@EdJollyboat Love it in Liverpool just down the road. I listened to that particular one a few weeks ago while in the bath. A good episode. Orsen Wells acted in it if I remember correctly. Saint Helens, Earlestown, and more were mentioned. WW2 if memory serves.
Air Date:12.23.1943 ( December 23, 1943) Plot:+ "Back For Christmas". Sponsored by: Roma Wines. A meek British botany professor plans a "Devil's Garden" in the basement; a grave for his henpecking wife! The story was produced on "Suspense" again on December 23, 1948 as "Holiday Story" and on December 23, 1956. + In a week Hubert and his wife Hermionie are going on a trip to America but not for long, they will be back for Christmas. Hubert is a henpecked husband and when his bossy wife finds him digging up the floor in the cellar to plant his devils garden she complains at him vehemently. Soon after he meets a kind lady in a bookshop who assumes he is a widower and the idea of being a widower plants thoughts of murder in his mind. www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/thriller/suspense/back-for-christmas-1943-12-23
Just curious, I looked something up. If you have an old E series 1k war bond--bought for 750--it is worth about $9000 today. I don't think that has even kept up with inflation. Though the best time would have been after 30 years. But if you have inherited one, you have a bit of money. Of course for 40 years at least, the government does not rely on bonds, it just prints money.
Could someone please help me with something. Please listen to this bit of dialogue between Peter Lorre's character and some unknown young actress at 24:18 and tell me what the young lady calls Lorre's character, Hubert immediately after he says, "just a joke." "... a cunning old" what exactly??? Its at exactly 24:21 Is it what I think it is?? It cant be fox. Maybe???
Peter Lorre was a legend.
Peter Lorie is always great! Well played during pandemic 2020 June Oakland CA. Just chillin😃

I wondered the same and replayed it several times. Definitely sounds like she dropped the F bomb. 😅
A cunning old F*ck in my opinion.
I found the script online. She did say, fox.
It’s definitely “fox.” Traditionally considered a sly or sneaky animal.
