I performed this in Chicago with Z. Randall Stroope's choir in 2018, I think it was, and it was in a dream I had last night about Supernatural. Dean and Sam were running from a demon and they step into this massive cathedral with these huge beautiful chandeliers, and at 6:12 the chandeliers turned on, one by one, perfectly synced with the choir, and with a shower of sparks, the cathedral was illuminated. It was so gorgeous. I woke up and had to come listen to it to relive it.
Te Deum is one of the most glorious canticles and how wonderful to hear this marvelous Esenvald setting. Thanks be to God for word and music along with fabulous musicians!
Wow! The clarity! The huge dynamics! The choir and organ, brass, tympani, harp. What a great combination. The composer! The direction of the leader! Just makes me want to give God the glory like the text says!!!!
A remarkable performance, but I can't stop appreciating the balance achieved by the recording engineer. The text is clear, but the acoustical elements of the large space are still preserved.
David Hinitt you do such a wonderful job on Hyperion Choral records. I am an Audio Engineer my self but haven’t been able to crack the secret of how you achieve such incredible clarity and space.👏🏾👏🏾
I know this video was released a rather long time ago, but the crescendo beginning at 1:30 is truly extraordinary. I’m so honored to be able to sing this for the 2022-2023 Texas All-state auditions. My personal favorites: 1:48 1:56 2:29 4:00 5:53 (Beautiful use of the organ) 6:19 6:34
Well, I have discovered a TRULY remarkable composer... This doesn't happen every day, of course... It was IMMEDIATE, just knew it IMMEDIATELY when hearing this piece, right off the bat... First rate composer... Unquestionable.
I read through the score of this piece, and at the section you are talking about, the composer writes a direction above saying, “alla canzone popolare scozzese” (in the manner of a Scottish folk song). So your observation is what Ešenvalds wanted. :)
We praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord All the earth doth worship thee: the Father everlasting To thee all Angels cry aloud: the Heavens, and all the Powers therein To thee Cherubim and Seraphim: continually do cry Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth; Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty: of thy glory The glorious company of the Apostles: praise thee The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise thee The noble army of Martyrs: praise thee The holy Church throughout all thе world: doth acknowledge thee; The Fathеr: of an infinite Majesty; Thine honourable, true: and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter Thou art the King of Glory: O Christ Thou art the everlasting Son: of the Father When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man: thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death: Thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father We believe that thou shalt come: to be our Judge We therefore pray thee, help thy servants: whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood Make them to be numbered with thy Saints: in glory everlasting O Lord, save thy people: and bless thine heritage Govern them: and lift them up for ever Day by day: we magnify thee; And we worship thy Name: ever world without end Vouchsafe, O Lord: to keep us this day without sin O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us: as our trust is in thee O Lord, in thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded
That sounds too familiar. I live in southern We have a Pioneer Village on the fair grounds and during Christmas week we would have two services in this little chapel they moved into town off the prairie. An organ that was hand pumped and about 14 of us brass players trying to not freeze when it went below zero in Minnesota. Everyone in the church was bundled and we had about a 45 minute service, twice. It made me appreciate what our forebearers went through to worship. It must be a great place to play, though!!

Standard Hyperion Records - they do the same with St Paul's, Westminster Abbey, etc
Thanks Tyler! Your comments are much appreciated!

A total goosebumps moment, hairs standing on end. Stunning recording and the blend of choir, organ and accompaniment is absolutely superb. Adore this.

3:15-5:53 makes you imagine you are walking through the highlands of Scotland or being in a Scottish church.

An amazing experience just watching this clip... I LOVE the 3/4 lyrical section at 4:00 here more than anything else on the whole Northern Lights CD.
What a great video.. great choir... love watching the short blond girl in the front row belt it out..
We praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord
All the earth doth worship thee: the Father everlasting
To thee all Angels cry aloud: the Heavens, and all the Powers therein
To thee Cherubim and Seraphim: continually do cry
Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth;
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty: of thy glory
The glorious company of the Apostles: praise thee
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise thee
The noble army of Martyrs: praise thee
The holy Church throughout all thе world: doth acknowledge thee;
The Fathеr: of an infinite Majesty;
Thine honourable, true: and only Son;
Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter
Thou art the King of Glory: O Christ
Thou art the everlasting Son: of the Father
When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man: thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb
When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death:
Thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers
Thou sittest at the right hand of God: in the glory of the Father
We believe that thou shalt come: to be our Judge
We therefore pray thee, help thy servants: whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood
Make them to be numbered with thy Saints: in glory everlasting
O Lord, save thy people: and bless thine heritage
Govern them: and lift them up for ever
Day by day: we magnify thee; And we worship thy Name: ever world without end
Vouchsafe, O Lord: to keep us this day without sin
O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us
O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us: as our trust is in thee
O Lord, in thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded
A great modern voice in choral music (and great singing, despite the ambient temperature in Ely - I once had to play organ in gloves!)

Masterpiece amazing awesome beautiful wow
This is even better than in the church, the chorister is more free :)
Scary to think my competition is hearing this exact video lol
You’d better look out >:)
Inspirational choral singing!
I’ll be performing this on timpani at my university’s chamber choir concert, wish me luck! 🎶
Beautiful!
Beautiful.
So beautiful...
Outstanding!
Iespaidīgi, wow!
I believe I see a member of the King's Singer here too.
So great, I just can't help feeling the ending is a bit of a let down. That COLOSSAL organ chord, then ends on the bare 5th :/
Epic!
Speechless.
in memorium, daniel bolger 1985 - 2006
Man, do they put the pedal down!!
I love that you can see Eleanor (the organist) smirking at the end, loving every minute of playing that majestic organ.
so sad they cut this song for district auditions this year :(
