I love this pattern. I made a necklace and earrings in about an hour. The earrings are heavy so keep that in mind when wearing and gifting the. They might hurt someones ears if warn too long.
This is a little large for an earring for me but would it would be a great pendant. And perhaps it could be scaled to a smaller scale using miniduos and 4mm pearls- perhaps 6 vs. 8.

I was thinking the same thing. I imagine you could also use the same size beads but instead of starting with 8 pearls, try 6 pearls.
