What is your take on charger freeze on new locations as relates to semi. The semi needs a different charger than auto and most current stations can’t physically handle trucks. One of the earlier stated obstacles was the need to build new infrastructure quickly as semi hit road. Most would have chargers at start and delivery point but still inadequate. Any ideas?
There’s nothing dumb about that opinion. But ultimately the Tesla semi is a fail and it proves this year after year. Just like the solar roofs are a fail. Neither ‘product’ has any meaningful impact in the real world or on the balance sheet.

Tesla ate so far from the first m9ver on semi trucks. There's, Renault, Mercedes, I believe a couple of US companies lord knows how many Chinese companies not least of all a now well established Electric Bus companies all over, these are basically semi working out of a home base. There are plenty of batteries that can be purchased in the open market. There’s another reason Tesla isn’t producing them in mass. Probably has more to do with cost.

On a related matter Musk really screwed up when he made the decision to not pursue a cheap BEV. His $50B pay package. I mean, does need for megachargers suggest that Tesla hold on infrastructure will only be relatively short lived until semis are on road or Tesla will sell magacharger units to others who will install like Tesla selling superchargers to others (BP Electrify America ) as been suggested.
I would not automatically jump to Tesla slowing down anything regarding the megachargers based on what we know or anecdotal information. Way too much of that going on with this layoff. The semi is a bright spot where Tesla does not have to compete with countries willing to buy the EV market. As far as I know.
I just don’t see how we can keep using road infrastructure the way we do today. Electric cars and trucks, as much as I love them, can’t save the planet alone. We need massive investments in rail infrastructure, and moreover is needs to be federalized as the major private railroads have proven they do not care about running railroads effectively, they only care about profit squeezing.
Electric passenger trains are a common thing on east coast. It would be cool if we could do the same with freight trains. In the early days of transportation there were electric/battery electric trolleys. The trolleys would go on overhead electricity when in the city but used batteries for gaps in the lines or to reach out to areas just outside the electric lines. Did you know that home electricity typically followed out from the electric trolley lines. If you didn't have a trolley line you most likely didn't have house hold electricity.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, considering there will be less friction with steel on steel contact with the wheels and rails, maybe they'll have better range than private road vehicles or Semi's. With the torque that electric motors can provide maybe would be even better for hauling long freight trains.

The diesel/electric train was because of the powerful torque that electric motors provided for uphill climbs, while diesel was chosen for its efficiency. Overhead wire freight just gets rid of the need for diesel to go long distances and batteries allows them to through areas that don't have the overhead wires. The Tesla Semi have lead to a discovery that larger heavier freight trucks actually make it easier to capture regenerative braking energy going down hills. I wonder if this will be the case for electric freight trains? Probably yes.
The original semi announcement was full of promises that seem like vapourware by now. The one I remember that I thought was really important for its success was that Tesla was supposed to build the chargers and they were going to guarantee a rate that was ridiculously low to make the operation cost really cheap. That seems to have been forgotten.

Heavy loads or cold weather will affect range. Don’t run your air conditioner or heat as your range will decrease also. It won’t be that popular. Just like the cybertruck being a yuppies pickup truck not meant for a real contractor, this truck will be used by companies like Pepsi for virtue signaling. I've seen several of them on flatbeds and on the side of the road here in Southern California. The reduced hauling capacity and range makes no sense. They're about 3x the price of the diesel equivalent. Before the fans attack, tell mw why Tesla wont post the MSRP and wont post the actual hauling capacity. Recharging a 900 kWh battery pack overnight could need a 70 or 100 kW charger, especially if avoiding peak hours.
I can’t wait for this thing to hit the market in large volumes. Watching reviews of it would be cool also.

It’s because Volvo’s semi is only able to do around 250 miles in it’s current iteration while the Semi does 500 easily

Lower cost of electricty could help balance the equation. Increasing daytime solar could lead to being paid to charge.

Charging an EV will cost 50% less than a ICE truck. You will start losing profit just when your competitor will update their fleet with EV
