With your time, initial outlay on equipment, providing service and the existential threat that your business model can be crushed by FTTP I don't know if this is the best use of your time... but very entrepreneurial and some great lessons learned + content!
Alex you could upgrade your lease line from Virgin to 20gb to increase speeds to 100/100MPS TO COMPLETE with fibre. I am aware that EE 5g have speed caps less than 80mps, and three offer speeds in rural areas not much more than 65 mps with 15mps upload speeds. For example, many smaller villages will not have full fibre but have a digital phone line on a copper line but the telephone line will be digital. To increase the range you need a larger pole with a bigger dish so other rural and small villages could access your service.
Virgin don’t offer a 20gbps service, he barely has 1gbps presently. Smaller villages will have sogea (which is essentially fttc), so can access up to 80/20, that said many “alt nets” are rolling fibre into small villages too. Speaking from the perspective of owning an isp myself
Getting 20Gb/s out of his dad's house wirelessly is going to be the biggest challenge. He's got a 1G bearer at the moment, and that AF5x will only do 650mb/s absolute best case (if it's the better HD version).
@@JohnWatkinsUK I still can’t believe he’s charging 540 pcm for a 100mbps service. I’ve already checked the btor fibre duct maps and the hotel could get 1gbps for significantly less!
EE speed has different speed tiers but their 5G broadband is full speed, Three however have no speed limits and are purely limited to congestion and band availability, I've seen everything from poor 8Mbps to over 1Gbps in rural areas on Three. As for larger towers and antennas there are limits you can run into from planning authorities, cost and congestion from spreading the same amount of spectrum over a larger area
OMG Alex! I’m literally trying to do the exact same thing in this very rural area (~200-300pop) that I’m in. The current internet is garbage and I’m trying to bring fast high speed internet to my people. I did research and from out I can get a fiber line (it’s expensive) and I’m wondering can I serve the community with 100mbps or do I need to go higher. I have so many questions. Help me pleeeeaasse!
Depends on what your budget is since its going to be hella expensive and, ofcourse. line of sight. not high building, no trees and other things that block connections.
a 100mbps fiber line if you're going to be serving customers. Between 10 people, that shrinks down to 10mbps which is pretty slow. with QOS, you want to be serving down to 20mbps minimum. Maybe get a gigabit line if you can? It'll be hella expensive but it'll be worth it.
If your traffic shaping is done on that edge router your going to run out of processor very fast, get yourself an infinity router fitted, it’s peanuts for a wisp like you … also WISP = wireless internet service provider. Come on Alex! why are you not using gigabeams or air fibre? Why are you using unifi switches and not edge switches ? Why are you not using edge power for back up reasons ?
There is one misconception: you can get fibre internet even in rual countryside. It's only very expensive. It's a shame he didn't mention the cost of his internet connection: In my country it's about 2000$ a month and 50000$ installation for some ballpark numbers. It allways depends where they need to dig and if the faster tranching is possible or if there are some areas where they have to dig by hand.
@@therelaytimes redundancy is always needed if you’re offering a proper service. His existing service is vmb provided over btor. Plenty of other carriers using btor to provide carrier resilience.
He’s only got one line which is silly, ideally he’d have 2 separate lines from 2 different providers that connect to different datacentres along different routes, I understand that might not be possible but at least have a Starlink at each pop as a failover,

I wonder what the cost of those dishes / install costs are?
@@stevejones8392the UK government are funding the full UK to have access to a full fibre connection
Great video!
Gotta commend the entrepreneur in him, but that network, for all of its devices, is hanging on by a thread.
Do you dish out public IP's to your customers ? (if so adding into a video explaining the routing of this would be good)
That’s too complicated for him, I’m honestly surprised their not all on the same network
would be great to see more videos coming up soon
> undisclosed location
> shows the GPS coordinates
where 😭
awesome, new sub bro.
Bro you should start preparing for optical fiber connections serving to your customers asap.
What about the places that's hard to manage?
Good now I wanna make my own ISP lol. Would be an amazing project but expensive for the first time.
Super great video 😊😊
@9:53 if you have a 360 dish why do you need the 90?
I really want to know how you keep that rack cool in your dad’s loft. Surely it must be scorching up there in the summer?
Is your supply from isp redundant like two individual lines incoming ? That is ideal when having customers.
Nope, he’s even only got a single core “router” with no redundancy!
@@therelaytimes redundancy is always needed if you’re offering a proper service. His existing service is vmb provided over btor. Plenty of other carriers using btor to provide carrier resilience.
He’s only got one line which is silly, ideally he’d have 2 separate lines from 2 different providers that connect to different datacentres along different routes, I understand that might not be possible but at least have a Starlink at each pop as a failover,
Can you do 30 days of vlogmas again? Back to the past!
great job dude..
router the way you said is it is the wooden tool, router the way you think americans say it is the internet version
also i like your idea of down to speeds
❤❤❤❤❤ LICENSING PLEASE. CAN YOU DO A TUTORIAL ON WHETHER I NEED A LICENSE OR NOT😊😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Can you created a detailed video on the parts and functions of your internet setup
Hi Alex, just wondering how do you get a sponsorship?? i’ve been looking but after advice.. also do u know anything about a good gimbal for iphones so u can start doing lives?? i want a good quality live… hope you can advise me on both ,, Andrew
Down to speeds seem like a great idea
-Great idea, however to be scalable with customer support: 1. UX friendly (grandma approved) online knowledge base; 2. UX friendly chat support; 3. email with any images needed; 4. text with any images needed; 5. phone calls.
-Customers need to think about after service and maintenance when things break.
-How does this setup compare to blockchain Helium and/or WiCrypt? Seems ideal to setup a DAO (decentralised autonomous organisation), automating payments and management.
-How do Brits say 'toot' as in car horn and 'tout' as in to advertise? root, route?
When he uploads on this channel with tech stuff he treats us like dummies who don’t know nowt.
When he uploads on tech flow he treats us like we do project management at Ubiquti 😂😂
Do you have another channel? Swear someone else just like you but I can't find em.
This video was fun though, love wisp and wireless p2p
is starlink killing your buisness ?
What is the lifespan of this external antennas?
don't you have reasonability's as a service provider though ? such as keeping data for 2 years
Were is your safety harness and helmets
