I like that stick carving. More that kind of carving please 😊
I like when you are winging it. Hearing you talk about the carving gives us a little insight into the creative process, that helps as much as seeing the cuts.
“I won’t get distracted”😂😂😂
Thank you Doug, I laughed so much!
Love to see landscape and a good carving❤
Great character Doug and a fun whittling ..Thank you so much for sharing
Greatest opening segment ever! 😅
Loving this. So much detail in such a small figure. Genius Doug. Looking forward to the next video.
A good carve..like it a bunch!!👍!! 🦊🧙♂️🐺!!
Well done Doug! Thanks for filming. 😁👍🏼
Love the winging it. That’s what we really do every time. Please do more
I love the cuts where he cuts two times and then flicks away a little piece just hanging on with the knife. 30:20 It's so satisfying. I'm going to try this myself. Cuts like that are perfect youtube short material by the way. A little loop of such cuts would hook anyone into this channel.
that was perfect, keep 'em coming, many thanks
i like those types of carving the most I believe. Enjoyed watching.
You Got a fan from Morocco, I love your works
Doug, again i love it. ❤
Greenwood is special and different for carving.
Have a nice Sunday and thanks.
Yes enjoyed it very much indeed keep them coming Doug please 🙏
Thanks Doug, Really enjoyed watching you carve!
Gooood morning from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great day!
I like you winging it Doug. Nice to watch you work through the carve.
Thank you for sharing another great carving
Hey he kinda looks like an off duty Santa,,
❤ love your work Doug
Really nice wee carving. I enjoyed the video.
Nice tutorial and thanks for posting it. Very helpful. As an ADD carver, your intro was outstanding. :)
I enjoyed this unscripted format. It’s interesting to see the various techniques used to create something new.
I enjoyed thi video, it's nice to see how you are able to change the carving as you go as it demonstrates how we lesser carving mortals who make mistakes can fix them. Excellent video as usual, keep them coming.
Thanks Doug that’s so perfect and you make it look easy! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Yep just wing it, thanks and take care!
Lovely video Doug. Thanks.
Looks great Doug I love it, now I gotta go find me a stick 🤪
Please! Make more carvings on sticks! They're so satisfying!
I love to see you wing it. It helps me develop a thought process for creating my own caricatures. Thanks Doug.
I love it Doug! Plan or no plan it's a lot of fun watching your creative process!
perfect timing - I just trimmed an aspen at the cottage so have lots of stock for the next few weeks!
This is great, trying different woods is awesome keep on going!!!
Wing it every time. It's fun.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and experience with us.
Love it? I could watch you for hours!!! The more I watch, the more I learn. I'll be doing a lot of practicing once we have everything buttoned up for the winter. I did take out a 2 year subscription to Woodcarving Illustrated back in January. Then, of course, I got hooked and ordered a number of back issues. Your work is awesome Doug!!! I enjoy all aspects of it. I know you are busy like all of us, but please keep it coming! I appreciate your time in putting out your videos. Take care!!!
This is where I want to get to.. just grabbing a stick and winging it into whatever comes out.. Thanks for yet another great video Mr Linker. 👍🏻
Gr8 effigy of Charles Darwin ,thanks for showing us Doug ,its true you just get carried away in thought when your carving lol take care . Ant
Loved it Doug, you are a talented carver. I'm heading out to cut some sticks...
Thanks to teachers like you , I have come a long way in carving. I spent some insane amounts of $ on equipment and love it. I have a problem. I go full send in everything I do. Started making fishing lures this year. More $ lol.
🎉❤you knocked it out of the park great change of pace
Always fun carvings you make them so easy thank you
Really enjoyed watching this one. Thanks 👏
I really enjoyed watching you "wing it". This gave me more of a sense of the thought process of carving. Thank you Doug.
I really enjoyed this. What a treat. I hope you do some more “winging it” videos. These are as much fun as your tutorials, which I thoroughly enjoy. Thank you.
Thanks for the stick-videos! There are way to few out there that also show how to start from just a branch, which can sometimes be a bit discouraging.^^
Nicely done on carving and showing how too make this a fun carving.. Thanks
🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
This has been a fun distraction from the 1 X 1, which I have also enjoyed. I really like it. I don't know if this would be good every week, but one or two occasionally would be a blast. Believe it or not, I even learned a thing or two. Thanks for this one and keep it up.
i realy love this stick series
I actually enjoy carving the quaking aspen. I have an endless supply so that might be why. Nice DiResta ice pick!
It's awesome to see the thought process.
1st, thank you! I enjoyed the use of gouges and the like 👍. I learned some new stuff this vid!
Best wishes From Wasaga Beach ⛱️
Great fun video. I have started using a gouge for the eye and nose after watching you for a long time. Thank you!
Great little character, need to try one of those.
🤣 Manys the time I've heard, "Don't get lost!". I can relate to this video. Aspen has some wildife value.
Love all your videos but it was obvious you were really enjoying the Freeform carve, and I was caught up in it as well. I always learn so much while enjoying your carves. Thanks for sharing your talent.
simply brilliant..💚🇬🇧🌱
Winging it is great. Doug you are an elegant carver and a little bit like Mr Rogers for adults. Really good video.
So many other comments have said it all, love the little trip out to get some fish😂
Great carving. Thank you
I've been watching your videos to learn to carve with my 12 year old son. As a backcountry camper also I thought the beginning of this video was hilarious.
Winging it is great! Your teaching style works well. I talk through all your decisions.
I really enjoyed watching you work. Freedom to make your character how ever you decide. That’s how I like to make things. Thanks so much. I’m new to woodworking. I’m enjoying my journey.
Great little project. Really enjoyed watching the transformation from stick to character.
Loved watching this one. I think it's more relatable compared to the full on tutorials, not that those aren't great either. I just mean because most times we're all just winging it too. Awesome little guy you carved there. Shame you had to go all that way to find a stick though 🙂
I really also like the impromptu carving and he looks like an old time preacher to me.
I love it ❤😊
Love him Doug ❤. Great seeing you wing it.
love it Doug! I would definately like to see more winging it! Great to see your thought process when you have to make a change. thanks brother!
I really enjoy watching you wing it. I can really tell you like doin what you do . God has defiantly given you a great talent and I want to thank you for sharing it. I have leaned a lot by watching you .
It is really interesting to hear you talking and your reasoning for doing things. It helps with understanding with the why for doing things. Thanks.
That was fun. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. ✌🏻🤍
Sticks are sooo hard to find in Canada😂❤
Nice love it, thats how I wanted to carve when I started. Just a stick and a knife. And a camp! 😂❤
Great intro & super video once again. Keep winging it although could you do a tutorial on the hiking old man you painted in your paint along with me video from 3 years ago? Thanks for considering it.
Is so nice and relaxing to waching you Doug carving beautiful job look awesome .
Great job winging it!!
Thanks for the video !!
I'm a new carver ( from Canada) and just made the little owl on the 1x1,
Question, on this green wood how do you prevent it from splitting? Do you make any female faces? I am 12 mins into this video so, if you say later sorry to bug you. TY for great sound work and videos!!!
Thank you Doug, very enjoyable.
Love this!
I love this channel. I haven't found any girl characters that you've done. I'm trying to work out how to do some for my daughters. It would be fun to see what you come up with!
cool
😂😂😂😂 love the intro
fun fun fun !!!!
Love the intro to the video 😂😅porta john Break
Nice job Doug, similar to what I do when camping with grandchildren, except.... I do multiple figures standing on top of each other (or snakes/whatever), then a handgrip, with other designs/animals/faces to form a staff or hiking stick. It keeps them interested to see what each one wants, they get to cut their own stick and it gives this old guy something to do around the camp fire. I unashamedly copy some of your designs (from memory). Thanks Doug, haven't been here in a while, love your "work".
I loved the video I had to go cut a branch.
You just amazing buddy
Love it. I'm slowly getting better. Making a ton of Xmas present while practicing
GRETING FROM P.R. love your carvin it looks lick you.😍👍👍
Can't wait to see the full version of "Doug's Distraction"
Aspen is available in the US as lumber. Even as kiln dried it is a nice wood to work with.
Theres a carving of an old man in a similar pose at my parents'. They,ve had it for as long as I can remember, and I am now of an age where being forgetful is completely acceptable. Whenever Mom saw me looking at the carving, she would say (in her best old, confused man voice) "Plumbs...?? When did I buy plumbs??". I was around 10 before I clued in that the implication had nothing to do with the old gent discovering unexplained produce in his pockets. 😂
Nice smallmouth what lake if you don't mind me asking. I heard the train again. Nice work Doug.
Awesome
How about making a Paul Bunyan that would be kind of cool because you’re in Minnesota and I’m in Maine of have the same thing going on with Paul Bunyan
30 seconds into the video and i'm rolling on the floor laughing...
Got a fan from Central Illinois hoping to move to Citrus County, Florida, in the near future
Slenderman is very far from a superhero my friend, but we’ll let you off as you’re awesome!!
Another great video! When working with green wood do you find it necessary to clean your blade afterward and if so what do you use to clean it? Also do you seal the ends of the wood with wax?
Would you evert consider showing us how to do a simple female face? Young or old - doesn't matter. Thank you for your awesome videos.
