Anyone who has caught a manhole in a 580 case backhoe can respect the design of that plow. Starts high to float over lips then gets wide and drags to clear close to the concrete. Awesome job
When the moon is right and the wind is blowing 14 knots from the west I can still feel the pain from the steering wheel to the ribs on my old 580 after smacking that manhole cover
Yeah I’ve hit one so hard in a bobcat that my face popped out the safety windshield right out of the rubber molding and I watched the window slide across the lot as I iced down the egg on my forehead lol didn’t break my face or the windshield so win win
Cool video! I loved watching Rochester's sidewalk plows when I was a kid in the 1950s. Those big blades were so impressive. Glad to see the practice still endures (if there is snow).
Unfortunately, the guy that ran these had an auction in October 2021, so they are all gone. I wish they had filmed more videos last year. Don’t know if someone else bought some and will continue or if most were getting scrapped.
I'm using a 52 Massey Harris 23 to move snow this year in Northern N.B Canada. I've been watching alot of videos to see how the old iron performs and am pretty impressed so far. Ive been using a 2001 xterra but am very excited to start using my Massey.
LMFAO!!! Thats crazy! It's like how you'd plow the sidewalks in Fallout. I feel so spoiled now in a heated cab. I even have a remote for the stereo which is 2 inches away.
When I was a kid growing up in Detroit in the 70’s there were Jeep’s with spinning brushes mounted on the front to clear sidewalks. I’m guessing you couldn’t use plows because the giant elm trees heaved all of the sidewalks.
I always thought this was a joke when I saw the help wanted ads on CL "do you have what it takes to do this", I prefer a heated cab without the risk of being shot LOL
Yes David Miller you are right . The Side walk plow clears most , then it freezes . I scrape what is left with a shovel so it is better for walking , it gets slick . But that is only after I have to shovel the berm that the Sidewalk plow made so I can move out of the Driveway . I live here and love the Sidewalk Plows even when they come while you are shoveling the Approach clogged by the Street Plow . The Tough people stay here and enjoy the snow . The Whiners move out of State and complain about the Weather , Bugs or Hurricanes where ever they wind up ? The Dummies that walk in the street after the walks are plowed are also part of life .
I plow sidewalks in a new Kubota compact. It’s OK, my father has a collection of farmall tractors exactly like this but not narrowed. Where do I sign up? Those guys don’t give a fuck, run up through a whole gear just screaming past houses like WAH. Here you’d be shot at. Lol

Great point! I'm truly impressed how well these work.

I've hit a manhole in a cat 950 loader. Came to a complete stop as I ate windshield. Lol

I can't believe they're still using these old tractors!! Cool!!!
Good to see the old iron still working and not a lawn ornament!!!! AWESOME!!!
That looks like a very fun job to do.
That must be cold !!!! I had an open JD doing snow in winter in Maine and I would be freezing when I came back inside.

Why would you need a heated cab if you got a heat houser?
How does a glass box keep you from getting shot?
This looks so awesome and fun. Just applied to the job! Eager to hear back!
Did you get it ?
The novelty wears off quick.
The night time cowboys of Rochester
That tractor in the video is a Oliver I believe it is a77 gasser I had one and motor has an very common sound
That’s a super 88 the description on the video has all the teactors
Did you design your own blades do you have drawings and I like to put on my tractor
Great Video....id buy one. any for sale? MN

Seriously no cabs in this day and age, not even a shield in front? Pretty cool though, good place for a heated jump suit
Old iron rules!
this is some cool stuff
Love the ollie.
So residents don't have to scoop their own sidewalks?
Nothing like old iron no electronics crap on these
2021😁 Good Rochester New York
How do you get them down to 4ft?
Mount the wheels "dish" facing in and slide them tight to the axle housings. Then saw the axles off flush with the wheel hubs.
Robert Melville wow that is neat I didn't realize you could get those tractors down that narrow. Looks like they push great
Are they contracted with the town to do the side walk and how deep was the snow
Theses plows are contracted to the city.
Snowfall depth from the storm was officially 28". But drifts/banks were often 5 feet and higher.
Thanks for sharing!
They should plow twice when snow starts melt cause folks cant walk on ice or in wet snow. Not safe walk in streets.
Are those city owned or a private contractor? Municipalities seem to need the newest equipment.
Private contractor...
There would be an OHSA work refusal in my neighborhood. No cab, no heater, no rollover protection.
Bad ass setups
Why don't the residents of Rochester clear the snow from the sidewalks in front of their homes like everywhere else in the snow belt?
because thats why you pay property taxes
Cuz they're lazy.

Old Farmall's?
That's how you GET UR DONE !
Looks like something off of road warrior.😆
Like a 195 grain 7mm bullet.
That's awesome! I love the fact that they are putting vintage tractors to use! Are they still planning on using them this year?
2020 Rochester New York all saw logs for people to walk
Now thats cool !.

That’s great thanks
look fun.....
Time to raise taxes, they have these things called "Cabs" now.
Put a cab on it already. That's cruel and unusual punishment .
Watch to see what happens if you leave a trash can in the way.
COOL
Neat!
