I don't know why, but this is the only video where I realized that Yurio is actually still a teenager. Like, I know he's 15, but I never thought about it while watching the show or other videos.
I don't know what sort of personality Victor had as a teen (he may have always been calm, one with the music, and full of flow), but Yuri makes me think that he's like Vitya's second coming. The only difference is that Yuri's grace is more of a beautiful aggression, intense and angry, but breathtaking. I could be wrong, but it seems like Victor has always been more of a peaceful presence on the ice, like skating came easy to him, it was a natural space where he could just be his true self. I'm dying to prove or disprove the same when the movie comes out. I love that Victor is the best male figure skater in the series, but seeing his journey to the top would give more depth to his character. Not that Victor isn't capable of it (he's collected all the necessary accolades and then some), but I don't think figure skating is something one can just up and master (not unless that is exactly the case with him). There has to be a story there, a reason to want the ice, a reason to keep pushing for excellence, and I can't wait for Victor to show up what it took to climb to the top. Sometimes all we see is just the finished product, and that holds our attention, not knowing that the enterity of the ascent is much more awe inspiring. I think Victor knows that Yuri has it is him to be the best--he reminds him of himself at that age maybe. If there ever was a determined, competitive Victor of fifteen years old, I would love to see it. I think that's how he connects with our ice blond.

I've never seen this anime before today and I'm already swept away by it. It's not just the looks of the characters but the way the animator has captured the beauty, strength and essence of male figure skaters. This is breathtaking and reminds me of all the hours I spent watching figure skating in my youth, especially people like Toller Cranston, Brian Boitano and Christopher Dean. They displayed masculine pulchritude that could be matched with power, strength, artistry and grace in an art form designed to show off all those qualities.
I think he does, but meanwhile competitions he has free? Or maybe he stopped going to school, but I can't imagine that, because if he would do that he wouldn't have anything for his life if he gets seriously hurt during a competition and can't skate anymore. So, I guess he's still going to school...
