    Buffalo Trace got its name from an ancient buffalo crossing path over the Kentucky river in Frankfort, right near the distillery. That type of path is known as a 'trace'...so 'Buffalo Trace'. The distillery is amazing though and I recommend anyone that can to tour there at least once :)

    I've only been into Bourbon around 6 months and Buffalo trace is my favourite so far. Although there isn't a massive selection here in Northern Ireland, we get bottles like Makers Mark, Knob Creek small batch, Old Forester 86, Bulleit, Buffalo Trace etc lower end bottles price ways.. I have had a bottle of Eagle Rare also which I got online, but always reach the Buffalo Trace.
    Also man, your clock is wrong 😂

Eagle Rare is extremely smooth ten year old whiskey but i have been told that supposedly a blended whiskey.

    I always tell anybody that hasn’t had BT that it’s the most bourbony bourbon that has ever bourbon’d. When I think of the true essence of bourbon as a product, the taste of BT is immediately what I have in my head. It’s so pleasant and enjoyable but nothing all that special. It’s also funny hearing people say it’s hard to find. Thank goodness I live in Tennessee and can find it virtually anywhere most of the time.

    Good video. Buffalo trace is a solid budget bourbon, generally it’s a blended bourbon. Yours being a store pick is a single barrel. Eagle rare to my knowledge is still a single barrel, they took the single barrel statement off the bottle because they don’t clean the lines between barrels, but in all actuality it’s still a single barrel and the bottles will fluctuate a little bit between them. While Buffalo trace is still easy to find by me, Eagle Rare has become really hard to find. And when you do it’s always $50+.

    • @Xander-dx6mw
      @Xander-dx6mw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me try to unpack what you said. It is true that most Store Picks are single barrel, but there are instances where a large store pick (need for 300 bottles) can blend two barrels together. Eagle Rare has not been a single barrel since around 2014 or 2015 when they began batching and changed the label. Regular Buffalo Trace is not a blended bourbon (per the technical definition), but you may have been thinking it was batched (multiple barrels, up to 50). It is labeled as being a straight whisky (if aged more than two, but less than four years would need to be labeled with its age), has no added color, flavor or neutral grain spirit. A blended bourbon can contain added color, flavor, or neutral grain spirit. It is not possible to have a Blended Straight Bourbon. The only single barrel continuous production whisky Buffalo Trace has is Blanton's, and it was asked if they flush the dump tub, filters and lines between barrels during a tour in 2018, and the answer was "No", but they do use a dedicated production line only for Blanton's.

    • @THutch556
      @THutch556 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Xander-dx6mw Hello CJ, yes when I stated Buffalo Trace is a blended Bourbon, I meant blended with other Buffalo trace barrels and it’s not a single barrel, but you are correct as what I meant to type was it is generally a batched Bourbon. Drew’s in the video was a store pick, and more times than not a store pick is a single barrel (but not always). As far as Eagle Rare being a batched Bourbon that is news to me as I was under the impression and have heard from several people that it is still a single barrel, the difference now being they don’t flush the lines from barrel to barrel anymore and that’s the reason for removing the statement. Hmm, but who knows that may have been the case when they first removed the statement and now the may have moved on to batching it. Not sure. Thanks for the information.

    Buffalo Trace is my favorite regular drinker. I find the taste better than most for my palate. I have Eagle Rare (I was disappointed given all the hype around it) and I recently tried Blanton's. I understand how much more flavor Blanton's pulls out and it is good... but in the price range (and I'm talking MSRP), there are much better bourbons. In the Buffalo Trace family, I still think Buffalo Trace is their best offering (especially as it costs $26 in my neighborhood). My caveat here is that I have not yet had the Stagg or EH Taylor.

    I would really like an intelligent explanation as to why some bourbons are plentiful in some parts of the country but hard to find in others. These are major distilleries so you would think things would be evenly distributed throughout the country. Is it supply and demand, exclusive dealer contracts, or something else?

    • @MrSomnophore
      @MrSomnophore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This might not be 100% accurate. This is just how I understand it as it was explained to me numerous times from my sales reps. when I bring up Buffalo Trace.
      As far as individual liquor stores goes: BT and all of their products are currently "Allocated" Sazerac being the parent company decides how the allocations work out. In the liquor store I manage, we do not sell allot of Sazerac products so I am allocated ZERO BT products. I am not allowed to order them and if my sales rep does try to order them, they do not arrive. If I worked in a market where some of the other Sazerac products sold better I would be able to order it.
      Also, there are the big box liquor stores. They are able to get the products in because they can order in CASES of stuff that will be dust collecting bottles in order to get the fast moving, more requested items. Whereas the small liquor stores cannot afford to tie up their money in back stock inventory that does not produce revenue. Get to know those managers at the Big Box store though or you will never see the allocated items like Eagle Rare, Weller, or Stagg when they come in. Those do not go on shelves in bigger stores, if the team does not buy them up, they go to special customers.
      If you scale that up to the Distribution level, the same thing applies. The company I would buy BT from orders 700 cases of it to come in. They may only get 75 based on their Sazerac purchases. So now the entire market they service is shorted product.
      In my market, Blanton's is heavily allocated to bars and restaurants making it almost impossible to find on a store shelf. I have never seen one personally.

    your history is a bit convoluted. Buffalo Trace was named as the distillery, people started to ask why there was no bourbon named buffalo trace and after many years of complaints they finally made a 'buffalo trace' named bourbon.

    My whole family think Buffalo trace and Eagle rare are kind of boring, Buffalo trace makes some really great whiskeys but these are just not worth the money in my opinion! We love Weller special reseve and antique 107, plus E.H.Taylor single barrel and small batch. We like Rock hill farm and Blantons also!

    Drew, I want to buy a bottle of Eagle Rare mainly and perhaps Buffalo Trace in the near future. I'm in Cleveland and there is non to be found of either one in any store I call nor does anyone know if or when they're getting any shipped. So I've spent a consider amount of time researching for online retailers and found Liquorama.net to be the cheapest. They are selling a bottle of Eagle Rare for $59 plus $5 tax and free shipping which totals $64. Probably double of retail. I've even seen web sites asking over $100 for Eagle Rare. Is this acceptable or is there another option out there to get this whiskey?
    Thanks
