      On a scale of 1 to 10 of things that could go wrong - with 10 being the worst. That wing nut coming loose was about a NEGATIVE 1 MILLION 🤣🤣🤣
      Watching the very direct communication between two experienced brothers focusing on a common goal was fascinating to me. Loved it. Keep up the good work Nick. 👍

    NHRA Stock class racing is THE best racing. Very interesting that the base plate was so effective. I’ll bet that Phil is one intense dude at the track. I had a Bracket car for several years. Loved the competition.

      The air filter base keeps the air straight before it's pulled into the carburetor. The additional air gets the carburetor a better signal, causing a rich condition fixed by going down on the jet size.

    Wonderful show. Thanks for the family history and pictures. Heart warming to watch you and your brother work together in the shop. And, some additional education imparted to us viewers about the headers. I've always been a Mopar man and have owned three 440 magnums a 383 and a 340. Always wanted a 426 HEMI. Back around 1976, Rick Finch the Bass Player for KC & The Sunshine Band bought 2 HEMI's that were for sale in Miami before I could. I met Rick but I never owned one. A 1966 HEMI Charger that belonged to a close friend of mine, and a 1970 HEMI Charger. Best Regards to you both and Keep On Winning!

    Found your channel about a month ago. GREAT STUFF!! This vid is special me.
    Chasing HP and 1/100th is 1/2 the fun.
    From 1967-1976 I raced an I/S '57 chev factory fuelie. Best years of my life. Then the family came along....... that was that. ;( .
    In 1970 I briefly set ET record. What a thrill. NHRA then changed rules and i could no longer use the dealer installed option of a 4 speed. Rules is rules . I changed to I/SA but did not have to much success.
    I will remember those years forever and you channel with your enthusiasm helps. Live chats are great.!

    I built a hemi way back when i was a teen. It took me 3 years to complete, having life commitments i bought every peice pay cheque after pay cheque when there was extra and saved from extra to buy the peices. I had the block gave to me. It had a peice broke on the pan flang where a rod went out. I welded in the three peices, too the block to the high school and durring my night classes i machined the pan flange, and the head serfaces. As well as drilled and treaded bigger bearing bolts and head studs. And the teacher machined cam ends and made caps so i had thrust bearings for end play loss. He als cast my blower box for me. I used a 671 gm blower on it with a 850 cfm carb. Having the school machine shop and teacher help the build was awesome. It began just a broke 1968 426 cast block.

When you hear the John Force stories ect. We all pretty much lived that way. I really like that 70 Hemi Challenger 4-speed convertible, it may have not been born that way but it is an awesome car, you just gotta love a Hemi. Seeing you and Philip working together in the Dyno room discussing what you wanted to try next brought back a lot of fond memories from the 60's, working on engines, and trying to find those elusive few HP that would make the difference at the track. The new stainless steel headers should make a difference on the Dyno, and help get the Hemi the extra HP. I know that the HP & torque numbers were over 600, which is very good for an engine with stock specs. Great job Nick and Phil, I know that you will have a winner when the Hemi is done.

      @@blinkie1523 Thank you blinkie, I think that the only thing hotter than Philip's Hemi is the weather here in Texas, over a 100 F today, and for the rest of the week too.

    I had a friend who built dirt track engines and had an interesting technique. While an engine was running, he leaned his belly on the driver-side valve cover, placed his left hand on the passenger valve cover, turned his left ear towards the timing chain/gear, and looked down the carburetor. With one pull, he could quickly zero in on a problem. I saw him sort out a Hemi drag car that way. In a few seconds, he was able to show the owners that the builder had left break-in springs on the valves. Fortunately, it ran so bad it had not hurt itself on the track. Love your content Nick. My late dad was French Canadien. You remind me of him.

    I watch Nick, and learn something every time. The situation with rusty headers causing a back draft of rust into the cylinders is something I did not know. Yet one more reason to dislike headers 😊

    • @gt-37guy6
      @gt-37guy6 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Low restriction cast iron manifolds, luckily I was able to find Pontiac Ram Air exhaust manifolds for My Tempest, they are very close to header performance, seat perfect onto heads, and better ground clearance. Win, Win, Win!

    • @tedheierman1181
      @tedheierman1181 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maybe another reason to really consider running SS headers!?

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Couldn’t disagree more. Headers ALWAYS make more power, look cool and sound awesome. Just spend the extra $ to get a well made set of ceramic coated headers.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      🤣. Cast iron manifolds rust as much, if not more than any set of headers!

    36:20 - You answered one of the questions I had right there Nick. You said earlier that you couldn’t add lift to the cam but didn’t say you couldn’t change the ramp on the cam and/or add duration. You confirmed here that the cam in the engine has more duration than stock.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you said you are running the original cast iron rockers. Is there anything in the rules that would prevent you from using OE style rockers made from lightweight components like titanium? Lighter valve train components typically allows the engine to rev higher and therefore means more power on the top end.

    • @nickpanaritis4122
      @nickpanaritis4122 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct. As long as the max intake lift is .490, any lobe design is ok in the Stocker class. In many cases they do not allow titanium yet. And now we are allowed to use after market rockers. But we are still running the factory cast iron rockers for now.

    • @michaelraddish7898

    In 1964 on a secret five mile long test track in Texas, Chrysler Corporation had been testing a new version of its hemispherical-head 426 V-8 engine. Word had leaked out that on the strait ways the massive power plant was pushing the the slippery Plymouths and Dodges at unheard of speeds of of over 185 mph, about 20 mph better than the competition was running at super speedways at Daytona.
    The Petty's installed the new engine in their 1964 Belvedere and promptly found out after a few practice laps that the head gasket was leaking. The crew discovered the block wasn't quite big enough to cover the gasket on the cylinder head. They quickly set about heating brass and welding it to make the block fit up with the gasket and cylinder head. Richard Petty went on to win his first Daytona 500 with the only available Hemi to them at the time. Richard Petty later went on to win his first Grand National Championship for the 1964 season with the new Hemi engine.

    HELL YES NICK. BRUCE Springsteen's got it right. When he sang hemi powered cars scream down the boulevard. You need to teach more people about NHRA stock and super stock. 😁👍. People work their asses off for 100 of a second. Those hand made headers will be a work of art. Not like the junk off the shelf headers. And rust in the tubes hurts horsepower to. Good luck and thanks for posting.

    I'm very lucky to have an original 1970 N96 Shaker Challenger 440SixPack 18 splined 4 speed Dana 60 Track Pak car. That one shown by Nic is absolutely gorgeous even if not an original N96 car. BTW. Dodge only made a total of 184 Shaker challengers for 1970.......very rare cars. Around 85 or so left

    David Vizard just had a vid on his channel about unequal length headers. For 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2 V8s he shows you the formula. There's more power than you might think in it. For a Hemi this might be worth trying. He explains why too.
