    You are a very active person and probably one of the hardest on boots of all of White's customers. I think White's does a respectable job building and rebuilding boots and at some point given a quality product the cost of boots in your job definitely becomes an expense of performing your duties. I suspect that you will ask White's to use the Red cross soles next time as they may provide a better service life. I started thinking gaiters might help some, but if they did you are probably already use them....

      I agree wildland firefighting is very demanding on boots and White's does a good job of making wildland fire boots. The boots need to hold up in all weather conditions with almost no maintenance since there is no time for it. The Forest Service does give a $300 stipend every three years for new boots which is a nice gesture. However I have spent over $1,000 in the last 3 seasons on boots. I wouldn't say this is always the case but it's not unheard of and it's what I needed to do to find the right boots for my feet. I have worn four different pairs of boots on the fire line and the pair in this video are definitely my favorite so far. When I called White's to ask about the dot on the sole they said they only use White dots for wildland boots now. I don't know why that is or if they provide a difference in service life. If anyone knows why I would be happy to know.

    White dot or white X it's anti slip for winter and flame resistance like red X. But more softer than red X

    I looked on the website and the smoke jumpers are now 625. Crazy. Nicks boots are the same. The rebuild with shipping from whites is around 330.

    Hi Joe! Thanks for putting together this vid, really useful & informative. I was wondering if you could let me know what height those Smokejumpers are? They look like a 10" but I could be wrong lol. Also do you remember what length of Obenauf's lace you got for them? I have a pair of 10" JKs on the way & want to get the same length of lace that lets you get that wrap around at the top

      Hi Savannah thanks for watching. I don't actually remember if they are 10 or 12. I would guess 10. And the laces I don't remember the length either. I'm moving now so they are buried but I'll let you know when I get a chance to measure them.

      @@gnarrdog Hi quick question, with a rebuild don't you take advantage of the fact that the shoe is already broken in to your foot, as well as the savings?

      I think they have some, but that's not what makes them unique. It's their material. They're made of kevlar.

    I’ve noticed some boots have a more “square” toe box, some are more round, is that from wear and tear or sizing the width?

    • @gnarrdog
      @gnarrdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea sorry. The tops on my toebox do tend to collapse down with time but I haven't noticed a change in the roundness of the toeboxes. But I haven't had any square toe box boots so I can't tell you what happens when those break in.

    • @jensrb50
      @jensrb50 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The toebox collapses with wear and get more oval and round . However there are different last shapes out there .
