I love circuits like this that use chips in cool ways they were never really designed for. I hate to think of the pain that would come from trying to use this for any practical measurements though.
A 4093 with one resistor and one capacitor would replace the 555 and all its circuit and do the job just as well. And that leaves you with 3 gates to make a trigger circuit with.
I love your videos! I would like to build this oscilloscope too, but I need to know what the CD4017 is since where I would get it from, there are three different variants that are: flip flop, logic counters/dividers, and one from the 4000 series. Can you help me with this please?
Hi, sorry for the long waiting time for my reply! CD4017 is a CMOS counter / divider IC and you can buy from here: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002302665931.html (select CD4017BE DIP16) - You can also find its datasheet in my datascheet archive which I have made available: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rfkyYgDA8GO9ass8A4s5E32tbQjO2B2d
HI , good job , but i am not sure how leds are connected ; all cathodes are implanted in hole pad and soldered betwen them ? while anode along tracks, are cutted..Is that right ? Thanks
Am I right in thinking that this is not possible on a simple breadboard by virtue of the layout of the grid of connected conductors? (Meaning you couldn't wire the LED matrix on a breadboard right?)

Hi, thank you very much! :) - The circuit supply voltage is 9 / 12V DC - the signal input voltage must not exceed 30V. - If an audio signal is input it works, it works well with low frequency audio signals.
The coolest diy Oscope on YT.
Great job....

Really cool implementations of the 3 ic's, great job and the write-up is a nice touch

Hi, Yes that's right, since I made this PCB in house, a few years ago (in 2011) I wasn't able to make a double layer PCB.

This is the result of the good logical thinking, nice.
Bravo Stefano. Bel lavoro. Grazie tanto per gli tuoi disegni e spiegazione. God[Bible] Bless.

Hola sabes cómo se pone a trabajar un servo motor con la CNC shield y dos motores paso a paso?
Hola, necesitas un microcontrolador dedicado
Can I increase the row to 12 led ?or how to ?
Hi, no the max number is 10 (10x10 matrix)
@@Stefano91ste You can add 4017 in series sequential to make 20x10 matrix.
Likewise with LM3914/5/6 connect in series to make more levels vertically.

Is it possible to use this oscilloscope for square wave signal

Hi, Unfortunately no, it wouldn't be able to view it

Yes , to simplify things should realize a matrix of LEDs on stripboard and assemble the rest of the circuit on breadboard.

Cool! Will it work with LM3915 on high frequencies?
Yes, but with this type of project LM3914 is better than LM3915
Lm3915/lm3916 is not suited because its scale is logarithmic. Your graph would be condensed at one end.

L'elettronica analogica è troppo bella :)
your schematic has the 555 called LM555.. is that a mistake???
Hi, no mistake, they are the same.. 555 can be used as a abbreviation for NE555
Awesome!
Thank you :)
does it use a lm3914 or a lm3915?
Hi, it use a LM3914
Can we read 220 v ac waves darectly
Is not possible with this oscilloscope
What if i want to use an screen rather than LEDs so how can i make the connection
At this circuit you can not connect an LCD, it is designed to use a led matrix as a screen
This project was published sometime at the start of 90s in electronics for you magazine...
Yes, the circuit name is "AUDIO HISTOGRAM".
Is not an "Audio Histogram" The graphical representation is like an oscilloscope (Sine Wave)
