Exactly! Thorne and Brooke are already becoming uninteresting, so the writers are in a hurry to get them married before it becomes too obvious that they don't actually work as a couple. It's like their entire relationship has been based on the desire to "win" - to prove a point, to overcome the obstacles, to get everyone else to accept their relationship. They've been so busy doing this that they haven't noticed that they don't actually _have_ a relationship.

Brooke's relationships are all empty, hollow, shallow and have no Substance, depth and no connection between her and whoever she is with and tries to sell again the bs about everlasting destiny and love. All her relationships are all about only "winning" over someone or against someone, once that has happened or she has the men away from his wife/finance or whoever she realizes there is absolutely nothing there and their are already bored with each other.
I’ll admit that seeing Deacon play white-trash Hercule Poirot, gathering everyone in the library for the big reveal, was entertaining. On a more serious level, watching him trash *everyone* makes you realize how fragile his ego is and how this is his way of getting his power back.
*Brooke's Narrative is Winning* The whole scene with Thorne, Brooke and the sorrowful background music is clearly meant to make us (and Bridget) feel like Thorne and Brooke are star-crossed lovers who deserve to be happy together. Suddenly they are saying things like "I just want you to be happy, even if it is with someone else", "we love each other, but if it's not meant to be we have to accept that", and appear willing to give each other up as a kind of sacrifice. Now, in a way this is nothing new, because this is how they have _always_ thought of themselves. The difference is that now, this narrative is convincing _Bridget,_ and this is a sign that the viewer too should be convinced. I have described from the beginning of the storyline how there are two parallel narratives. But from now in, there is only one narrative - Brooke's point of view. And we see everything in the B&B world starting to fall into place around that narrative.

*Deacon Puts On a Show* In this episode, Deacon takes center stage - literally - as a Storyteller, almost breaking the fourth wall and creating a Brechtian "Verfremdung effect" by commenting on the ridicuIousness of the plot and humorously narrating it to the viewer. He is mocking all the characters who have tried to negotiate with him, showing them how none of their strategies actually worked (neither Sally's deals, Stephanie's hugs, nor Eric's money will persuade him). He shows the Forresters and the Spectras that he has complete control, and that the outcome of the plot will be decided by him alone. And all this is _entertaining!_ Deacon as a diabolical auctioneer (or circus ringmaster) is clearly in his element. He enjoys holding the fate of these two families in his hand, because they are the ones who tried to control him. In a way, we can root for him because he didn't create this situation - they did (especially Rick). It's _funny_ to see the other characters being ridicuIed like this, because they actually deserve it, and deep down, they know it. All of them realize that it's not really IegaI to buy a baby, and yet they are all trying to do just that.
