girls in indian society don't get properly educated to have good careers. Even if they get good education, their own parents push them to give importance to marriage/family instead of their career.
Most girls in indian society end up as housewives who are dependent on their husband's income.
So it's those parents' faults, who doesn't support their daughter's career. If daughter doesn't earn money how will she spend money to take care of parents??
Indian husbands believe His earned money is only his money. he doesn't understand that his wife needs to take care of her parents too.
      therefore this problem.
Educate daughters, push them to earn good money, they'll spend that money on you when you're old.

@@rajc2645 I can't agree. I myself is a CA, CMA. I work at a an MNC which provides enough for us to have a comfortable home, i take my husband and in-laws to yearly foreign trips.
the comfort i feel when i provide the luxury and care to my own parents, using my own money is immense.
My husband also earns enough but he has to go to long work trips often... that time i take full responsibility of his parents and my own. That earns me respect and dependance of these 4 people.
Everything good that happened to my life was possible because my parents didn't hesitate to educate me, push me to get good respectable job.
They made my life what it is now. so i return as much as i can.

It's a give and take relationship. In India if you say my parents abuse me everyone was like it's normal why you make such a big deal. What's the problem that they don't allow you to do work or always make sure you're dependent on them but when times come they make Pikachu face that why there children are not responsible. Amitabh sir was amazing father to his daughter in this movie. He was not controlling her what she should do or not he simply guide her what she should do to protect herself and this is the reason she stayed with and cared for him.

Yes sometimes parents do ruin their kids lives, regardless of daughter or son and Indian or otherwise ! Parents are also just people who are trying to figure their shit out as they age and there is no perfect way to 'parenting' but it's also a matter of principle that they shouldn't have and raise children just so they can burden them by depending on them or controlling them excessively to fulfill their own needs and desires. If one can't do justice to being a parent, then pls don't become one.

You do realise that in movie; they showed father didn't want his daughter to get married and have free sex not because he believed in free sex and independence but was scared that if she got married then she won't be able to take care of him. Father was extremely selfish and hell bent on destroying his daughter's life. His daughter was getting past child bearing age and he had no concern about that.
Still don't agree!? Ok towards the end of movie you can notice daughter tells her would be lover (Irfan khan) that his mother sacrificed a lot and was a working woman. She had to leave her job because her father demanded everything for him to get done by her mother. She had to leave ger job however he didn't make ger leave the job.( It was implied there)
All in all, father is the kind of guy here who shows himself as someone who is free spirited and not a misogynist a modern man. But actually he is the meanest guy possible. He is not what he shows and wants people to think of him. In some dialogues even her daughter implied this(Dipika Padukone)

i think it's only natural that children needs to take care of their parents after a certain age.
In india, only men are allowed to take care of their parents. even DILs are supposed to take care of her husband's parents... And it's considered as cruelty when DILs don't take care of them..
but Husbands don't take care of his wife's parents. even wives are not allowed to stay with her parents and take care of them...

@@aschannel8664 some children are abused mentally and physically by their parents they get multiple personality disorder or other mental illness due to that. And you say why not forget? I mean somr parents have ruined their children's life and you are saying as if it's a normal everyday thing which should even matter at all. Not everyone has a good life some parents are really evil and it affects the rest of the childs life so no they cant forget because they have permenent issue which they didnt deserved. Even if they do forget they will never have a great relationship with their parents. Ik some who were sexually assaulted by their parents both women and men and some others were locked up at home or in cages since they were small kids beaten or treated really badly they cant even sleep alone now. Idk why are we Ignoring the fact that not all parents are angels and they can indeed ruin a childs life and there is no one to protect them. Iam studying psychology and one of my client was always beaten up badly his father used to drink and beat him he was admitted in critical condition many times almost died 4 times he had multiple personality disorder schizophrenia and amnesia which means he keeps forgetting things and he has multiple identities ehich protect him from that trauma but also thinks they are diff individuals so he has tried commiting suicide as his parents told him he has made up his identity in his brain and called him a psycho. He is also a drug addict started in early age so he wont feel anything. He wasnt even beaten for good reason so don't try to justify that. Ik plenty of children with childhood trauma and speech disorder all because of their parents. They were born happy kids but now can hardly speak properly. Many didnt even get mentally old their physical age is 25 but mentally 5 because of all childhood trauma due to parents again. Im not saying all parents are bad but plenty are do you cant say forget and move on because you didnt saw what they go through. Its not as simple as just saying let's forget it and it's also not as simple as parents being bit selfish its diff from that. Parental abuse can cause permanent issues or make a child suicidal which people dont realise that yet smh.

If I'm a girl that doesn't mean I don't have responsibility of my parents after getting married. If a guy has to look after his parents so I also have the right to look after my parents. No thanks. We don't want to ask. Having abusive and insulting parents who make you sad for decades is just as painful as parents dying. Orphans may struggle because no one taking care of them but they atleast feel their love (see your own comment for that). Children of abusive parents get food and place to live but live in shame and self hate and depression EVERY SINGLE DAY.
And in some cases, they don't even get enough food. Some families shame girls for eating well because 'girls should stay thin, if they eat a lot they will be fat' .

Even when the guy cracks a joke of her situation, she took it like a joke rather than aggressively pushing back. In my experience while interacting with people a lot of people takes a discussion as an argument leading to heated conversations.
