Ozymandias, Granite State, and Felina. The perfect three-episode arc that ended Breaking Bad so magnificently. We see the fall of Walter White's reign in Ozymandias and then we see him suffering because of that in Granite State and then the show ends with him trying to make what he can right even though he's way past the point of redemption, and then him dying on his own terms in Felina. It's beautifully done.

I only watched Breaking Bad this summer. Almost every day I'd watch two, maybe three episodes, and I absolutely loved it. So satisfying to watch unfold, and just great to see how almost everything had some sort of knock-on effect or was affected by a previous arc. Not sure anyone can pin a single "best" episode, but Ozymandias has got to be in at least the top five. The whole thing was so thoroughly gripping and perfectly encapsulated the highest peaks of this amazing show.

It’s so overwhelmingly empty... as I know there will be no show that will bring me such emotions and thoughts about life, about all that creates us as who we are, about all the consequences we will have over something.
It’s cliche to say this but Breaking Bad is a unreplaceable part of my adulthood as it taught me so so much about life that no teacher can ever do. I recently just rewatched Breaking Bad again and I found this episode to be so incredibly tragic. It's just so well made, that they make everything fall apart in his life from the moment he answers that phone call from Jesse (when he says he's going to burn his money). And then, like this video points out, you can go as far back as the pilot episode and see how those first decisions he made to make meth and practice his lies leads all the way to that moment. Everything was going moderately well for him in a twisted way but it all eventually comes back to bite him in the ass. Furthermore, I found it pretty amazing that when you take a step back and look at all the villians in the show and watching Better Call Saul and see more about the backgrounds of a lot of the characters that Walter White is basically the worse person to grace anyone's lives. He causes everything to fall apart in his warpath for success that he even destroys himself.

I could never hate/blame Walter while watching BB. I watched it all in like a week, and it was not until I was done and watching videos about that I became aware of how I just accepted Walter's rationalisation of his actions and still wanted him to win despite all the horror. It was really a lesson in perspective.

    • @threedeemelodies

but it’s shown how his rationales are feeble excuses for his monstrous actions. no matter what, walter is always wrong. whether its cooking meth in the first place, raping skyler, or killing jane, his rationalization is what destroyed literally every character in that show

He was the best character and he was tortured non stop for the ENTIRE show. He never had a happy ending. Not for a second. Everyone he loved, is dead. I think he might of hanged himself the next day. I fucking cried so hard thinking about Jesse. He was the only character that felt like the most human. He hated kids being killed and he always put others before himself. He was EASILY the best character, and I will fucking fight you if you say otherwise. He deserved so much better.

People are so divided on The Last Jedi right now, but I think this video essay highlights some of the best work he did for Star Wars brought from what he did on Breaking Bad. Rian knows how to convey theme, explore it thoroughly, and have us see where it takes the characters. As a result, we got a movie I don't think anyone expected to be part of the Star Wars mythos, and whether you liked it or not, I think it's one of the most impressive mainstream movies in recent years.

i remeber watching the episode for the first time and thinking "wow, that was the most amazing episode ive ever seen" and i was so obsessed with it for days on end. I was very happy to see that when i googled it, many others agreed with me about it being the best episode of this show, and one of the best television show episodes ever

I watched Breaking Bad for the first time last year, and when I did I saved the last 3 episodes to watch in one sitting. I'm really glad I did because together they make up one big 3-part finale. You have Ozymandias (great observations btw, Nerdwriter), which may as well be the show's true finale since the consequences of Walt's actions play out in the present moment, Granite State which serves as an interlude to the last episode where those consequences really sink into Walt and he makes his decision of what to do from there, and Felina which seems more like an epilogue where Walt and the people he encounters look back on the show's events in retrospect, right down to Walt's nostalgic stroll through that lab before he collapses. I've heard before that Walter White died laughing in that crawlspace and it was Heisenberg was who died in the end. I actually believe it was that last phone call with Flynn that killed him and the man we see go back to ABQ is a new man altogether.

Yeah, I was watching The Town and I noticed Ben Affleck was especially partial to reaction shots, to the point where he'll just cut away from the person speaking to the person listening, and linger on them, for quite a bit longer than another filmmaker probably would. Even in banal conversations... I don't know, I thought it was kind of illuminating.

The entire episode? maybe. The actual battle? some of the best cinematography i've ever seen on television. its movie level. Now that doesn't mean its better than a list movies. But for a tv show its extremely well produced and directed

Hodor's death might be the worst written, worst shot scene in GoT's history. It wasn't Game of Thrones in that moment, it was every other show that cheaply tries to manipulate it's audience with cliches, leading to a death that was predictable and hollow.
Unlike Hank's quick death in the dessert and a long meaningful reaction from Walt, we have a corny, overly long sequences leading to and showing hodor's death and not enough of a reaction from Bran, which is what mattered. Bran's response to his mistake should have meant something. It didn't.

***** Nobody disputes that breaking bad is the best shot show on tv. Best directed, best acted. Game of thrones is 100% plot and universe appeal. thats it. However, its the LONG CON thing. The hodor enigma has been around since the 90's, now it comes full circle. moving if for only that reason

I'm not even Breaking Bad fanboy. It might not be in my top 5 shows of all time, but GoT pales in comparison. It has a rich, expansive world, but the books do that better. It's problem is that doesn't use it's visual medium to it's full potential.
I'm not sure what Hodor enigma has been around since the 90's. Do you mean it was never explained in the books and is something the TV series got to show first? If so that just goes to prove how flawed the TV series is because I never felt like there was a big mystery that needed explaining. They didn't make me care, they just showed me information all in one big, confusing, time travelling, mind jumping scene that while easy to understand conceptually, came out of no where and felt plain wrong.
Everything down to Meera's cheesy-ass run down that cave to a previously unmentioned and overly convenient exit was just so poorly executed. As I watched it I just had to marvel and GoT had suddenly hit an all time low. One of my friends I was watching it with even started laughing and questioning if this is where he stops watching, and he knows nothing about the language of film or the way this stuff is put together.
