  • This has been a product that caught my attention last year and now that winter is on the way to being over, I went ahead and purchased it and in this episode we are going to take a look at it and I’ll explain how I plan to use it.
This is a product from OneTigris and it is the 2 person Screen Tent.
Ever since I saw this product, in my mind I have been coming up with ideas on how I would use it. With a tarp makes the most sense for the area that I live at; with a tarp this could make up a fairly lightweight setup with the protection and versatility of the tarp

Went camping with some friends and I brought a similar bug tent. I was the only one who 1. had a good night's sleep, 2. wasn;t totally bitten all over by mosquitos 😄😄😄
This inner seems the right one to have when you only go camping together, but for one person - it is huge indeed!

There's one product of them that i wasn't overly happy with, namely the OneTigris Kompound hammock. The materials and manufacturing are good, but the hammock is too short and narrow to be comfortable. I never managed to get used to it.

@@robintemmink2143probably designed with the typical Asian in mind. They tend to be smaller framed than the average North American/European.

@@Nunyabizn3ss Agreed. However, since even well-known hammock expert Derek Hansen has publicly criticized this hammock for its small size, one might perhaps expect the company to adapt to its growing Western market. Still, OneTigris haven't done so. This contrary to certain other Chinese brands, like OneWind, Naturehike, Flame's Creed and others that have started to catch on to Western standards ... and Western prices too, I might add. ;-)

I have both of these single & double. Though I use the single more than the double. Single is quite abit smaller for sure and used primarily with onewind poncho. It's use for stealth camping.. when comfort is not needed.

I have the OneTigris Mesh Tent with 3000 Waterproof Bathtub Floor, Ultralight 1 version. I have used both with a DD Tarp and as an inner for a traditional canvas a framed tent. The Tarp and OneT combo is great for Summer camping in the UK. The advantages of a tent + the flexibility of a tarp set up / without the restrictions of tent. My only caution would be if your taller than 6'2" it may not be for you. OneT rarely make things in Extra Long

So I call it "bush camping". U guys r the best. Thanx for all the lessons u both have taught me over these years. Keep u and ur family in my prayers. U give so much of ur selves, it should b a crime but thank God it's not. You're the best and thanx for all u do for our community.

I live in NorCal (actual NorCal not the Bay Area). During the late spring to early fall we get almost no rain and the night time temps can be in the 80s during summer. This would be an excellent late spring to early fall option with just a light tarp more for shade purposes than anything or under tree cover in the shade. Decent price as well. Hope it is durable.

I use a different companies mesh A-frame tent and their 10'x10' ultralight tarp. Together they weigh in at a little over two pounds. A 12' x 12' tarp would be better. The "A" frame ends are vulnerable in rainy and windy situations. I use my rain poncho to cover the more exposed end. The One Tigris is larger than mine, so a bigger tarp would be really helpful.

As you have seen from my comments over the years, I am a huge fan of the A frame trail tent. It is a 5 foot by 7 foot A frame. Works like a champ for backpacking. Scouts use them. Armies have used them. But I really like this set up because if you DO NOT need shelter from the rain that night, you STILL get the bug protection... for the floor and for the air. That one is a little tall and not really that wide. I would love to see a 6 foot wide by 7 foot long A frame that stands above 40 inches. There is a tent somewhat similar to that size which is made by Ozark Trail. Keeping da bugs out is a PRIMARY PURPOSE of a good tent. Which is why a tarp ain't ever gonna cut it for me. A tarp is a great ADDITION to a tent; it is not a REPLACEMENT. I like that ya found something ya like to use. If it can not keep the bugs out, I ain't camping with it.

Definitely a true 2 person tent, 30 inches wide per person is going to be fine for most couples. Can I make a suggestion? Run a good taut ridge line to hold it up and lose the poles giving all the doors room, and at the same time giving you a place to drape a tarp over and stake it out for protection. To avoid sagging Just get a really tight vertical pitch so when you pull and stake the tarp down it goes back to normal pitch.

I picked up this shelter for a backcountry wildlife photography excursion in Northern Ontario and it was really useful.
I had been working up there the week before and the flies were biblical in proportion - horseflies, deerflies, stable flies, black flies in relentless swarms around us. At night, mosquitoes were in the thousands around each of us, biting us through our chairs. When the pick-up boat came to get us, we were sitting in the lake in our clothes and bug suits on our chairs up to our chests in 13 C water to get relief. Our boat driver found it pretty entertaining 😎.
So last week, I brought this shelter and it worked pretty well - easy to set up and we put a tarp over it for the rain. We put our camp chairs in it and used it as an equipment shed. It was a relief in the heat to be able to shuck hot clothes and have some peace to deal with our camera gear and recharge power packs.
There was room for one person to work with their gear or two people to sit and eat like human beings (eating through a bug suit ain’t pretty 😳).
The only thing I’d change is to make it about 6” higher - our heads tended to lean against the mesh and the skitters immediately started stabbing us.
But, all in all, pretty effective and worth the spend.

i have both.. my first was the one person mesh.. my son use it now while i use the 2person mesh.. and yes, you need a huge fly / tarp to cover it against the elements.. since we are in the Philippines, where it's always humid at camp, this is better than those seasoned tents.. when me and son camps, we put them side by side.. fronting each other with enough space to walk out of with my 20×15 ft tarp on top.. it's either plow point or A frame setup both protecting us from all elements bugs included.. since it is a mesh, ventilation is not an issue.. but you'll definitely need a tarp over it..

I have owned this exact model for little over a year now and I love it. It's very versatile. I can use it with a tarp, string it between trees or use my elephant poles, or with trekking poles. I've pitched this in a field on a nice evening for stargazing. Whenever I don't hammock camp, I'm using this with my 12' tarp. I pitch with a tyvek footprint, and the base have never failed on me. The zippers are great. The doors are designed so they don't drag on the floor when you use them. In my opinion, this is a must-have product for anyone who loves the outdoors.

  • @clifbradley
    @clifbradley 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I think it looks cool. Here in Florida during the summer, the mosquitoes are horrendous as you know. But airflow is so important since even at night it's around 80° or more. With that size though, you could put a portable power bank with a fan or even an AC unit in there so you don't sweat to death. But with it being open mesh, you probably wouldn't have to do that. That was my problem camping as a kid too. The heat inside the tent, even breathable ones was suffocating.

Another camping C.C. on TH-cam twigged me onto something like this last year or so, so I had purchased a smaller version from Onewind. Surprised this costs about the same, but easily can fit 2 people, or one person with a lot of free space. I'll have to get one, so I have more choices.

I have a couple OneTigris shelters, and I do like them. One complaint I do have is that their tent bags are crap. They just fall apart. They need to do a better job on the carrying sacks. I bought a couple zippered ALPS tent bags on Amazon and they work great.

I have this for canoe trips in northern Ontario. During the spring the black flies are big and nasty enough to carry off small animals. I set this up on a ridge line under my large hammock tarp: I can sleep in it at night and fit my camp chair inside during the day for bug relief. For canoeing the weight isn't as critical as when backpacking. However using it dual purpose I avoid having to carry a tent and separate bug shelter.

I've had this mesh inner in stand-by list for a while now... After seeing this video pop up, I pulled the trigger immediately because i KNOW it will sell out fast! I plan ti use it inside my OneTigris Homestead hot tent this spring/summer/fall to keep the bugs out of my gear and leave the main flap up. I debated between this one and the half-size one. I figure i can fold this a bit if needed to not take up too much room in tent, or use it under a tarp for lighter campsites.
Great review as usual! Will update with my experiences once this Wisconsin weather warms up enough to camp in comfort again! 😎

This one may be a little bigger and cost a bit more than the one man version but you lose the two end doors on the one man style.
I think keeping those is worth the extra weight and needing a slightly larger tarp.
Really like the ability or design of this to work well using a ridgeline between two trees and not needing any poles for set up.
Also the adjustable lower stake out straps again a very well thought out addition and this is punching way above its weight class in design and usability.

Damnit, I just bought all of the components to make exactly this, minus the bathtub floor. I might as well just buy this now. Haha, oh well... Thanks for letting us know, Luke. Keep 'em coming! ;)

Similar to our homegrown Alton brand who make an excellent 1 man bug tent that has plenty of room for gear as well.

That would be great to use in a hammock hot tent wouldn't need poles just run the lines out and attach them to the trees to hold it up and One Tigris makes a hammock hot tent and it would make it where you can use the tent without the hammock and stay bug free and dry.

Looks good Luke I might get that for the summertime put under my tarp. Just got back from doing an overnighter in New Jersey. We got 10 inches of snow and I use the Stella from one Tigris. Had a great time. Thanks for the recommendation Luke.

Onetigris recently released an insulated sleeping pad that you should review! I havent seen anything about it online but it is called the obsidian sleeping pad and claims to be R5.2 for only $80. Seems like a steal considering the company’s good rep for quality.

This is very interesting product. But as you said you need a very large tarp. More interested in the one person version. Yes please do a review of that bug tent. Thanks 😃

I have the 1 person tipi version of this mesh tent. I don't find it large for a 1 person I think it's perfect. It's a palace compared to the military bugnet system. I'd say it's large when packed tho for a mesh inner alone. But not a problem. It's just when I first got it I was like oh wow this is the size of a 1 person tent when packed. It's fine tho because that's with guy lined and poles so all I need is the tarp so it's like a one person tent with a tarp in essence if you packed em in same.stuff sack. If you get the two person tho I would use the tarp I have already which is the DD 3.5x3.5 meter version. It's a lil bigger than 11 feet square. That tarp is also great for a tarp with a door pitch using a hammock. Anyways, Those mesh inners used to go by different names. They used to be called mesh tent inner then 01 02 03.. were the designations for the 3 styles. I think the tipi is the most versatile because I can still sit up in it and use it with a plow point or a hexamid tarp pitch which wouldn't be possible with those symmetric versions . That said I've been eyeing the 2 person mesh tent for a while because the quality is excellent on these. The floor and guy out design is perfect. Keeps the corners perpendicular and taut. Anyways as usual tho soon as Luke reviews something it's gone off Amazon lol. The 2 person is currently unavailable 😅. I wouldn't expect it any other way. Anyways next time it's in if they don't jack the price up because of the interest this video generates imma buy one. I suspect tho it will be $89+ not $60 next time.😢 This is the only downside to Luke's agenda free utopia. They end up exploiting his sales and fans imo because he does generate a spike in sales for them and they know this and respond accordingly. It's sad. I don't have an answer to that problem tho so hopefully one Tigris doesn't do this or perhaps if Luke, if he has contacts there, can point out to them that ppl notice this greedy behavior and it's a turn off. I won't buy that two person version if they hike up the price, it's been $60-69 for 2 years. It's a great product but a huge part of what makes it great is the quality to COST ratio. These companies get tied up on greed when a product's sales spikes and in the long run it ruins that product's longevity on the market because ppl like me lose interest when you hike up pricing and remove it from the watch list. I have so many things on my wish list here or watchlist on ebay or bookmarked online that I will one day buy, however many I don't end up buying because the sorta thing I'm talking about happens when I'm rdy to pull the trigger

I will be very interested in following your use and reviews of this mesh tent. I actually bought this two years ago to use w one of my existing 10x10 tarps bc it seemed like a great product w the third door. I always struggled w whether or not it would pair up w the warbonnet superfly “on the ground” bc of the extra protection the tarp doors would provide. I didn’t get the superfly but it’s always on my radar for a light weatherproof backpacking setup. I had intentionally researched videos w tarp and mesh tent use, including one of yours from the rockies overnight in Colorado? When you used a tarp and mesh tent setup. I have a thing that I want to be able to see out of all my tents and this type if setup seems ideal in 2 seasons. Unfortunately I have not yet gone out in conditions that would be useful for this Onetigris mesh tent. I will be very interested to see a setup using a tree along w the tarp and whatever you decide to experiment with. Thx for bringing another interesting Onetigris product demo. I learn a lot from your gear videos.

It looks pretty cool. How would it do with your bed setup the one that goes off the floor would you have to put down something so it wouldn't puncture the floor. I've been wondering about that with a lot of the tents. Because I can't get down that far anymore. I'm 68 b69 this year. Thank you for doing what you doing it is highly appreciated. Take care stay safe God bless and I wish I could have some of the things that you show so I can pass them on to my niece and hers of the kids and her new fiance. Well like I said you and Susie Lucas and your daughter I'm sorry I forgot her name stay safe stay healthy. Pray for you is always
