It really speaks volumes how charismatic and generally brilliant Ellen, Luke, and the team are that Show of Weekend has dropped all pretence of being a video game show and has maintained such a loyal fandom.
I think in times of pretty great struggle, like the world has been in, there's nothing better than seeing others just being happy and doing things they love. Like on this show. I think that's one reason why. Gives off good endorphins and vibes

Yep. The reason most of us watch Oxtra isn't for the content or anything but just for Luke and Ellen. There was a conversation on a comment for the snap episode that we'd probably even find it entertaining watching them do something like their taxes.
I'll level with you, I'd forgotten it was supposed to be a video game show, they so gracefully made the transition into "Ellen and Luke Mucking Around Time"
@@dallydaydream tbh it's always had that as a major element (with guest appearances from Andy, Jane, and Mike). Now it's just the vudeo game stuff that's gone.
I adore how the show has turned into Ellen and Luke do random stuff they enjoy and everyone else just needs to shut up and ride along. 5/5 stars no notes.

I thoroughly enjoyed Luke's Gothic Horror readings. I now know I need an Ellen's Fantasy readings, but with Luke doing some like Mystery Science Theater 3000 commentary along the readings they do not always need to be "choose your own adventure"

I truly would be so pleased if Oxtra just had a whole little series about Ellen and Luke reading choose your own adventure books. Maybe for their Hallowstreams they could even read one of the Goosebump choose your own adventures (which I remember being wild)

Luke's acting and Ellen's miming the spells/weapons is gold. This longer episode was such a treat. But man, I forgot how unforgiving these books could be.
Now Luke is gonna write his Warrior/Wizard fanfiction.
I'm not even five minutes in and this is the most I've laughed all week. What an absolute tonic this channel is.
EDIT: 27:09 - we absolutely need an "I am the support class in my own adventure" t-shirt.

I loved the choose-your-own-violent-and-often-terrifying-death books as a kid. The Dark Souls of the 1980s, when 'git gud' was merely memorising previous page numbers.
Also one of the most relatable Family Guy jokes, something like this: "I face him in combat .... Ah, aaah, aaah! Horrible death! That doesn't count, I had my finger on the previous page! You saw that, right Lois?"
I read I think schoolastic ones that never had any bad ends.

The king’s greatest warriors begin their heroic journey to save the kingdom. Upon meeting their first foe, one immediately biffs it on their horse and gets stabbed, and the other subsequently drives himself insane. 10/10, no notes.
This episode made my day! Absolutely brilliant; looking forward to future entries in the hilarious failings of Warrior and Wizard.

This is not only a Presh Memory of 2022, but also a watershed episode for Show of the Weekend, IMO. This affirms SoTW is a legit variety show not dependent on video game content that can stand on its own, thanks largely due to the undeniable chemistry between Luke & Ellen. Huzzah, my noble Wizards and Warriors!

I thought Ellen's 'you failed to account for the ancient leopard' was her revenge for Luke's Kingdom Come Deliverance CYOA, but I get the feeling this is going to be a whole new level!

How did the scout know what the king was talking about? “They’re already ghosts” implies he listened to the conversation long enough to be able to make his entrance.
He spent a while waiting for a cool moment to come in, he definitely doomed himself but it was a sick entrance
He didn’t hear the entire conversation, just the last line coming through the doorway. It’s not like THE WARRIOR was whispering.

"THEY ARE ALREADY GHOSTS!!!!" Screamed a Scout, pushing open the heady doors and staggering the 25 metres to the throne. He was bleeding profusely after somehow meeting the ghosts and riding to the castle far faster than the spectral threat could... Somehow...

This is right up there in the list of best SOTW for OXtra. I was losing it and loving it at the same time. This is genuinely amazing.

I had one of the books in this series when I was a little tacker, and the one I had was written by RL Stine as well. Hell of a nostalgia shot to see one of these books on SotW.

I don’t know what made me laugh harder - Luke briefly using Johnny’s Evil Skeleton voice for Lancelot’s reaction to the wizard cursing himself, or the entire “Spearman with the Long Shaft” debacle (especially in relation to Sir “Died A Virgin” Galahad).
I have named that section at the end "Fifty Shades of Galahad".
He was in terrible peril.

Is this still going to be an ongoing thing or have you guys decided not to continue? I really hope you do continue. This was a lot of fun. Although at this point (months after initially watching the video), I might need to re-watch this video to refresh my memory of the story so far, lol. That or please make sure to do a “Previously on Show of the Weekend” story recap.

Funnily enough when I was a kid in the 2010s they still made those books and I still grew up loving them
Borrowed one of the Fighting Fantasy books from a public library around 2010. Seeing my interest, I was shown my dad's collections of many books. For about 5 years, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone were my favourite authors.
If Show of the Weekend turned into nothing but choose your own adventure books and Pokémon magazines I would be utterly thrilled ☺️

Video idea: obvious mistakes that shouldn’t have made it past Quality assurance. For example, Nights of azure it has a trophy that has the main protagonists name wrong and another which has the main antagonists name wrong

I love how the first twelve minutes is the text version of a non-interactive intro cutscene. I would have gone with Senu the Eagle’s voice for the wizard, though.

I clicked on this video thinking it was a book Luke had written. Never seen a SOTW episode before (I like the lists and oxventures) and I can't stop laughing at the constant flood of thinly veiled dick jokes.

Not sure I ever ran across this series but I fondly remember the Lone Wolf series of choose your own adventures by Joe Deever and Gary Chalk. Check it out if you want to get some inspiration for any fantasy adventure you want to play or create.
The series i read as a kid were the Fighting Fantasy books. Honestly, I didn't even know there were other series like that one.
Back in 2014 _Joe Dever's Lone Wolf HD Remastered_ was released on Steam. Haven't played it; always preferred Grey Star to Lone Wolf.
I can't decide if the wizard is a cockney woman or a little cockney boy, but this was a great video
I don't know if they still have it, but my folks had a copy of Time Raiders by R.L. Stine at their cabin when I was a kid. I don't know if it's still there or not. It was also a CYOA style book from the 80's, and yes, you could die just as gruesomely and quickly.
Loved those as a kid, now I'm dying at the adventures at make out point!

It's been a month since we last heard from the wizard and warrior... I fear that the murderous ghosts of Camelot have won. Makeout rock is achingly deserted, lonely, forlorn without the beautiful love between the wizard and warrior. Ellen, Luke, please don't let the scout (who died to warn the king) perish in vain! And what of all those peasants working the fields?! Must they now work under a new, slightly more tyrannical ghostly rulers? We must have answers. We need hope. Please.
Am hooked on this to be honest - the follow-up SOTWE couldn't come any sooner!

Just here adding my support to someone else’s suggestion that after Luke has gone through as the wizard, Ellen needs to hand the book to him and have a go as the warrior.
