I am a HUGE fan of Steve Howe. Anyone that doesn't consider him one of the great guitarists of the 70's. Doesn't understand guitar and doesn't understand talent. Bravo Steve, Bravo!!!
He probably did, any professional guitar player should take at least one lesson in their lives or whatsoever. But I do think he got probably a classical guitar lesson or nothing less.
@@wildchild01ok Or had classical training books. I got lucky and ran into some with emphasis on R hand technique where the thumb is named P, index finger is I. Middle finger M, and ring finger A. The pinky finger isn't used cos it's much shorter than the rest.I didn't develop bad habits early which are a bear to break.
@@wildchild01ok I don't know if that was his case, but David Gilmour for example looked at books and records he had at home, at that time there was no one to teach and practice was the greatest master of these talented musicians, in fact the English were the ones who felt in their souls the music that came from America and classical music that was already part of European culture. Steve Howe is a living legend and one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

if you're a Steve Howe fan, then check his hard fusion work in "Sound Chaser", his free jazz improv in "The Ancient", his acoustic/classic skills in "And You And I", "Turn Of The Century" and "Madrigal" and his nack for complex arrangements in songs like "Close To The Edge", "Gates of Delirium", "Ritual", "Siberian Kathru", "To Be Over" or "Awaken" btw, i recommend you also check Yes' first 2 albums (Yes and Time And A Word), they are not totally prog rock, more like psychedlic rock, awesome tho
The incredible beauty of "Mood For A Day" and the passion and mind-boggling skill of Steve Howe leaves me truly awestruck. My respect and admiration to this exceptional musician. I adore this song!
this tune was and still tells uz not to worry because each day has it's own battles and thus by being pure in heart we will always have classics like this diamond of a tune i get such an awaesome feeling every time i listen to this classic
. . . and that awesome feeling is part of a broader mood of the ever-changing complexity of our conscious life in contact with divine other; so naturally there are no lyrics/words in this tune because words cannot explain our many moods & many days.
I remember once at the end of the trip I was playing this album while in the passenger seat of the car and when this song came on there was a real sense of peace like the world was in total harmony for a while I love this piece
howe doesnt get enough recognition. He had his very own style as unique as hendrix but with more color and depth. So many great guitarists but only a handful create something new that cant really even be copied. He may be the only one to do it and im not even shure he konws how it happened. Lots of great fusion and technical guys but nobody as good as howe in creativity as far as depth of feeling.
Ironically he played alongside Jimi Hendrix in Tomorrow. TWINK got to play with 2 of the greatest guitarist of the era. Jimi was on John Wood's Bass Guitar upside down of course!!!! No film unfortunately.
ALUCINANTE!!! TRISTEZA POR UN DIA!!! TENGO 51 AÑOS Y DESDE LOS 9 AÑOS QUE SOY FANATICA DE YES Y PODER VER ESTE MATERIAL..... ME HACE VOLAR Y VIVIR MAS FELIZ!!!! GRACIAS A QUIEN LO SUBIO. MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im lucky..i got to see yes 6 times..love their shows 1st one was at jfk stadium in Philadelphia one week out of high school back in 76..130,000 ppl there..
I still can't get over how much I love this song. I don't know how to describe the way it makes me feel. It's romantic, beautiful, relaxing, & also makes me feel like I'm at a renaissance ball or something.
I heard my dad play this on Piano as a child. In high school I asked him about that song he used to played. He handed me the YES album with mood for a day on it and had my mind totally blown by this amazing group!
Do you know where the show took place or any additional info? setlist.fm says that Yes did not do a show at Montreux in 1973. I'm looking for more footage of the 73' shows but there's nothing except the Yessongs movie.
Ok, did some research and this looks like Steve Howe's 'Unplugged Live' which I can't find any solid dates on although 1979 was popping up quite a bit. Probably not 1973.
I just turned 50 and I have never grown tired of hearing this. When I meet a young "guitarist" I ask them to play this for me... Blank faces... Talent=WORK
A real funny thing happened when I was waiting for a resent clip of Steve to start playing. An ad for a product that makes you look 10 years younger came up. I thought that he would need a whole box full for it to work.
I've been trying to play this song for over 25 yrs and STILL havent got it down yet. Can I add, wow, that face! this guy is clearly from another planet! :-) Ultra Intensity Personified
God, definitely what I consider to be one of the greatest songs of all time. So beautiful. i mean the part at 1:35 has to be my favorite melody of all time.
For all of you complaining about how he looks, this is a very beautiful piece that he wrote and is playing. I also should mention that it took weeks and weeks of practice for me to play it. I should mention that I never recognized him for having any stage presence, but he sure has stage presence.
this is so beautiful! Wow, Steve Howe! How do ya do it? Where have you gone? I remember listening to this when I was 15 yrs. old.. I'm now 42 and got so much to do... Oh, the times, they are a changin'!
No kidding! Howe deserves that Top 100 distinction on just Mood For A Day and The Clap alone, not to mention all the excellent guitar work in the Yes catalog. I have to laugh because I think he is the greatest guitar and I have seen most of those other greats in concert. Howe is the greatest.
A master musical genius. I can't believe there are guitarists out there that never heard of him. Saw him live 4 times with YES, his fellow musical geniuses.
This selection off "Fragile" demonstrates a quiet but potent musical genius as opposed to the noise masquerading as music that many people have conditioned themselves to accept. All of Steve Howe's acoustic compositions have an individual craft of expertise which is never compromised.
He's usinhg the same guitar I have, Martin J-40, Somehow I can't get the same sweet music out of it that Steve Howe can. And I never will. I can accept that. He is one of the great guitarists of all time.
Be sure to follow up on other titles from them. Also check out Rush, as their classic stuff is great even is sometimes really hard, their soft is just as beautiful at times and the poetry elegant. Check out YES's first two albums, then grab up Close To The Edge or the other way around. Wait on Tales from Topographic till u really got a feel for them. Each side is one song with several stories of music and you must learn their langauage first. Each side, one song, four sides. Each one has mvmnt.
Very encouraging to see he fingerpicks it the way I do. Always thought my technique was trash because I'm relying so much on my thumb and forefinger. If it's good enough for the master, it's good enough for me!
The Yes Album Close the Edge Tales from Topographic Oceans Yessongs - Live DVD 1973 Yes Yesterdays. Hope you will enjoy this music. I saw them live back in 1977 and 1979 Steve Howe on the ax and Chris Squire on bass!

Yeah, he barely even looks at his guitar while he is playing.
Music for ever.
greatest guitarist of all time. period.
perhaps in the genre. He's the only modern guitarist I think of when I listen to Andre Segovia.
Definitely in my top 10 list.
I consider Steve the greatest, and Gilmour my favorite

Fools feigning wisdom are amusing.
Keep typing, you two.
To be honest...a guitarist who can play such technical songs with that intensity is a thing you cannot see everyday...
Ellipsis abuse is real.
It's real, it's valid, it's a unity experience, it's transcendence, it's infinite -- each mood of each day.
Probably the most inspiring piece of guitar music I've ever heard, so ya it's my all time fav!
That was a TOTALLY Spiritual performance.. I love it!!!
I had forgotten how much I love this tune!
A master musician.
Not only can Howe play any stringed instrument known to man , he has mastered most of them too !

Happy birthday Steve Howe -- today April 8.
Master of masters. I wish God will bless this century with a guitar player of his sensibility and creativity.
