As a kid I remember running in the starlight parade , as a teenager I remember staying overnight downtown on a city block in anticipation for the rose festival parade with family and friends ( that was a true block party) I have memories of visiting the Saturday market under the burnside bridge I have memory of oaks park and omsi as a kid. 🌺🌿🇺🇸 I too lived in Portland and loved it so much. But the nice people got pushed around by the "progressives" and took the peoples niceness as weakness. Leaders cannot be seen as weak because criminals have now formed MOBS.....AND NO ONE IS SAFE ANYWHERE IN PORTLAND....I moved out last year and hate what's happening there. My old SE neighborhood has clusters of homeless camps and the stores are closing due to crazy high taxes(30k for the corner store who cried to me that she can't make it anymore and is closing), garbage, theft, cracked out people wandering around. You take away the homeless and this looks like my hometown with a population of 4000 people. It wasn't violence or protesting that ruined our town but all can be blamed on "Progress"....meaning, they tore-apart our beautiful quaint park to run a highway right straight thru. Plus, they stuck a Burger King smack in the middle of town.....our town is very small. Add to that our main street is pretty much gone due to the small family stores closing. The malls did that and now all you need is tumble-weed blowing down the street. On any given day you might see three people walking down main street. The above could be said for hundreds of towns in the U.S. Pretty sad, indeed.

We were there in the beginning of last August and it did start looking pretty yucky compared to the years before, but that was you know during the riots in between a cleanup night. Where we were in the hotel we stayed at 9.0 so I was shocked to see all the graffiti and all the nonsense around it. There was this lovely club connected to it that was for private members and a nice little park and homeless people everywhere. I was like wow! I have visited the city since like 2006 and I’ve never seen it look so terrible! Black lives matter those supporting defunding the police got exactly what they wanted a mass exodus of officers saying fuck it we’re done. That is so sad because officers are there to protect and serve and most of them do exactly that! When somebody tries to rob you or kill you you’re going to call 911 for their expertise and assistance but who are they going to call now? where’s the hazmat team’s detectives what is the president doing, nothing! I remember the mayor being pissed off at President Trump for providing the cops with federal aid and other stuff to help with the riots. He was mad! What a dip shit! Joe’s doing nada as usual.

So what's your answer? Let the rioters own the streets? More looting? Fires? Intimidation of ordinary people?
The Mayor of Portland has told his own police force to stand down. When rioters are arrested, the local DA just lets them go within hours so they can be arrested again within the week. Follow Andy Ngo. He posts the names of those arrested. You'll get to know them. All Marxist agitators. They all advocate tearing the system down.

Where i now live this would never be tolerated Texas has aggressive protocols in place and that is why anarchists don't thrive here. God bless Texas!

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I bet there's a lot that doesn't thrive in Texas. Like tolerance, maybe.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." - US Constitution, First Amendment
There seem to be many Trump supporters that think the US was founded on Judeo-Christian principals. My mother-in -law for one. I showed her this text from the Constitution and she was about to burst a blood vessel. The founders were setting up a free country based on pluralism, and that truth just fries the Religious Fascists. I don't get what the big problem is. Getting along with neighbors is a lot more fun than bing scared of them. But I guess Austin, Texas just really bugs some of the people in this thread. Too bad..... I bet those musicians and coffee shop owners and gay clothing shops aren't trying hard to keep other texans from driving pickups with gun racks and such.
But tolerance is a fairly liberal idea. Too bad the Founders were so liberal. But they were.

Nobody want to go there anymore, local businesses are all boarded or permanently closed, and used needles and mentality unstable homeless roam everywhere. It's not a happy and safe city anymore. Not all of us vote in these idiots. Remember, Oregon has more to it than Portland. Living 2 hours south of Portland, I can only sit and watch as this once great and beautiful city are destroyed. Most of the state does not vote as Portland does. However, with the mammoth city that it is, the voters there skew our elections. Sad, certainly, but not the fault of all of Oregon. Portland Voters need to wake the hell up and get these monsters out of our places of leadership at every level.

Jon Achaval? Arrested? For what? The same thing would have happened no matter who was in office. This is a systemic nationwide problem. No simple answers. The Portland Police and the Sheriffs dept are on board with the mayor. People have the right to gather and protest. I know what you are going to say. They do not have the right to loot, vandalize or riot. You are right. I agree. The problem is that there is more than just the protesters downtown. The people that participate and vandalize, number in the dozens to maybe a hundred. The daytime protesters have numbered in the thousands and usually go home long before the BS starts. Most of the arrested have been arrested long after midnight. If you commit a crime you should have to pay the consequences. I agree with that. Lumping all the activities downtown to into one big pile will not solve anything. Many are there for the right reasons and protest peacefully. I see the bigger problem downtown as all of the homeless camps popping up everywhere. The homeless have been here for years but the numbers I see recently are 10 times that. Where are all of them coming from? I was downtown yesterday and I saw at least 3 homeless people sobbing uncontrollably. Two were just standing on the corner crying. One woman in her 50's with a walker with wheels was asking us for help, but she was sobbing so hard we could not understand her. We walked her to the corner where there is a center to deal with homelessness. Things are bad people. Blaming does no good.
