SAUCONY TRIUMPH 21 REVIEW - THE LIGHTEST MAX CUSHION SHOE IN 2023? - EDDBUD
An initial review of the new SAUCONY TRIUMPH 21, a brand new version of the super cushioned rotation shoe for longer distances, PWRRUN+ in the midsole and insole, this time with a much more breathable design and better fitting upper.
A max cushioned shoe with 44mm of stack in my uk 11 / us 12 makes for a great shoe for those longer training runs. Some super grip on the improved outsole too.
This is a shoe sent to me from SAUCONY for review, but they are not paying me to making this video nor will they be watching my video or vetting my views before my valued viewers get to see it.
I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial runs.

I may have stocked up on some 17s back in the day, on sale of course. Maybe still putting miles on a pair today! Crazy durable outsole and yeah, was super cush. Loved them for long winter runs. Will be interesting when I finally upgrade. At least 500 miles to go!

I fondly remember the 17. Bought it just before the 2020 lockdown. My daughter helped me make that video and it’s good to remember where I’ve come from and how I got here. Thanks for watching 👍🏼👊

Great review Ed and glad you finally got round to the Triumph which really has evolved in the last 2 models. I’ve got 400 miles in my 19’s and still tons left in them, about 200 in my first pair of 20’s ( including Chicago marathon) and just picked up another discounted pair for stock. For me the Triumph is as close as I’m going to get to the perfect running shoe. The 21 doesn’t look to have enough updates to warrant a purchase tho loved the colourway of yours. Great work thanks. 👍

This is the first review of Triumph 21 that I've seen -- good job being in front of the pack! I just got my Triumph 20 at 50% off from Running Warehouse last week. Tried them on for the first time yesterday and then wore it for a road/trail half marathon today. I enjoyed the ride, so I decided to buy another Saucony right after the race (Tempus this time) 😇

Really like the Tempus, but I can see how it might be marmite. It's definitely a support shoe intended to go faster in, rather than a cushioned one. I like it because it is relatively lightweight.

I love my triumph 20, such a great shoe. Long runs feel like popping to the shops really, nice pacing as well.
The 21 looks great, in that color as well. It’s weird they got rid of the elastic pull tab that hides away when not in use on the 20, in favor of that traditional one on the 21. I’m not using it, but It’s a better implementation over this new one I think.

I also used the Triumph 17 and absolutely loved it. so I purchased the Triumph 20. and I was disappointed because of feeling like burn in the left forfoot (which I had also in the speed 2 but in a way smaller amount). Might have been a reaction of sock and insole material... so I'm now very sceptic on more Saucony purchases...

Hi ed, thanks for the review! Once you've reached the 100 miled, please give us a 3 way shoot out between this, magnify and nimbus. I find the triumph 20 to be a very lively shoe, instead of a recovery day shoe, can't help but run fast in the shoe. 😂

I LOVE my Triumph 20, especially since the change from the 19, which i also have, was quite significant. I think it's a criminally underrated shoe that can do easy days and pick up the pace a bit too. Soft, responsive with appropriate padding but not too much. 21 seems to be a nice upgrade but not as significant as the one from the previous generation.

Just come back to this video after my first run in my Speed 4s Ed. Strange I know, but after last nights run I feel the shoes are going to fill each other’s roles for me. I found the speed 4s a bit too flexible and found I had to really literally keep my foot down to sustain a decent pace. I have been spoilt recently as I have been using Superblasts for my easy and moderate runs, I find if you back off in them you still keep a decent pace, but the speed 4s lose any momentum really quickly.
I do think I need to run in ‘not so fast’ shoes in my training a bit more I was hoping the Speed 4s could help my Takumi sen 8s in the faster tempo zone, but they aren’t even anywhere near capable of the same speeds, I think they are going to drop even below the Triumph 21s for easier runs and not even for long runs.

Hey had a question brother. With the Triumph 20, I had a lot of heel instability, especially on the right foot - ended up rolling my ankle and I ended up donating the shoe. I wanted to like it but I could not deal with the issue, which I found strange because I'm usually alright with neutral shoes. Anyway, with the Triumph 21, are there changes in the heel area? If not, I will probably look into a different Saucony model. I've heard the Saucony Tempus is basically a more stable version of the triumph and I've heard a lot of good things. Could you let me know what you think? Thanks man.

20C? Well let me tell you….oh right 🤣
I have run in Triumphs since the version before the 17, the Everrun 5? Anyway my fav has been the 19. Just the right amount of Cush and built like a tank. 30k distance is no problem and Can take them up to 4:30 per km easy if not paying attention. I find the 20 a very comfy shoe. Love the bounce. But some may find the softness of the midsole along with the stack in the heel to be a touch unstable.

    • @EDDBUD
      @EDDBUD  ปีที่แล้ว

The balance here is good. I was amazed how light they are considering the stack.

I have been wearing the ISO TRIUMPH for 10 years and they were one of the most comfortable sneakers in my life. After chatting with an expert on the official website, they recommended me to buy the SAUCONY 20, promising the same level of softness and comfort, especially important for me was the level around the heel. However, after I received them, I was disappointed. First of all, there is much less cushioning material around the heel. You can see that there are two seams running in the heel area of the sneakers, these seams rub against the heel quite significantly, they are very hard. Further, when the toe fully steps down, a dent forms on the sneaker around the big toe and due to this dent, the inner material, which is on the side of the big toe, starts to press down. Overall, I don't know about others, but I am disappointed and it's likely I'll have to return the sneakers.

yeah, I don't understand heel loops, either. They really don't help a bit putting shoes on, cuz you're already pushing the heel counter down and the loop can't pull it far enough out of the way...unless you're wearing 3 sizes too big.

I am going to buy the 20 or 21. I used the Triumph 18 in a 50 K mixed surface ultra race last Saturday. About same setup as newer model, but different midsole material. But worked very well. I chose it ahead of Speedgoat and Ultraglide. I do think the Triumph is an alternative for mixed surface ultras where shoes like Endorphine Speed or carbonplates get to unstable.
