Great video. My family friend was diagnosed with ATN, decided to also read up about it. We are also in renal block in school. I'm a 2nd year medical student.

the best! I am loving these lectures. He actually teaches better than my Ultrasound instructor. I am preparing for my ARDMS Abdomen exam next month and these have been a tremendous help more so than reading the huge textbook.

Hi i have a question , If during intial phase of ATN , pt will have hyperkalemia , metabolic acidosis , hypocalcemia , hyperphosphatemia , fluid overload ( according to kumar & clarks ) , however why during recovery phase of ATN (polyuric stage ) , patient wil have hypokalemia? Is it because of all the potassium is unable to reabsorb potassium ? thanks!

    Magnificent Sir.
Thats what I call the power of free information and internet. I would rather contribute a portion of my tuition to you than my horrible professors who READ off from the slides and no reasoning. med school should never be memorizing but reasoning

Great explanation but i didn’t get the recovery phase of ATN, i mean it is ischemia, from where we got that urine (polyuria)?

The most common cause of pre renal acute renal failure is hypo perfusion and as we know ATN is interstitial so the problem within tubulars not filtration.....!

Ohk acute tubular necrosis causes renal type of AKI but one of the reasons for acute tubular necrosis is ischemia to kidneys.....and ischemia to kidneys must cause pre renal AKI Isn't....can anyone please help me understand it...how can ischemia cause pre renal variety and renal variety?

Great. ..low renal perfusion during the hypotension is clear but why urine out put increases later despite the fact that hypotension is still present and the GFR remains low!!!

+Naji abdel-samad its like something the accumulates (edema around kidney vessels) and suddenly burst out (necrotising of tubules and opens up allowing water with it)
