    They look really lovely! Ours have been in for just one year now and are just coming into flower now, I look forward to having a wonderful show like you have here, the big blue carpenter bees love them, and there are not many other sources of feed for them at this time of year, 18 degs here yesterday, so the bees were active, stay safe ! Hi Chris! Yes, I'm rather envious of this wonderful display the client has and they too just started from a few bulbs a few years ago, look at them now :) I saw my first Blue Carpenter bees at the site in Ambrieres last year, was absolutely blown away - one of them features in the Ambrieres video in fact - absolutely agree that the snowdrops are so vital for that first food source and help so many to survive into Spring when food is more readily available - 18 degrees..... ;) Best wishes, Joel

    it can be 20 below in January, and these will be the first flowers that pop up through the snow. the actual flowers will bloom the single day that is warm, even in January.

    Yep - desperately looking around for winter flowerers for my little orchard. Not sure if we can get snowies in Australia but i'll check it out. I'll be putting one of our Hardenbergia violaceae which flowers in winter. If I can't get it right, i'll be out there with a little paintbrush doing the job myself! Your snowdrops are really lovely.

      Absolutely love Hardenbergia - reminds me of a cross between sweet-pea and wisteria and of course so loved by bees, butterflies and bees :) The snowdrops truly are a harbinger of Spring here, it also means our Brimstone and Orange-Tip butterflies aren't far behind - stay safe, best wishes to you - Joel

    Beautiful! Love Snowdrops and these ones are just so pretty. The weather in Surrey was very Spring like today and I saw our first Bumblebee of the year this afternoon, alas she was not interested in our Snowdrops :o( . I hope she will be ok, especially if the weather turns cold again. I have no idea if Sarcococca has any benefit to wildlife(?) but the fragrance from ours is amazing at the moment. Hope you have a good week, Joel, thanks for sharing another lovely video.

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Debbie - aren't they just?! These have all naturalised over a few years, starting from just a few bulbs I'm told, and so important for bees. You will be pleased to know you are definitely doing your "bit" with the Sarcococca, absolutely it has a wonderful fragrance but best of all it is a vital food for early emerging bees and they will definitely appreciate it - the bees I saw on the snowdrops at the client's house seemed to be "newbies" in that they were taking a little while to work out where to get the nectar from! Thanks, as always, for your wonderful support, it is appreciated - best wishes to you and yours - Joel

    Thanks Joel, what a lovely spread of snowdrops. Coincidently, I bought a tray of snowdrops last week and have been trying to decide whether to plant in a pot or directly in the garden. Also bought a pot of English bluebells, so far only had the Spanish variety that I inherited with the garden.

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello again :) So glad you've already bought some of these - they will work equally well in a pot - the ones in this video were planted only a few years ago and I believe only a few bulbs, but they have spread so well in the right conditions, they clearly like dappled shade of course. English bluebells are my favourite, isn't Spring just great?! Best wishes, Joel

    Beautiful flowers and I wish I could grow some as they look very nice💕👌. If they do grow here, I would say Tasmania or regional highlands in Victoria would be the places as obviously the rest of Australia would not suit their planting zone requirements. Thanks for the video and great info as always, Joel👍!

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I was just "speaking" with a fellow Australian about these.. do you have Hardenbergia at all? It's absolutely great, both aesthetically in a garden and of course for early emerging insects :) But yes, you're right, I have a feeling they really "need" cold where they are... Hope all is going well - Joel

    • @EasyHikes4810
      @EasyHikes4810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton Hardenbergia is indeed available. I might look into it as I have to put a fence up as previously mentioned, so being a bit of a climber plant, it may suit to train it to creep along the fence.

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can do my best to help - my ponds are more for wildlife and therefore don't include fish (but I *do* like fish!) as they can be detrimental to young larvae of amphibians etc - the ponds I show on the channel can of course be used for fish too - make sure there are enough oxygenators to help keep the water clear - if you see the channel there are a few pond videos now, let me know if that helps :) Best wishes, Joel

    I carefully lifted the snowdrops in my garden 3 yrs ago and plonked them in a large tub. Garden landscaping is now finished and the snowdrops are still in the tub and flowering beautifully.... can I put them back in the garden now??

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there Clodagh - good for you for saving them :) Ok, The best time to dig up spring-flowering bulbs is about six weeks after they finish blooming. At this point the foliage will have died back but of course you can still see it, which makes locating the bulb easy. Also, leaving them for circa 6 weeks after blooming will mean that you ensure that the leaves have done their job of replenishing the bulb’s nutrient stores. Hope that's helpful, enjoy them in the container/tub for now and look forward to seeing them all over the garden next Spring :) Best wishes, Joel

    Can I plant it in India , Kolkata ?

    • @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton
      @WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there Bratati :) I know for sure that Snowdrops grow in the Himalayas and I believe they can be grown across India in the right situation - they do need to be in shade under trees, I am of course not sure whether they need cold at some point - however I know they are native not only to England but also to the Middle East... I hope that's helpful, maybe see if you can search on google for any suppliers near to you or who pay post bulbs or seeds? Let me know if that helps - best wishes, Joel
