How Buddhists around the world celebrated the Vesak festival 2024 - ලොවම මවිත කල පිළියන්දල ගඟබඩ පාරේ විශ්මිත මහා පහන් කූඩුව 2024 (Piliyandala Gangabada Road Vesak Kooduwa - Rotating Beautiful Lantern)
Vesak is one of the most important Buddhist festivals. It is also known as Wesak or Buddha Day. It's a celebration of the Buddha's birthday, he is the central figure of Buddhism. For some it also marks when he discovered life's meaning, known as enlightenment. It's celebrated every year.
Vesak: Celebrating Buddha's timeless legacy
As the whole country embraces the tranquillity of Vesak, His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe joined in as the Chief Guest to unveil the main Vesak festival, the ‘Buddha Rashmi’ National Vesak Zone, at the Gangarama Temple premises last evening (May 23, 2024).
The festival, organized under the guidance of the Deputy Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Maha Viharaya, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, and Secretary to the President, Mr. Saman Ekanayake, is held in partnership with the Presidential Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Maha Karuna Buddhist Association of Singapore. It will be exhibited until May 26.
The festivities take place across the Presidential Secretariat premises, Galle-Face, Gangarama Temple and Baudhaloka Mawatha. This spectacular event bathes the entire city of Colombo in a dazzling array of multicoloured light decorations and spectacular Vesak ornaments. The highlight of the festive is that several foreign diplomatic missions in Colombo also joined in to exhibit Vesak decorations. Sil campaigns, Dhamma sermons, meditation programs and the exposition of the Sacred Relics took place at many temples across the island.
Vesak lanterns, pandols, Dansalas, Bhakthi Gee (devotional songs) concerts, street dramas including Noorthi and Buddhist Jathaka stories. An exhibition showcasing Sri Lanka’s cultural and archaeological heritage is also being held at the Temple Trees premises. There were 140 dansalas registered in the Colombo City, of which the largest number was rice dansalas. The highest number of dansalas has been registered in Borella and Narahenpita.

පිළියන්දල ගඟබඩ පාරේ වෙසක් පහන් කුඩුව කොච්චර වෙලා බලන් හිටියත් එපා වෙන්නේ නැති මෙවර දැකපු ලස්සනම දැවැන්ත පහන් කූඩු නිර්මාණය කමයි මේ. 2024 වෙසක් උත්සවය නිමිත්තෙන් ඉදිකරනු ලැබූ ලස්සනම පහන් කූඩුව කිව්වොත් නිවැරදියි.
සම්බුදු තෙමඟුල සිහිපත් කරමින් නිර්මිත දැවැන්ත පහන් කූඩුවක් ලෙස නිර්මාණය කර තිබූ මේ මහා පහන් කූඩු රාජයා කොච්චර අපුරුවට සියුම් කැටයම් නිර්මාණය කර තිබුණා. කලු කොලය මත සියුම් ලේසර් කැටයම් වලින් පිරි පහන් කූඩුව හා යන්ත්‍රානුසාරයෙන් ක්‍රියාත්මක නිර්මාණයන්ගෙන් සමන්විතව විශාල මහන්සියක් කැපවීමක් දරා තිබුණා. නලපාන ජාකය ඇසුරින් හඩ පටයක් සහ ආකෘති නිර්මාණය කර විලට අරක් ගත් දිය රකුසා සහ ජලය පානය කරන වදුරන් රංචුව අපූරුවට නිර්මාණය කර තිබුණා. මෙවර මෙය අපේ රටේ නිර්මාණය වු සුවිශේෂී පහන් කූඩුවක් බව නම් කිවයුතුමයි. පුරා දින 9ක් නොමිලයේ ප්‍රදර්ශනය කරනු ලබන මෙය නැරඹීහ සඳහා සැදැහැ සිතින් ඔබ සැමට ආරාධනා 🙏
