We’ve been watching your videos for years. You do such a superb job of gathering footage and Aaron does a superb job of editing that footage into something beautiful. First rate work.
If you're watching this thinking I might do the West Highland Way one day just do it! I would make a case for it being the best all rounder multi-day hike in the world. It's relatively accessible, you can camp or stay in B&Bs, you can eat amazing Scottish pub food rather than army rations 🤢 it's not too hard or too easy and the scenery is second to none.
Six months pregnant hiking 10 miles if more each day, photographing & recording … you arc amazing. But what I enjoy the most in today’s flog was at the end when you finally walk into the restaurant and see your husband and you say with love & gratitude “ you my hero”, well today’s flog is also about a Love Story , the cast your husband , you and a baby in the oven … a family. ❤😊 thank you for sharing.
Dixie, my mother and I watched this together yesterday and it was a real treat. We get excited whenever one of us sees a notification and says to the other, "Hey, Dixie has a new video!" You are so precious, even to those of us you've never met, and we're happy to see you and yours doing so well. ❤💜💙
You are amazing Dixie!!! How many other pregnant women would even be out on those trails?!?!? Just be proud that you are out there exploring and experiencing the beautiful surroundings!!! Continued safe travels for both of you!!!
"it can't be worse than yesterday" - oh girl, you did not know what you were in for! The worst is over though, that part round loch lomond is the hardest part of the WHW. Loving your choices of scottish music too by the way!
3:11 "It can't be worse than yesterday". I'm smiling as I watch this. Oh yes it can. And you've got the Rob Roy's cave section to tackle yet! I'm re-living my hike through your incredible footage & know the stunning beauty you've yet to savour, not that this wasn't lovely. OMG you made it all the way to Inverarnan! I caught the ferry.... well just missed the last one @ 7.10pm so the skipper had to be persuaded to make another trip to take me over to the Ardlui Hotel at the head of the loch. I was glad to see the back of it too by then! Yet another wonderful video. I'm REALLY enjoying these.
When you said "It can't be worse than yesterday" all those who knew grimaced collectively! 😬🫣 The stretch after Invernsnaid is the hardest section of the WHW! Imagine doing that leg and arriving at Inverarnan campsite only to find it under 2 feet of water! That's what happened in 2020 when I did it. The community rallied round and The Drovers Inn let people camp in their garden. Good wee pub btw! 😊
I literally laughed out loud when you said, "I am the limiting factor ... being pregnant, it's like my center of gravity it off ..." For many of your fans out here asking "what in a world does this woman think she getting up to?" Y'all are making folks smile today. HappyTrails! If your travels take you as far as Inverness, there a little pub / music hall y'all might enjoy, called "Hootananny"
Your "governor" analogy is so accurate, Dixie! Our bodies let us know what we can and cannot do whilst pregnant, so I don't worry for you, especially since you and baby are not alone at this stage of the game. Your videos bring such joy to my heart; thank you for sharing them. Blessings!
This was exquisite, Dixie. I loved all the creative drone footage and the Scottish music. Just a work of art. Thank you for taking the time that it took to do all that filming, even though you weren't able to cover the miles you needed to in a timely fashion. Glad Rodney got your vittles and everything worked out well. I wouldn't have wanted to leave you on your own either, if I was him. Don't make a habit of that, please.
I live in the western NC mountains. I was struck by the amazing similarity between here and the Scottish highlands. It makes so much sense now why there is so much Scot heritage here. It looked like home.
Retired ER nurse here. Thank you for your video. Its deja vu for us having been to Scotland and the Lake District of England in May. We did not go to Loch Lomond but the Isle of Skye, Fort William and the Lake District are just like this. Post card pictures everywhere you look. Even with overcast skies. And waterfalls everywhere you go. If you get a clear day, go nuts taking videos and pictures. Stay safe and be careful.
I discovered Runrig about 2 months before their farewell concert, but they quickly became one of my favorite bands. That final show would have been a blast to see.
Loving this Dixie. But just going to say I love how your husband treats you with the respect that you clearly deserve on the trail! And loving your accompanying music!
“Mudflats and Fishcamps” by Erin McKittrick describes an 800-mile summer, all human powered, “at the pace of a 4-year-old” which is 7-8 miles a day while mom carried the 2-year old and dad carried everything else.
Jessica, you're six months along and you're still ahead of what I could do on that trail! Also, the contrast between the somatic experience of that kind of landscape and the documented record is always a let down, but man do I love seeing what you're capturing!
Yup, we dd the same thing, our fastest went ahead on that last stretch of Lomond to order food there. It is a lot more time consuming then it shows on the map. Great video
Dixie, you are just completely incredible! Beautiful trail, beautiful scenery, beautiful drone shots and time lapses. Thank you so very much for taking us along with you on your journey. You and Rodney are great together!A little late here but, Congrats on your wedding!!! - Shybee
Thank you for taking the extra time to film this gorgeous scenery. I’ve been on the fence about doing the WHW. I think you’ve changed my mind for getting out there and tackling this. Don’t think I could deal with the midges. Will need to do it earlier in the year.
Even at 22 and pregnant with my first child, when in mint condition so to speak, it wasn't a walk in the park during the second half of the pregnancy to do more strenuous things. I've always felt fine at that stage and full of energy, but there is someone else taking a lot out of you and you're feeling it, especially if it's about endurance. And balance... I felt like I was about to tip over every time I was going over a stone wall. It's a good decision to send an ambassador along to secure food if you can't make it on time. Missing a meal is not an option!
Days 2 and 3 are the most technical parts of the whw. The next few days are long but much easier walking. You're adventure is really inspiring me for my second wander on the way this Sept
Daisy, I could barely hike from the couch to the refrigerator when I was pregnant so I have immense respect for you! I had a "geriatric" high-risk pregnancy though. I'm so thrilled to see you following your passion and I pray for your continued good health. You rock!
Dixie, I think you are very brave to hike this trail a) in June and b) pregnant. All credit to your determination. Now another trail that you need to do ( in years to come), is the 370km Cape Wrath trail. That is very remote and dramatic, but needs to be done in Spring (May).
Another stunning video. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey! May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine upon your face and the rains fall softly upon your fields until we meet again, God hold you in the palm of his hand.
I’m so happy to see your wander in Scotland! It is beautiful and I hope you’ll continue to see the beauty of the countryside. I’m reliving my wander I took in August-Sept last year- 🥰🥰
You don't need me to tell you that this baby is going to change your life forever. There's no going back to the you you were before. It was difficult for me to deal with that reality at times, but I've never regretted becoming a mother. Wishing you all the best.
So true. People say you can raise the kid to love the outdoors. Incorrect. I took mine camping and hiking until around age 8-10 when he absolutely refused to participate anymore. It quietly broke my heart. Then you have to wait about 2 decades to get your chance again. I'm in PT trying to get there. My young adult child still avoids going outside.
Absolutely positively everything changes. As it should. It ain’t always easy (maybe often isn’t?) but who wants to be exactly who they were last year, 5 years, however many years ago? You’ll never be a “not parent” again and that is certainly a big deal. Regrettable only if you somehow believe you can stand in the way of time passing, and somehow many seem to believe they can. Dive in, head first.
@@dawnhughes9942 Yep. I had dreams of doing all sort of things with my little, but he turned out to be a special needs child who wasn't interested in any of it. You have to love the child you have, not the child you thought you wanted.
Thank you for sharing your hiking … living vicariously through your eyes and video footage. I do hear the mountain calling me and all the trails! Thank you
I think I loved this section the most! The ferns, the ROCKS (which there'd been some mushrooms), the greenery! Y'all looked like some nimble mountain goats there. Y'all did great! I want to live with elves and gnomes in rock hut!! ❤
What a great way you have capturing those landscapes ! You are really talented ! For sure your center of gravity is unusual but I think will come back 😊!
I've been following your channel since lockdown and loved watching all your hikes in the US, reviews of gear, knowledge of your own hiking experiences that you've passed on in your video's. I used a lot of that to help dial in my gear for my charity hike and camp of the WHW last year. Once the Loch part is completed it opens up, the Loch for me was the tougher part.
You’re a trooper! You conquered that tough section along Loch Lomond and made it to the Drovers! Well done! And thank you for capturing the waterfalls. A year ago, expecting to see the dozens of waterfalls along Loch Lomond, only one had water. Thanks for your vlogs. Indeed every turn has something incredibly stunning to see. And a camera doesn’t quite do it justice as you suggested. You come pretty close though!
I love the Drover's! I love the little blue beetles! I love that Rodney got a taste of what that baby is going to go through in a couple of months. 😂 Thank you so much for sharing all of this!❤
Your next stage up to Tyndrum is the only section of the WHW I've still to hike. Really enjoying your videos and the contrast with your usual power hiking trips on the big US trails. No 70-mile days this time!
thats probably the hardest stretch underfoot if youre lucky the snow will kill the midgies. you have probably noticed we arent getting a summer this year
I'm amazed you did this now. I was thinking next year after the baby is born. I wanted to get in touch to see if you'd consider doing a lecture at a Glasgow outdoor store, but hey I missed the boat. Hope you'll come back to Scotland some day. There's an audience would love to have you for a talk . Happy trails. A
I have to say, I hate bugs but your close-ups make them seem less gross to me. You really have a way of capturing the beauty of everything! Also I never would have thought of pregnancy slowing you down because your center of gravity changes. This series is so important!

Thank you. The best coverage of the walk I have seen. Your photography, music and always an interest in nature around you, which many leave out.

What a delightful trip. Scenery is spectacular. Thanks for taking us along 🙂

Yeah, I had no idea what we were in for lololol. That’s so cool the Drovers Inn let folks camp that year. It is a cool pub for sure!

Can't wait to see the videos about backpacking with a toddler.
Or a newborn, then growing baby😊

well maybe she is responsible enough to not put her child on the internet.
The music choices never fail!
lovely cut from the faucet to the falls!
You are Awesome! Don’t beat yourself up! This hike is stunning!
Good choice of music: Mogwai and Dougie Maclean.
Beautiful walk! You haven’t lost your video skills. ✌️
Thank you so much for taking us along!!!!
I'm amazed at how much this trail reminds me of NH's trails. Less lakes, but similar granite.

I hiked it 25 years ago, and remember that house at the end of Loch Lomond, but it wasn't in ruins back then. Beautiful video as always!
Thank you for the great music match with the wonderful footage. Love your adventure
Wow ! Ur baby is already a world traveler. Thx for taking us along , once again, on ur gorgeous adventures.

I must say I that stopped at Inversnaid Bunkhouse and then made my way to Beinglas the next day. Being kind to my knees as I am in advancing years.
Lovely intro with great music :) :)
