Easily the best Joy Division cover I've ever heard. The emotion in Adrian's voice makes this powerful and haunting. It'll never be done better. R.I.P Mr. Borland.
Wonderful version....The Sound and Borland were such an immense talent. A jewel that some how slipped through the net and tumbled out of sight to the bottom of a bottomless musical ocean !
Love
Don t know if they met somewhere during their short and sad life., but surely in paradise have one more chance x singing together and laugh about us, ordinary people
Wow that's fucking amazing. He really made it his own and with so much passion. Nice one! When I covered it I sang it like Ian, just couldn't help it. This is truely original.
10000000000000000000000000000000% goosepimples - the only cover I heard for ages that does give justice to this masterpiece of music ... Adrian & Ian R.I.P. in deepest luv
A very nice subdued version of a magnificent song. Thanks Adrian for this great tribute cover (R.I.P.). Also thanks to ButterflyRoseX for sharing this.
I stay away from Joy Division covers; they usually do not do the band or the original song justice...Adrian's rendition is the exception that proves this rule...
Does anybody have the song 'gimme danger' . Adrian covered this song in 1994. It was part of a pub concert in holland. I had the song but cant play it anymore.
Alex, I think you refer to the pub concert at 'Cafe De WW' in Leiden. Though the date of that one is September 22nd 1988. The set list : Winter/Gimme danger/Desire/Beneath the big wheel/Hand of love/Light the sky/Pale blue eyes/No ethereal/Possession/Atmosphere (!!!). It's 34 minutes in total. It once was an FM radio broadcast. th-cam.com/video/UOTDia6Jof0/w-d-xo.html
I first met AB in early 1978 I think after I'd written him a letter saying that Julie Burchill's acerbic review of The Outsiders 'One To Infinity' EP in NME was unfair. We met up after that and had a drink in Wimbledon then went and listened to demo tape of 2nd Outsiders album 'Close Up' at his Dad's house. Check out 'HeyDay' on TH-cam which sounded incredibly powerful at the time. Anyway The Outsiders became The Sound and I reckon I saw them 46 times between 1978 and 1980. I was lucky to watch 1st Sound 'Jeopardy' album being recorded in studio around London Bridge area. Adrian was a great songwriter and a coruscating left handed guitarist, though perhaps his songs tended towards the formulaic. (always seems to be a guitar solo after 2 mins) The Sound were a criminally underrated band IMO, first 2 albums superb. My favourite song 'Winning'. They supported Echo and Bunnymen on 1980 UK tour which was a highlight. Also check out 'Courts or Wars' and 'Germany' and 'State of Emergency' from his Second Layer project (on TH-cam). AB came to an untimely and tragic end of course and is not the only person I know who has committed suicide when suffering from depression.
They said *Borland's* work, not necessarily *The Sound*, who by the way have been around since the late 70s. And *Adrian* has been performing since the mid-70s ;)
I already know that Warsaw was around that time. But this person was implying it would have been nice if they covered Borland's work. The fact that both guys were performing at small gigs could have been reason enough for them to have heard of Adrian Borland. It isn't about the fact that the rest of the world had to hear of him.
If you like the sound check out xiu xiu and black ceiling atm these are the bands/artists i am exploring this is music i wonder if William Burroughs were introduced to n took time to listen over his affinity for viennesse waltzes. You don't want to listen to that bill......"oh but I do" he said once. I'm a Burroughsian boy. A Johnson living on the breadline in the south coast of England living in an estate controlled by my slaves" a report from the bunker in an interview conducted n recorded by Susan sontag. R.i.p WSB. THANKS FOR LISTENING GUYS N GIRLS. all hail. Grazie.
Finally an original cover! The best cover I've ever heard! I love his voice. Check out my cover of love will tear us apart and of The Sound if you want to.
Did you knew Ian Curtis (lead singer of Joy Division) died in 1980? Before The Sound were actually known. How could they made a cover of The Sound if the disintegrated before The Sound?
How ironic... i mean... in my opinion this is still a mejestic piece of art from the hands of Joy Division... but he makes kind of a admiration act to them and it never was done the other way around... :S Has Joy Division ever even mentioned or covered ANY of the Borlands work? I don´t think so... or at least don´t remember... :S
So was Joy Division when they were called Warsaw. They were contemporaries, and while Joy Division became instantly famous after Ian's dead, The Sound never achieved that level of influence and/or fame. Which is a pitty really. They were the only band who could hold a candle to JD.
Easily the best Joy Division cover I've ever heard. The emotion in Adrian's voice makes this powerful and haunting. It'll never be done better. R.I.P Mr. Borland.
Bet Adrian & Ian are friends in heaven. 🎸 !
RIP Adrian Borland
RIP Ian Curtis
Just heard this cover for the first time, stunning.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...I regret that I cannot meet such beautiful people like Adrian in this horrible world
right Adrian was a famous singer in solo or with the sound ..
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful words...
Ewa F But we you met him here ;)
this breaks my heart...tears run..
The best cover I've heard so far. Adrian Borland: gone too soon!
Meravigliosa...forse migliore dell'originale.
Still here crying for you, for ever by your side Adrian ❤
His voice is honestly much better for suited for this song.
Wonderful version....The Sound and Borland were such an immense talent. A jewel that some how slipped through the net and tumbled out of sight to the bottom of a bottomless musical ocean !

Ian and Adrian, from two of my most beloved bands. Two amazing artists who died by violent suicides. RIP.
Questa non è una cover. Grazie Adrian! Immenso.

Adrian put his own emotions to this song, so authentic and powerful performance.
Isn't it good to know memories exist and that decency was recorded like this man r.i.p forever mate
yes :)
Love this cover and the sadness of his voice
Finally an original cover, not a fucking useless copy. Borland didn't have the same fortune of the Curtis fellow, even after his death
True,
Though in terms of music they sound different but at least as good and unpredictable, such a heavy music.
You are most welcome...glad to have the opportunity to share this one with his fans and friends....
`thanks for the docu, seen it in den haag.(Grauzone)
Thanks Ronald

Very interesting. Any more little stories from that era? Always nice to hear some facts from people that lived them first hand.
