The otter is probably the cutest tame in the game, but what people tend to forget about it is that it also has some really awesome uses. It can carry artifacts and it can make it so you have no concern about the the cold at all!!!

The indcredible combinatin with ichthyiorns. if you whistle , ichthiornis will kill a salmon , piranha, and... even dodos!!!, after that, it comes to you with the death body whith stranger shines, who means that the quality of that increases absurdly. Any animal. Then, the otter can hasvest the body by histle and gives you absurd ammount of prime fish an prime meat. And you can do that during a tame using cryopods to get primeS
I love this channel, you are the only one that i’ve found that are reali intrested in all mechanics of dinos on ark, so if i can maybe apport some imformation i will do to for the good of the community.

Tamed an otter and aimed at a fish with a crossbow and did the ff to send him on his way. It appeared he chased the fish, never did more and swam out into the deep, so I got on an Argentavis to chase him down. Found him, asked him to stop and follow, and it appeared he wouldn't do either, than a jellyfish swam very quickly and killed him. I didn't think jellyfish could swim that fast.
Great guide! Long time watcher, 1st time commenter. Something folks might not be aware of... The Otter's insulation effect will help you hatch eggs like the Dimetrodon. It's not as powerful and the AOE is small (have to drop the egg on TOP of the otter) but it does work. At least on Xbox I haven't tried to science it out on PC. (Full disclosure, a good buddy of mine actually discovered this. I just wanted to pass it along cause it's nifty!)
It works on pc too.
I always tame an otter asap, helps me hatch eggs before I can get enough supplies for enough ac units.
That and being on neutral, high enough melee can save your butt from kapro.
Gonna put one in the niddle of 4 otters and see how it goes

Tek canteen is the best for any hot/cold environment. I can fly through the murder murder snow on rag in flak at 34 fort and take 0 damage if the canteen is set to hot water. Holds 9 refills as well, so yeah highly recommend for lunar biome survival. This was a year ago though, if you see this, how'd the testing go?
You just have to (Aim) at a fish for him to attack it. Much like the Ichtyornis

They do both - if you notice when he says his cold protection is 1200 his hot is also over 800.

I love the otters so much, but could you make a video on how to get hats for him?
get one for 100% weight into it. .and you can get another slot cap of Chitin on runs also. so if you wanted.. you can slot cap the otter yourself and a megatherium, for those swamp cave runs to make cementing paste.
If you got genesis and you need a bunch of cp just cheese the alpha challenges 30k points gets you like 12k cp. I average that run every 5 minutes.

You forgot the most useful thing about the otter. Its the only tame that can carry artifacts and it can carry more of the same artifact, unlike players.

I crashed while on official and lost my otter like couldn't find it. Then it was killed I looked on my log it had killed 2 lvl 80 guys and 250 tera before they came back. Haha

I just learned, not sure if its on computer, but on console, if u hold the square button it opens a menu while u have shoulder pet that allows u to access their inventory while still on ur back.
Another thing they do is you can set many eggs on them to incubate, like paras and such that don't need super high temps. A blanket of otters will be warm enough to hatch the egg.

The x variant is basically just a color thing for the otter. All the abilities are the same for both otters.
What I do is to kill fish and while he's on your shoulder he'll eat the fish and you won't have to take it from his inventory repeatedly

Literally *everyone* knows all of this. Its all been known since otter was first added to the game. Not at all useful, a waste of time to even watch this.
Its good to have a good time but not good for using as farming

Always love the tuts. As mentioned they're essentially a backpack, on official I used these cuties as a meatstore for large scale meat runs, 1/3 extra per trip adds up if you black box your dino, yourself and the otter
1/2 more per trip not trying to be rude just trying to help some people think things through
Use hyaenodons for meat run, they have a super meat weight reduction, slot cap them easy
@@romolopez6109 nope, 1/3 otter, 1/3 character, 1/3 dino (mana ) all capped is how I do it

I had ac units running and accidentally left my bloodstalkers breeding. Now there are a bunch of full grown unclaimed bloodstalkers. Is there a command to get rid of them? I play on ps4.

Unknown Uses: Literally the uses from the description of notes and on the wiki. I don't want to be heavily critical because overall I like your videos and have found them useful, but the only "unknown" thing here would have been the artifact carrying.

Hm, some shoulder pets are NOT able to carry artifacts even if their weight is sufficient. Think I tried Dimorph and it would not allow artifacts to enter inventory.
Read below that otters are ONLY shoulder capable of carrying artifacts.
Which ones are the easiest to find X or normal, and what map?
X-Otters are only found on the Genesis map. Regular Otters are found in almost any other map.
Otters are found easiest on ragnarok in a little pond near red woods and wyvern trench, abbrant otters are found in the river before the blue zone water fall closest to the surface entrance that connect to blue zone. X otters are found in snow biom on genesis teleport n in snow biom they are at the frozen lake where you do the fishing mission
I didn't play on Abb for long, but there was an absurd amount of otters in the waters outside the glowtail cave on my map. Genesis is by far the rarest place to find them. They are a rare spawn as is, but being limited to the snow makes it much worse.
