    When I was homeless, I lived in a little wooden shack built from recycled pallet wood and scrap from a furniture building factory up the road from the camp. It was about the size of this glorious camper and let me tell ya, its not hard to live in a small space! I had a old middle console from a car next to my bed which was a crib mattress with a large couch cushion all zipped up in a old sleeping bag and sewn shut at the top...i had taped three milk crates together long ways to form storage for clothes and a old coffee table for my "kitchen " I used a of corrugated metal i hammered nails through to make holes..then i placed that on the Cinder block in the middle of the table with a tuna can filled with rolled cardboard covered in recycled wax to make a burner...i used a little toy stock pan to make coffee and tea and a little cast iron skillet to make food. These were hung on the wall after being washed and the cabinet on the coffee table was food storage as was one of the open ends. I kept the one by my door open though as that would be where I stored my shoes. I loved my little " hobbit house" and everyone that came to the camp was amazed how a big lug like me could live so comfortably in such a tiny space. Honestly, I miss that little hut a lot! It was the first place I truly felt was home

      I think everyone should have a homelessness humbling experience maybe not to this degree but they should experience independence like you did God bless you!

      @@IAMGWH1 it is definitely a humbling experience, and it taught me just how strong I really could be, resourceful as well. I spent 2 years in that little shake, in a camp that became home, with camp mates that became family. We were a village on the fringe of society that survived on our wits and spite lol. Thank you for your blessing!

      I wish the majority of homeless were like this tho, in my area a homeless person would not be willing to do the things you did, they rely on charity and never themselves in any way whatsoever. And the few who ARE willing to be creative get punished by nosy Karens because they feel like the very sight of a shelter attached to a bike mares the image of a geographic location.

    • @tanktheunstoppable7263
      @tanktheunstoppable7263 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@SteveVon7 I was lucky because there was a set of 4 homeless camps where I lived, so we kept each other safe and worked together like a little village. Everyone was proud of their little hut, or sheltered tent. It wasn't much,but it was ours and it was home. Our camp even built a outdoor shower hut! We had a camp kitchen....we had a storage tent with supplies to help out not just people in our camp but the other camps too....we all worked together to help each other. A program was in done to shut the camps down because of a new bridge being built..the first thing people would see coming into the city would have been us. The mayor didn't want that so a program was done. Now for the record, everyone involved tried really hard to make it work. But, in the end out of 60 people, 5 died....and 57 ended up back on the streets..this time with no camps to help...the main issue was everyone was expected to enter a already strained workforce. Some of the people I was in camp with hadn't worked in 10+ years, were battling addiction, battling mental health issues, and were thrown face first into trying to deal with all of that and thrive. Of course it failed! No assistance was given for those issues. And so.....the city destroyed the area known as Tent City because it looked bad on the city. They didn't really care about the survival of the residents that called it home. Everyone involved with the failed program was fired...and those that tried so hard to make it work...it was all for nothing. I left the city and moved on and am doing fine...but I will always wonder about the others

    I've worked in the large format printing industry for 18 years and my advice to anyone interested in making one of these, contact your local large format printer and ask them if they have any scraps. Unfortunately the industry is very very wasteful and there are often many odd shaped drop pieces that too often end up in the dumpster because they are difficult to recycle properly. You can score all kinds of amazing materials by just asking. Coroplast, acrylic, canvas, vinyl ect. It never hurts to ask. Also I've gone to foam manufacturers to score their drops as well when I was working on a costume project. They often have tons scrap pieces they will gladly let you have.

    Cover the trailer in flexable solar panels and tow it across the country with an electric bike.With 500watts of solar power one could travel all day on a sunny day off the solar power alone as it would take no more then 300 watts to cruise at 15 mph and the remainder go towards charging the battery for those times when it's not so sunny lol.

      To clarify for those in the comments section: The US defines "homeless" as even those who live with others in a home they don't own. Most people put down "Homeless" when writing up tax forms and/or benefits forms to be able to claim said benefits. They're not truly homeless.
      This leaves a question of how many people are truly homeless, as in sleeping out in the streets every night.

      Jake Sangria, wrong. No one is promised tomorrow. Save your life until the end and I’ll show you a fool.
      It’s great that you need the space for the things that make you happy, no one is saying they’re against that, especially me. I’m all for people living there lives the way they see fit. Most people, however, are stuck in the corporate grind and miss the opportunities laid out before them because they have to pay for all of those things you mentioned - it’s a trap.
      When you live with less, you become free. It’s what some people would call “the new rich.”

    the largest sized dog houses available are also a great option. just need insulation inside. you can connect them, cut them and put them together, etc. worked well for me hiking in the winter. i make shelters along my most traveled routes and the dog houses have been extremely durable. even just one to lay down in, I'm 5'8 with enough room for my pack and boots inside.

Its a great idea for some people, for some situations, for some geographic locations. Focus on the positives..where it might work, where it might be useful, where it might be fun...if it won't work for you, that's fine, then go do your own thing and shut the hell up. • @Voysh2Voysh69
      @Voysh2Voysh69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wretch Gunk I’m not suggesting that gas is superior. I’m speaking solely from the perspective of being in a homeless situation, living near small towns or the far outskirts of a big city. In that particular situation, I’d MUCH rather have a moped & utilize gasoline over solar power. I could easily make the money for the moped/gas through raking leaves, shoveling snow, mowing grass, scrapping metal, etc etc.

    • @5688gamble
      @5688gamble 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wretch Gunk You could connect a small dynamo to one, or both, of the trailers axles and use them to charge one or two car batteries as you pedal, use for lighting, charging mobile devices, etc, could have solar panels to keep it ticking over when you are stationary for a little while, it could be a great home away from home, could have the batteries under the floor in the center, even add some extra storage under there have lift up flap for access, I'd have great fun planning everything out!

      I've had problems with black zips. Yes, the major seams were covered, so that should help. Perhaps the spray paint will help too. Better than having to regularly spray with Armor All or other such (808?) like I should do with my Royalex canoe. But overall, it doesn't look like to sturdiest construction. That's the trade-off for light and inexpensive. Cool idea still.

    I did an 880 mile bike ride many years ago and camped overnight in safe places by the woods. Wouldn't you know it, my final night I slept one foot away from a fire ant hill. I woke up and put my right foot directly on them as I began dressing for my last 175 mile day. Those ants covered my foot and ankle, and put a big chomp, all at once... My foot swelled so I could not wear my riding shoe, I wore my flip flop for the first 50 miles. At 10 a.m I put my riding shoe back on and completed my ride by 4 p.m. I intended to ride from the west coast of the USA to the east coast the next year but life happened.
    I sure could be used one of these bike campers in those days. Great!

      It's pathetic that so many people still immediately equate extra wait with a sedentary lifestyle or even blame that for the excess weight. It's long been established that there are a variety of medical issues which can cause weight gain. In fact, there are individuals who are more fit than most people commenting on this video, running marathons regularly, and yet their weight never goes below a certain leve; a weight which some would immediately criticize.
