- Welcome to Hikeaholics, Chay here !
We’re back on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders for this 3 mile circular walk. We start and finish at Herringfleet Hills Car Park, St. Olaves Road, Herringfleet, Lowestoft, NR32 5QU.
From the ‘free’ Car Park, head through the gate and turn left to walk across the field towards the treeline ahead. Follow the path through the trees to the gate, but veer right, away from the gate and follow the path to the Mill and River Waveney, passing through one gate on the way. Carry on over the wooden bridge to the Mill and then follow the riverside path to the left, along the River Waveney to Somerleyton. Take a left onto Staith Lane and follow it around to the left. Then it’s a left onto Slugs Lane where you pass the Dukes Head. At the end of Slugs Lane turn left onto St. Olaves Road. We stop and have a look around the Grade 1 listed, built 11th Century St. Margaret’s Church before going back onto the road. After row of houses turn left down a grassy footpath. Once you reach the gate, head right and up and onto the Open Access land to the Car Park.

Thanks for the walk suggestion. I hope to give it a go myself over the next couple of weeks.
@@RalphWoodcock I walked this route last week & it was quite overgrown in some parts with stinging nettles & I was wearing shorts again🤣
Another lovely walk, along with beautiful weather. Love the marshland/river walks in Norfolk/suffolk.
@@mrashby3545 I’m the same as you, I love the marsh & river walks. Halvergate & Acle are my favorites. I must get out & film them both. They both have lots of drainage mills on the route.😍
@@HikeaholicsWWW Ah yes, the walk to Acle along the Bure ( via Stokesby) is one of my favourites. Love doing this one during the cold winter months (Good excuse to take my hipflask with honey mead to keep warm) Halvergate, and also the walk to Reedham are fantastic hikes too. And yes indeed, many a drainage mill and wildlife to view. Look forward to seeing the video's when you film them both.
