I walked around Akihabara with a back pack full of Love Live key chains. The amount of tourists and locals asking me if they could take pics was amazing 😎
Funny thing for me is I have Japanese friend who wouldn't set foot in Akihabara. She says it's for otaku people and it's not the "real" Japan. Another Japanese friend isn't into anything there but said if I wanted to go she would at least show me around.
Tell your friend that without Akihabara, Tokyo would not have come out of World War 2 like it is now. Akihabara is where Japan's electronic industry started from, hence is called Radio Town and it is still the center of electronic gadgets, which the side of Akihabara Cathy's video didn't show. Its not all about the otaku sub-culture.
It was really an interesting trip while I was in Akihabara last few weeks. I strongly recommend foreigners to explore inside of the building. Don't judge from the exterior of the building. There are many hidden shops that are great with prices. I kinda pity the meido girls giving out flyers especially during rainy days. :/

Diesmal geht es mal wieder für 2 Wochen nach Tokyo. Bin ja mal gespannt, wie sehr sich Akihabara seit meinem letzten Besuch 2014 verändert hat. ^^ Aber selbst wenn das nichts wird...spätestens zur Kirschblütenzeit nächstes Jahr bin ich wieder (für 4 Wochen) in Japan...dieser Urlaub ist nämlich schon genehmigt, Flug ist schon gebucht und Hotel ist schon reserviert...dann aber hauptsächlich in Kyoto...auch wenn ich in Narita einmal werde umsteigen müssen.
