@@Hyce777 I have a question, all my Locos are having the Porter sound… driving, whistle etc. i got a full map with tracks that i dont want to loose, but a Mosca sounding like the Porter sucks. Do you think its safe to reinstall the game? Will it keep the safefiles? Would be glad if you could give your opportunity

@@omegafalconoriginal one of my funniest “should’ve checked the brakes” moment was when I was playing with a buddy (I was in front of him heading uphill with a log train while he was following behind me with stake car train) where I stalled on the hill (I was in a Betsy so he hat was kinda expected) and told him that I would drop one of my cars and he (in a Eureka) would grab it on his way up the hill and shove it to the sawmill where I could couple back up to it. I decided that I’d pull the pin first and then set the brakes. So I pull it and “set the brakes” (in reality I hadn’t actually clicked on the brake wheel) and then hopped off expecting it to slow down and meet with my buddy later on. About a minute later I hear a “Oh my god!” And a frantic whistle echoing throughout the valley. You can probably guess what happened next.

See it's not only Hyce's knowledge from working steam, kAN has great questions to bring out the knowledge. Great duo, would be great to see some of the other guys getting involved later on also like mentioned before.
If I may I believe I have a solution to the having two number 1 problems, either use Betsy as just a construction engine, or when you get another engine, put her on display by the Depot so you have the "old" No.1 and the "new" no.1. Then you can just number the next engine 2 and continue from there
Alternative, make a whole new, separate sub railroad and slap Betsy on it (jk)
or just number every engine as number 1

16:50 Hyce, so you are saying that there is a unmanned train heading towards a unfinished track with no one onboard and full throttle. Kan, everything is fine just slap down the end of track buffers and hope for the best
I think it'd be interesting for industries to have optional inputs to increase their efficiency.
Particularly cordwood (for the workers woodfires) and tools (what industry couldn't benefit from new tool deliveries).
It could be a neat way to encourage more mixed loads and revisions to the track layout in the later game (trying to get tools everywhere after that industry is hooked up would give lots of room for optimisation).
I was thinking of a "The next car load of X that you deliver pays $Y extra" quest system to encourage mixed trains.
But your comment made me realize that it would be better if it was a "Industry X needs commodity Y and will pay a $Z bonus (over the usual rate) for it." kind of requests. That would make it worthwhile to park a mixed train with one car of each commodity at every industry, assuming you have that telegraph teleportation system in place.Or if you always have lets say 10 requests going at all times, you could assemble a mixed train and make a trip through all industries with 2, 3 or more active requests.
They have a new choo choo, and adding a Mallet. The Mosca is highly recommend, just swap the tender with the 70's tender and it is fully perfect
I can totally see a Doubleheader with both Mosca & Class 70 Consolidations for hauling big hopper trains from the coal/Iron mine to the Smelter.

The two of you running RO! together is a perfect example of the total being more than the sum of its parts.
I like how around 15:00 when “Kenosha” started playing-and knowing full well your game was going to crash from kAN’s stream-was pretty fitting. Montezoooma took a walk, went cab over boiler, the Porter ran away, and pee went into cups.
I’ll pour another drink to that. 🥃

The fact that the train derails at the end of the song "Smells Like Kenosha" is just so perfect
You two should look into RROx (railroads online extended), it includes flying, fast sprint, teleporting, adjusting cash and xp levels, remotely controlling locos, and it procedurally maps the world as you play, including an adjustable minimap. It's really useful and I honestly can't play the game without it anymore.
As someone who looks constantly at any conveniently placed rail yard in the state of Georgia, there's a metric butt ton of curved yards, especially when you get more towards Atlanta

Regarding unit trains vs manifests in-game, I have set up my network to take advantage of manifests wherever possible. I have two yards, one at the sawmill and one just east of the oil well, and I run a manifest between the two that easily exceeds 20 cars. I even mix logs and cordwood in the same train.
Loving the content and your shenanigans. I've actually worked lightrail and the #1 thing they tell you is DO NOT couple on a curve. They couplers will swing away from eachother, hard. Don't ask how I know XD
Also cordwood, great way to farm quick cash for early game.

Watching you chase Betsy reminded me that(if you didn't already know) if you hit *crouch* WHILE you're running, you run like twice as fast 😂 you're like crouch-sprinting, and it's a big help if you really need to catch something
Kan's sawmill layout breaks my brain, I need to see it in diagram form to really understand it hahahaha
I know this is 4 months old but I think a good idea for a turn around at the saw mill would to have a dual track at the saw mill and ahve switches on both ends to run around the train, but you could also sing with this have a turntable at one end to turn your engine round so it’s facing the right way

Talking about railroad piers, the British had some crazy rail-ship coal staithes for transferring the black stuff into ships.
The double-intro in the beginning threw me through a bigger loop than the entire Colorado Railroad Museum's RoW! @_@
What I've heard with Blue Peter is dat it broke all the rods because the driver tried to brake (after he tried the reverser with mentioned results). I believe it was the Dutchess of Hamilton who had the same thing happen but came out fine because they just waited it out. Dug some grooves but just could continue.
Considering astragon have been helping out for only a short time its added a decent amount of life to a game that was getting a bit stagnant. I'm genuinely excited again, also awesome that you are playing it again.
9:38 sounds like the coal staiths we had in the UK pre-steam railways, like a pier out to the river and you dump the coal down onto the waiting barge.
The way idd make the sawmill is a large bow tie southeastish of it, stubs for the loading 4 cars long, and a triangle pointing along besides the main and its NE heading onto the log unload , plus a runaround loop going behind the SM just connecting up to the main and yard-mainline

speaking of crossovers, i would love to see a 2-way Y switch and a 3-way W looking switch, i think it would definitely add more options to laying tracks
That kink in the rails would be Guilford Rail System approved. Imagine the Downeaster hitting that at 50 mph: cabbage everywhere!

A guy at my train club gave me some USMRR rolling stock and a book of early western railroading. The Montezuma and galloping goose were featured in it

There is shunting space I found to the west of the lumber loading area at the sawmill but you will have to change your approach to the logging camp. Also, the flats area between the sawmill and the logging camp on your existing approach has room.

Wheelslip on a modern (sd40 and newer) engine breaking free does NOT take long to burn some nice groves in the rail. And if you slip bad enough suddenly some track needs a new piece placed in.

wow! that IS the best sawmill trackplan I've seen yet. Cant wait to see the "mosca" the D&RG engine that never was...that the EBT got (IIRC it lasted till VERY late, going to at least one other RR before it was scrapped)

When I did my rebuild of the sawmill I did a second loop the same direction as the loading line but I put it a incline(that was probably totally unrealistic for an engine to climb from a standstill) and had it snake about to get back to my mainline to the logging camp.

I'd think a good way to get that Mixed train would be having all the industries need something from at least two other industries. Also I think weather dynamics would be interesting especially so people could replicate the RGS clown show in '38.
Wish I could show you what I did. I have a loop around the mill and lake with turn-offs and turn-ons to the lumber, depot , and smelter (just added).
You can also place a firewood camp on the other side of you car at the lumber/beams and load car the unload on other side for quick cash. Not saying I did for a start up fund. 😅

1:00:50 exactly what I've been doing for money while I'm in the process of rebuilding my save with the new splines before I get to the Iron mine. Ran a few 24 car beam trains just to sell so I can get a bit more rolling stock and engines.
Lining switches is why I always play with Railroads Online Extended. Plus tracking players and trains
I don’t do reverse loops just do a back in empty and forward out on a full load, to be honest that is faster as it takes too much time to make the loop and more realistic because log camps were temporary infrastructure and the locations move when the trees are gone, therefore minimum money is spent on a line. If track laying had a cost this game would be very different

I still think the end of track devices are really nice on narrow gauge it makes sense to have one or more hehe!
The mechanical knuckle coupler is a perfect example of if it ain't broke dont fix it in its longevity.

Don't know if they're a thing in the US, but in the UK we have tandem turnouts, where the second point is essentially built halfway into the first. Hard to describe but we've one leading into the shed at KSE

we also could use a similar feature like in farm simulator where you are able to "Tab" into your various locos without having to run back to where ever you parked them.
As excited as we are for the Uintah Mallets, we are giddy for the 125s. A Vauclain compound Mikado? It’s our favorite thing combined with a weird thing, it’s awesome.

When you said, that his layout is pretty straightline, I remembered, that kAN named his first RO company "Straightline Rail Co." ^^
And with his friends, he means Kosmo and Dapper ^^ They´re gonna be good helpers in the game ^^ Also, i think you should let Kosmo build rails too, because Dapper is more a driver, than a builder (XD) and Kosmo is really creative, when it comes to making awesome tracklayouts ^^ (you could watch his videos, to get a picture of that)

speaking of deer. on the steam railway I help out on here in the UK we were running downhill though a wide cutting at just a shade under 25mph. I lent out to check the injector was running clean and to sight a signal only to look down and see a deer running right along side us and keeping up 0_o my driver and I couldn't believe it. soon as we left the cutting it darted over the lineside fence off into some woods.
I just got the mosca today and i have to say its very fast and accelerates quickly and it can handle heavy loads. 10/10 highly suggested.
