In a sloop and bailing out the hatch look straight out the window when throwing the water. If you look up and the water hits the hatch it will return to your ship so always look straight out when using the window, the water comes out of your face not the bucket.
Great tip I have also discovered since this that you can basically aim at the bottom of the window and it goes right out as well
@@Schrogs I'm pretty sure there's an audio queue difference as well. When the water splashes in it sounds different than if it makes it out. I'm going to try this aim tactic.
@@Jonas_Fox I think you are right, you can kinda hear the water slosh back into your ship if you miss if I'm not mistaken! Great point!
You can actually stand at the bottom of the second set of stairs and bail water over the first set out of the ship. You dont even have to use that window. In a hectic situation. It will save you those critical seconds you need by eliminating unnecessary movement

Another important thing is to understand your ship's advantages and disadvantages, and use them... A Sloop takes in water slower compared to a Brig, and unless a Galleon has holes both bottom and middle "floor", it takes the longest to sink. A Galleon is fastest with the wind, slowest against. Sloops are slowest with, fastest against the wind compared to any other ship class. Brig is uh...fastest when the wind is to your side, middle ground against the wind (Wont catch up to a Sloop, but will outrun a Galleon). A Sloop has the highest maneuvreability (quick turns), fastest anchor raise, quicket mast repair. Using this knowledge, _very_ experienced players usually sail in pairs on a Sloop and are more than capable of taking on several ships at once, regardless of the opponent's ship class, utilizing sabotage to it's max. They will do their best to drop your anchor when you're chasing them against the wind. Close enough, they'll take out your masts and bigger ships need more crews to operate faster. Once you're dead in the waters, they'll circle you easily with one man on the cannon while the other wreaks havoc on your ship.
tl;dr: That Level 5 Reaper's Bones Emissary on a 2-crew Sloop isn't just for show. Stay far, FAR away.

What if its a 1 crew sloop with max reapers bones?
I've been searching for a naval combat sailing guide just like this for nearly 4 months now. Most of the stuff out there is really basic - stay out of their broadside, keep them in yours. Easier said than done in PvP. I've even messaged some of the more well known channels, suggesting an overhead view breakdown of what they do in various circumstances. This is exactly what I'd been looking for. I would love to see a deeper dive into this topic, as theres a real gap in the content out there where it comes to ship maneuvering during combat. Those top down diagrams are especially helpful. An easy subscribe!

Haha glad you liked the paint!! Hey I'm really glad you mentioned the staying calm and afloat because that is really what I am trying to teach at the end of the day! The biggest mistake people make isn't forgetting to repair and sinking, it's repairing when there is no rush and missing out on easy shots on ships whether it be pve or pvp! The quality of the voyages you get is based on your reputation level with whatever trading company the voyage is for. When starting out, I'd recommend doing things like skeleton forts, flameheart, learning to kill megalodons and skeleton sloops, and doing the little message in a bottle voyages, as they can spawn higher level loot than what you'd get at low levels. When you get high enough level to become an emissary, do that. Maxing out your emissary level during a session will give you a voyage that is guaranteed to have only high level loot. I used these strategies to get pirate legend within a week on a new account
I find this helpful as i am better with tucking then i am sailing, thanks now i can finally do skeleton ships without crashing into the nearest rock within 62 metres

My friends and I are noobs at this game and we kept getting destroyed by skeleton ships. This video helped a ton and my personal experience has proven that your tips are universal to ai and real players. The only times that we've lost to other players is when they board our ship but besides that your video has allowed us to win every ship battle against other players. I would like to add that whoever is on the wheel should be the one getting water out. Getting water out takes only about 10 seconds so that amount of time away from the wheel doesn't make a difference. The crew mates on the cannons should be on the cannons full time during a fight. Less people on the cannons means less firepower and less firepower means taking a loss
Very interesting and informative video. I actually started playing a couple weeks ago and had no idea how to properly manage my sloop especially in combat. I kinda hoped for more approaches but it is what it is. Keep up the good work!

With the proper crew, a Sloop is more than capable of taking on Brigs & Galleons for chump change. I'd say if you don't have any other choice, master the combat and ship maneuvres, and you're golden. Just...don't come near me then, yeah ?

Ship positioning in relation to the enemy is what i search.
There is a ton of material about boarding enemy ships and how to hit. But nothing talking about ship angle VS enemy dead angle and how to outmanoeuvre.
Playing for about 3 weeks and this video was what made the change.

lol i just solo slooped a reaper 5 brig with this. and the help of a keg... they had so much loot most of it sank but i sold all the expensive stuff and got like 100k gold and 180 doubloons

I only got this game last week and I've been having trouble doing emissary missions because of the Reapers sinking my sloop. I'll try this next time.
Yeah not all servers are the same so it might be worth it to hop around until you find a server with 0 reapers
This video is gamechanging for me, seriously. I panick A LOT when my ship gets hit (thats why i becaame a really efficient repair guy on my crew, Im bob the builder tier in repairs) but seeing now how long it takes it to sink gives me a whole different perspective for not leaving my other job (sailing, firing cannons, etc) as soon as i get a hit. The other day, some big peeps attempted to fight our small ship. We had a lotta loot, about 2 hours worth to get with just me and a friend of mine. I had the wheel and they had the cannons.
My game suddenly froze as we were heading straight towards an island. We crashed, one of our chests were crying, and all I could hear was screaming lmao. My game unfroze as soon as I died. Theeeeen we lost all our stuff.
Very painful to sit through it.

Is this as effective for the larger ships which are difficult to turn? Especially if there is an island nearby? A galleon might crash into that island before it could turn fully.
Well the concepts are the same but very hard to execute with most crews because getting everyone on the same page is difficult. Galleons can turn faster if you have your 3 other crew mats raising the sails or anchor turning but it is slow and hard to pull off and most of the time someone on the crew isn't paying attention to what needs to be done.

But how do you counter maneuver another player doing this exact tactic on you?
Well this depends on a lot of factors. Are they attacking you, or you attacking them? Or are you both trying to pvp and sink each other? If you are both going on the attack, then you will want to bait them into entering your broadside by using the wind and land/rocks to force them into it.
