Your uploads are mesmerizing. The delivery of information is perfectly paced. Best-in-class technical attributes, combined with a legitimate commercial filmmaking resume makes this stuff almost too good for the platform. One more thing: The financial transparency in your material is borderline unprecedented. I love how the collision of credentials, connections, happenstance, and bullshit are woven into your stories about landing jobs in the biz. In fact, your honesty is refreshing and depressing. As a 45 year old ex-con who once made a living as a TH-camr (eg$63k Adsense check for one month @ peak in 2018) and now finds himself wanting to make the transition to professional work outside of the platform, this is sobering stuff.
Thanks so much man! Very kind of you to say, it’s what I’m going for so glad it’s helpful stuff :) If my channel had a back page I’d totally put your comment as a quote on it!
Scott, your channel is an international treasure to the fellow filmmakers out here! Always well made, always concise, always valuable insights one might not be able to get otherwise except for years of experience in the field. Here's hoping this blows up soon and lets you reap the well deserved rewards
Scott, your channel holds so much value for people in the industry. You are demystifying the role of the Director, as well as showing what it takes to create quality work with various budgets. You do all of this while still making your content entertaining to watch. Thank you very much for your efforts. I hope you see tons of growth with this channel. I will definitely continue to watch and learn. Again, thank you.
Honestly man your content on here is so good! This is an industry I want to get into and it’s so good to have a really clear and truthful perspective to watch. If you ever need a helping hand on anything/your own projects, I’m not far from London! 😁
I’m putting your name down on my list of future helping hands! Thanks Jon :) - if you could drop me an email with your details to scott@madebyscottpeters.com that’d be brilliant!
You mentioning the client say "Don't eff this up"... I"ve heard that one before. They are just putting their own stress and nervous energy onto you, which can only hurt the end product lol.
As always your videos are so refreshing! Its both a combination of a really smooth editing and awesome take on the industry with your past experiences as examples I think I'm not the only one to look forward to every new video on your channel and I hope it won't stop any time soon Take care of yourself and many thanks again!
Hey Scott, I'd be interested in your take on creative freedom and budget and the relationship between the two. I certainly recognise that sometimes the more money is involved the more everything is locked down. Are we all destined to sit on the continuum of passion projects vs well paid jobs or is there a sweet spot? Your experience on this would be much appreciated.
Alex this is such a great comment! I’ve honestly not given it consideration until now, but I think off the bat you’re right in a number of cases, but I think it largely depends what sand pit / ball park / playing field your in. I’m gonna chat to some bigger players than myself and get back to you… probably in the form of a video.
Amazing video. Question, 6:21 Height 4'7 is the height of the camera, Depth 34'10 is the distance from the subject at center frame to the camera, and W23x2-46 is the Width of the Frame that the subject was walking across, is that all correct? I know you mentioned at 6:33 that you measured the distance from the route to the camera, but wondering about the Height and Width. Thanks!
Hey John, I can’t remember exactly, but we had the tripod set to the same height for each shot, which the 1st AC measured out and had recorded. The width was dictated by the focal length we used, if I had to guess I’d say 24mm. The subject distance was then measured from the centre of the frame and then I’d just get him to take a few paces out of frame when he reached the edge of it.
No it’s not, but it massively helps, and the longer you’re in the industry the more people you come to know. But just last week I got two potential new jobs from complete randoms, thanks to the power of social media and the internet.
If only "industry" "influencers" were this good! Kudos bro!
