  • Founding member/drummer/songwriter of Australian Crawl, Bill McDonough spoke to Peter 'Grubby' Stubbs on the 'Weekend Break' program on 3AW (Melbourne, Australia).
    They discussed Bill's new book, 'Sons Of Beaches', his early life, career and relationship with his late brother Guy McDonough who at the height of the band's fame nearly forty years ago, tragically passed away. The interview aired on Sunday 12th November, 2023.

    Family, fame and tragedy, the story of Australian Crawl’s Bill and Guy McDonough.
    Founded in 1978, Australian Crawl has sold over 2 million records and been awarded some of Australia’s highest music accolades, including an induction to the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1996.
    This is the true story of two brothers, Bill and Guy McDonough and how their lives together lead them to success at the top of the music charts. This is a warts and all music memoir it’s about the good times and the bad, and how the trappings of fame ultimately lead to Guy’s tragic death in 1984.
    It’s an extraordinary tale of adventure and achievement and how two close knit brothers were part of a music legacy that lives on today, over 40 years after the band’s foundation.
    About the Author
    Bill McDonough, along with his brother Guy McDonough, was a member of the iconic rock band Australian Crawl. Bill played drums and composed several of the band's most memorable hits including Downhearted and Shutdown.
    Bill has also worked as a Record Producer, jingle writer and music industry consultant.

    Great interview with Bill!
    Bill’s book ‘Sons of Beaches’ is absolutely awesome; such a riveting read about his and Guy’s adventures! Thank you Bill for sharing yours and Guy’s story, you are two Australian legends!!! Your music was epic and will continue to live on!!!👌🏼🌟🌟

      Besides Guy and Brad’s all-too-soon passing, Simon Binks had a serious car accident and Mark Grieg (Guy’s replacement) also suffered a broken neck from an accident.
      If Australian Crawl aren’t this country’s most unfortunate band, I don’t know who would be.

    Fantastic interview, love these stories... I remember staying in Lorne camping with our trail bikes, my mate keeped playing Oh no..he taught me bits and pieces on his acoustic guitar...🤣... Just good times.... 🇦🇺🏊.....
