Edit: I realised the King prompt also lets you read royal stuff annnnd I also forgot I need to read a Stormlight novella this month so I am now officially swapping to that - all worked out 😂🥰💖
Also seems like community card is a prompt but not the cards from your shelf so I'm just here silly goofy don't mind me - it's all fine we just play like we play 😂
In that case, my favorite (short) Stephen King is Carrie 😂
(I’m far from a Stephen King connoisseur though, just FYI)
im also reading a stormlight novella for the readathon! (dawnshard)
If you ever want to pick up a SK novel, a lot of people recommend reading Misery. I personally would suggest Salem's Lot (as it is vampires), but if you want to challenge yourself. Read The Tommyknockers, though not considered his best work, it is a good dabble into Sci-Fi. I have read most of his works and this was the one that really did freak me out.
“Bingo……..bitch” made me choke on my water 😂😂😂
Also Becca said you can interpret the “Stephen King” prompt as any book with a royal word in the title or any book that has royalty or a court setting!
Definitely either The Shining or Pet Semetary. You can't go wrong with those!
Thank you for feeding us, Mother 💜
I laughed so hard at all your facial expressions this episode - the dice also chose chaos for me the other day and I got three doubles in a row 🤦♀
For Stephen King try The Long Walk. It was originally part of a short story collection but now it’s being published separately as a novel. It’s dystopian and more of a psychological story than horror.
"Pet Sematary" or "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" 😊
I love Uzumaki so much. Its maybe not quite what you're expecting based on the description you gave but its a great and wild time.
King Recommendation: The Body (it's a novella and was adapted into the movie Stand by Me)
For King - Pet Sematary is a good starter! The audiobook is read by Michael C Hall and I highly recommend. I also think Carrie is a good place to start. Misery would also be good as well !! He’s got a few other shorter reads - The Mist, Later, Joyland
Ooh okay, I'm not a Stephen King fanatic, but I think you would like Carrie, The Dead Zone, or Salem's Lot. Probably in that order. Great TBR! Almost makes me want to play. 😅 Just need to make a board, cards, etc etc 😂
For the Stephen King prompt.. It can also be a royal book 📗 as well
Pet Sematary is the best King book I’ve read 🥰
The Shinning is my favourite but Pet Cemetery is also really good.
I don't think you have to read a King novel. I think the prompt also accounts for books with royalty ('king').
should I go to bed? Yes. Am I watching this first? Also yes!
RIP
🪦
Maybe Revival
I think G would like Revival the best!
Thanks for sharing your TBR! Because you mentioned it, I read Kill Joy and loved it, so I'm adding the A Girl's Guide to Murder to my TBR!
Ah yay hope you’ll love them!
Eve Brown is my favorite of the sisters. I need to reread that book!
The Slippy dice came to cause chaos lol also the stephen king prompt could also be a book with a royal theme or features royalty
Later, Carrie and Joyland are very short books, and audiobooks, and good entries to the author
If you are gonna go with King I would def say try his first one Carrie. Is not super long and easier to get into I think. Misery is good too.
ooohhh i also have Uzumaki on my tbr 😁 fingers crossed we both like it!
i hope so!
For Stephen King irecommand four past midnight, any short story, is interesting and shorter as a full novel and also the short story collection "full dark,no stars" any short story
“The girl who loved Tom Gordon” by Stephen King is a short but a good book. Also "Carrie".
I have not read insomnia but it is by the same author as behind her eyes and that is my favorite thriller purely because of the plot twist so I’m very intrigued by this one
Stephen King: small book and set mainly in my hometown, Revival. It is a play on Frankenstein which is good for the season
Have a good month. Best of luck with all your reads. The only Stephen King book I have been able to read and somewhat enjoy was 'Salem's Lot.
I have read only one Stephen King book but I think you might like it. It's called The Running Man, it's a dystopian horror novel, reality TV+big brother elements, and it's pretty short - around 200 pages and i think it had a bit of Dark Matter vibes in the horror/thriller elements
i’ve read that one too and remember liking it! still a chonker though 🥲
So many doubles! Looks like a great TBT though. Shadow cabinet is one of my favourite reads of this year
The classic Stephen King would be It that actually fits in spooky October but I haven't read it yet. The stand is really good but it's a long story.
I had the same problem with the doubles! 3 doubles, when I only wanted to start with 2 rolls in the first place. Lol. 🫠
I loved shadow cabinet! I don’t plan on reading Stephen King so I don’t have a rec for that.
Daaaaang your dice are MEAN. 😆 For a short Stephen King, I'd recommend Cycle of the Werewolf (short stories, with illustrations, only 127 pages) or The Running Man (under his pen name) which is more scifi/dystopian and only 219 pages. Good luck!
"there is other numbers you know"🤣 Love me a good tbr video and this is extra fun
Yes, The Jasad Heir is an amazing book!!
I love Junji Ito, hope you enjoy his work! Most of his books are actually short story collections but if you're looking for scifi I'd recommend Hellstar Remina (or sometimes it's just called Remina)
Ooh thanks so much!
Best of luck with reading everything! ❤🎉
I will be roling as I go. First one was the witches prompt and will read The dream catcher by Abi Elphinstone for that (middle grady spooky fantasy)
I recommend fairy tale. It is slightly chonky but so worth it. My sister listened to the audio and liked it too
I started with Eyes of the Dragon. It's a shorter book from Stephen King and it's also more on the fantasy side. 100% recommend the audiobook. The narrator is 🔥🔥🔥
11/23/63 is also a chonker but the audiobook is good plus it contains time travel! Or could you just read one short story from a collection. There’s the Shawshank and Stand by Me film inspiration stories
love the candy falling😍
Great video! I would love to know where you got those TBR Tarot cards?! 😮
I adored Insomnia when I read it last year. Couldn’t put it down. Hope you like it!
Carrie is my fave Stephen King and it’s short
For Stephen king I would go with Carrie - it’s good and really short
Yaz, the shadow cabinet is so fun. The board was very mean to you though 🥲
The Colorado Kid is around 200pgs for Stephen King
I would like to recommend Steven King's "On writing". It is not traditional King, but more memoir like and I think interesting as a peak of his craft. Super excited for this TBR, btw.
Good luck with your reading this month!
Hi!
I think you will love Misery from Stephen King.
Kiss
Read Stephen King's The Long Walk. It's one of my favorites and I remember it being pretty short so I dont think it would be hard to get through.
If you plan to read King, you should give Misery a try.
I know you have dropped you SK book for the novella but if you ever want to dip your toes in King’s works I recommend the Outsider. I hate horrors (I’m scared of them) and this one is definitely more of a thriller/mystery than a horror and the intrigue is super high.
I’m getting so many good recommendations here I may become a King girl 😂❤️
Fairy Tale might be good for you
I read an ARC of Insomnia last year. It taught me that psychological thrillers arent really for me -- its pace was just off for me. But I also think it's really well written with unexpected plot twists. If you can like this kind of thriller, I think it's an excellent one.
I think you might like ‘the Outsider’ from Stephen King. It’s a bit different from his usual books, and a pretty quick read!
You do "have" to read the Bill Hodges trilogy before that book though
@@arobinreads not at all, I read the Outsider first and it didn’t take anything away from the plot or made anything hard to understand imo
@@ShaniFoxalmost all of his books can be read as standalone. however, if you want the full experience, its very satisfying to research the order for specific books/cycles. i promise, you get so much more payoff!
Thanks for an entertaining video again, G! I see in the comments that you've swapped the Stephen King prompt, so this comment might no longer be relevant to you, but there's some good stuff amongst Stephen King's extensive (and also very uneven) bibliography. Since you like sci-fi, The Dead Zone and 11/22/63 would be recommendations that I think would fit your tastes. I'd also recommend The Shining, Misery and Carrie - they're all well worth a read (or a watch if you can be tempted to look into any movie adaptations). Happy reading!
I didn't know The Ex Hex has Gilmore Girls vibes! I'm suddenly very interested ❤
i've heard this but cannot say how true it is yet! haha
I’m very interested in reading Insomnia. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it 🎃
Fun to see different people's games, but this one seems cursed 😅
ALL THOSE 6s G is using loaded dice!!
As someone who reads a lot of Stephen King, a King book that would be a great for a fantasy reader would be Elevation its a short novella about a guy who keeps losing weight and starts to float,it has social commentary elements and a supernatural twist (of course it is a King book).
Oooh that premise sounds nice!
@BookRoast it was a great read. I think you'd really like it too. 😊
this had me laughing so much.. ‘the bastard’ ‘yeeeeet’ 🫣😂
Becca said we can read a royalty or king book for the Stephen King slot. It doesn't have to be one of his books.
My favorite Stephen King book is Pet Semetary, but I haven't read many of his work
Stephen King has a novella called Elevation if you want something short! It has less than 150 pages 😊
I'm in a Stephen King discord and Elevation is his most-hated book, lol
This was so fun!! Good luck with your stack but it looks exciting!
How do you get BOTM in the UK?
love the outfit already
For Stephen King you could read his non fiction On Writing.
There is no such thing as a good Stephen King book that is short :) I would recommend Pet Semetary since the season for it is now. Misery is a good one too if you want a horror book. Since they were written long ago they are not as "horror-y" as books nowdays. And his books are easy to read and get into so the size doesn't matter really. (I read It in 2-3 days)
♥️📚♥️ Stephen King "The Eyes of the Dragon". 😘
Hope you enjoy all the books you've chosen! Looks like some good ones. 🙂
You may like the books Misery or Carrie by Stephen King lol those are the only two books I own by him
Is the board ever not chaotic? 😂
Not in my experience 😂
I also have never read any Stephen King nor do I own any 😀 but I hope you enjoy Shadow Cabinet 👀👀👀
Misery is sort of short for a Stephen King and would recommend
I'm only half way through the video and you already landed on two Community Shelves, which actually is the prompt card, not a specific book 😇 But you got great books for that anyway so that's good 😀
I am just in chaos mode 😂 I saw shelves printed on the design and thought it was...books from my shelves hhaha
What cards are you using for chance? I love them!
Those are from my own TBR game, called TBRvatar 🥰
That’s awesome!!! They look really neat!
The Green Mile is kind of an easy book to read although look up trigger warnings there are a lot. I did DNF it but I feel like it is at least worth trying as I did sort of enjoy the film with Tom Hanks
Oh I sobbed uncontrollably at the movie so I feel like I don’t want to put myself through that again 😂
@@BookRoast I cried at the movie but didn't at the book
Tommy knockers
For Stephen King, I thought Firestarter was very intersting, otherwise his short stories are a lot of fun
That was fun if not enraging 😂
This is accurately put 😂❤️
If you do decide tonread Stephen King then start with Carrie which is his first novel. Others that might be interesting are Salem's Lot if you like vampires, Cell (might be a chunky monkey) which is a dystopian and how cell phones can kind of turn you brainless, and this is before smart phones, so may be a bit dated, still fun to read. He has a classic book of short stories like Night Shift where some of his movies came from like Children of the Corn or Maximum Overdrive...lol...my mom is a horror fan so horror books and horror movies, a lot of Stephen King's novels or short stories became movies. If you want Fantasy he has two, The Eyes of the Dragon and the latest one that came out Fairy Tale. If you want something really short thenay I suggest his graphic novel/comic called Creepshow. I will say the last story in there is a bit disgusting due to a certain bug, not spiders.
I read Uzumaki years ago it is brilliant but it scarred me, pretty sure main character is a girl. And I legit hope you enjoy shadow cabinate. I don’t want others to have the experience with it I did. STEPHEN KING REC: maybe try The Gunslinger? First in his dark fantasy series but it’s pretty short and kinda very western gunslinger desert wasteland.
I’m not super fam😢with your tastes, but if you liked the Tom Hanks movie “The Green Mile” I would recommend the book. It’s very true to the movie. Also, Becca said anything featuring royalty counts for this prompt - just saying 🤷🏻♀️
Try fairy tale by Stephen King. Grimm dark bedtime story told by Stephen King
I tried the SPOOKY code but the code isn't applicable in Canada. Just thought I'd let you know. Was quite disappointed.
Oh sorry I did not know that, will flag! ✨ does code BOOKROAST still work?
How do you get book of the month if you live in the UK only has USA and Canada for shipping
They are kind enough to work with creators from other countries (which is rare for us outside of US), they send these separately. My audience is mainly US/Canada so it’s still applicable
@BookRoast ahhh okay was hoping to subscribe myself wasn't sure if I was missing something when it came to the shipping 😅
@dsotical4291 no no you got it right! Fingers crossed they expand in the future!
I did 4 rolls and rolled double 5 times… this is ridiculous
We are the alabaster come to life;
the wanderers above a sea of fog.
Thy happy ever after was soon thine,
but if you want to live you need a job.
As forklifts sweep away the jaguar’s prints,
thy face conceals the same displace’ed pur.
Those forest treestumps art our precipice;
Erato’s portrait peering down unnerved.
The angels’d rather see us pick rosebuds
in togas of pink, in togas of blue,
in freedom where we can be what we want
beneath the cancer sun and leo moon.
How could they even tax our humanhood?
and even worse, how could we just comply?
You good bro?
Is this a poem from a book?
no. just one i wrote @@Bookishandcaffeinated
yes lol @@BookRoast
I’m participating in this also 🎉 yay 👏
I rather enjoyed Salem’s Lot!
Stephen King: The Mist is 176 pages.
I am not a huge fan of Stephen king but The Green Mile is pretty good.
The slippy dice is so cute but also not helpfull at all 😆
pure chaos haha
Expected,lol
You don’t have to read a Stephen King book for that prompt. According to Becca, a book with a royal title in the name of the book counts. Good luck with your TBR. I Am loving this readathon but not as much as yours.
Yuuush I have a pinned comment about that ☺️❤️ best of luck with your tbr also, hope you have some great reads!
I liked Misery by Stephen King, but I read it as a teen so take that rec with a grain of salt. It's a shame you can't fudge with this prompt and read something by Jonah Hill (who is Stephen King's son and since they share DNA you could justify it that way). I think he's a better writer than King, to be honest.
Oooh I did enjoy Locke & Key by them! It’s okay that prompt worked out for another book I need to read 😂❤️
Joe Hill.
