other cancers correlate with golfers.. I don't think they spray em more than twice a year but there is no doubt these chems are bad newz. They pre-emerge with a 1-2 year half life on many of them. I am always amazed to see anyone dumb enough to fish or go diving for golf balls. You never know though these chems must just saturate down into the ground below else how would the damnb turtles even survive. I once saw our greens keeper prepping the spray tanker. it was probably a 20 or 40,000gal truck who knows. He instructed everyone to leave the area as he put on a space suit and loaded up basically a half cup of concentrate to go pour in it. Walking like he was handling nitro glycerin..

I work in the lawn care industry and I can tell you that roundup is the last thing we use and usually it’s for dalisgrass only since msma was pulled for commercial use. We have to constantly rotate the products we use to avoid resistant strains of weeds. One thing that keeps coming up in our industry is the roundup ready turf grass that will be coming out soon that will be able to resist a blanket spray of roundup with no damage. Every landscape and lawn care company will push this and the amount of roundup being used will skyrocket.

As a water well driller it depends on the soil in the area, to keep chemicals from reaching the drinking water. In a lot of cases across the country with rock formations is when you will have the possibility of contamination. There are more and more regulations to help stop this from happening.

This is the first I have finally heard anyone mention of the chemicals that roundup replaced that were really dangerous. Second, it isn't "Monsanto's" glyphosate because Monsanto was acquired by Bayer in 2016, and therefore no longer exists.
Third, saying that we shouldn't use a chemical because the pest it's designed to combat will slowly adapt is like saying we should ban antibiotics because of antibiotic resistance.

Legit, as a farmer/farm manager and former commercial applicator, glyphosate barely kills weeds. In 1996 when it was introduced into crop genetics it worked so well that guys misused it and put very low rates on to save cost. There is a recommended level to use, ounces per acre, and guys would use fractions of that. Couple that with spraying "off label" meaning that guys let weeds get to big and then try to kill them. The labels say you can only spray so many total ounces a year, also they recommend that the tallest a weed could be is like 6" or something similar to a beer can. Most weeds will be 2-3 feet tall before they get sprayed. As an ag industry we screwed ourselves.
People that don't commonly use it bring up agent orange as a scare word I feel when it comes to 2,4-D. Just remember as john q public living in town, if you spray your dandelions or have a lawn service come out your just blasting it everywhere. Add in to golf courses and their overuse in the past of 2,4-D and Dicamba to control weeds in the grass. As a spot treatment it is always over applied just like when you fertilize your lawn. In farming we use precision equipment to accurately apply and monitor an exact rate per acre. However, that was not always the case due to the lack of technology of the past but I just don't want everyone pinning this on farmers. As with anything there's 2 ways to frame it or viewpoints to look at it from. I can speak to the fact that the generations before me have left us with a potential weed mess that will lead to tillage becoming more important again.

He doesn’t mention the EPA labels which is on every single pesticide product. So when he mentions you can spray all the round-up to kill weeds is a lie because there are approved maximum use rates that you can apply in a year. It’s not like I’m applying 100 gallons of roundup on an acre of corn to kill weeds throughout the growing season.
If people say well farmers don’t follow the labels, there are 3 main reasons why they farmers always follow the label which is:
      1. It’s against the law which results in stiff fines/punishments
      2. For people who say well they don’t care about getting caught. The max use rate is also for the crop as well, if you spray more than the max usage rate of a herbicide it’ll damage/hurt the crop therefore decrease yield/production/income
      3. Then if there are people who still think farmers don’t care they will kill the weeds at all cost, farmers will use tillage equipment to destroy weeds/crops if they’re that determined mainly because it is more effective and cost wayyyy cheaper.
I’m not defending farmers for building up the weed resistance, it just wasn’t known 20 years ago this is what would happen. The awareness is a lot better now, farmers are switching up their traits and active ingredients to prevent resistance again.
Plus this interview makes it seem like the resistant weeds is something new, farmers haven’t been using roundup for the last 10 years like it portrays. It’s strictly used as a grass killer because it doesn’t touch a broadleaf.

The amount of unwarranted alarm hear is astounding. Farmers have known about round up resistant weeds for decades now. There have been weeds that were resistant/immune to it from the beginning.

For about 5 seasons I’d wear a car wash mitt and dip it into a bucketful of Roundup and “paint” Johnson grass before it went to seed in order to keep a clean pasture. It would take me a couple weeks, all day long, to finish 10 acres. This was about 22 years ago and I’ve not gotten cancer, yet.

I think most of the damage comes from what it does to our gut microbiom. It doesn't actually effect us that much but the health problems come from the damage it does. So, you have to be drinking or eating it. I dunno if it is toxic on the skin.

Colin Thomson I’m 52 years old and have a 7 year old son who has autism. I used to work with Dursban a lot too which was used for termiting homes. I’m also a Gulf War Vet and an Iraq Vet, US Army 1988-2006. I’ve no idea which caused the autism in my son or if any of it did at all. All of humankind is subjected to some type of man made chemical every day of their lives anymore. I once saw a study on Teflon and how every human on earth has it in their system. Same story with insecticides too - the system is set up to promote overuse of chemicals for profit until resistance occurs and you need a new chemical. Could be this system arose spontaneously, but I suspect the CEOs know what they are doing. We have the scientific background to use pest controls effectively (resistance management in BT cotton for example) to extend their use, but profit rules all.

Figure out why Disney World and other theme parks are in the middle of a swamp and have zero mosquito bites during hours. You know there are frequencies that certain bugs cant stand? Why were we spraying chemicals to begin with if a speaker playing a specific frequency could replace it? Everything goes a bit deeper then the level you thought was the deep level.

Idgaf about what you read because the fact still remains. In the immediate area where you push your stroller around and get on rides they are using sound frequencies to shoo away bugs. The real question would be why don't we do that on our crops as well as opposed to giving me a useless lecture about the whole of Disney's pest control program? I'm sorry but id rather take my chances eating food that was blasted by SOUND as opposed to food the was blasted by CHEMICALS. Want to spray chemicals out there in that field near the crops fine, but spraying them directly on the food we ingest is idiotic. But I'm sure you read some pamphlet that tells you those chemicals are organic and good for you lol. Brother we are on totally different wave lengths.
