    If you're living off Euros, Pounds, Dollars etc, then I can imagine that living in Cape Town isn't expensive. If you're earning Rands (South African currency), then you might not say that Cape Town living isn't expensive. Our currency, and the average salary doesn't necessarily mean you can eat out twice a day and buy organic groceries. We don't have the same level of free healthcare as the UK for example, and it's advisable to get private health care. If you're living in the city itself, then you can get by without a car (uber, buses, walking) but otherwise, you need a car (and with that comes insurance and petrol). My comment is not meant to dampen the vibe of Cape Town being an amazing city to live in... it's just to give perspective if you're earning in rands, especially if you're a student or in your twenties and just starting out with your career here. It is an amazing city; cultural diversity, nature at its best, great food and friendly people!

      Emilia Sommer as a black South African I find this offensive you are putting fuel to the already dangerous flame of racial hatred in my beloved country by saying internationals wouldn't find CPUT attractive because they are a lot of black South Africa's. they are many international students at UWC.

    This is so helpful thank you. Did you feel uneasy traveling around cape town as a young girl? I've been told some horrible stories that you need a body guard to go around and it's pretty unsafe but it seems not to be the case with you? thanks

    • @calistakolozsvari8271
      @calistakolozsvari8271 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jemma Daley You don't need a literal body guard but it's definitely not 100% safe walking anywhere by yourself. You're taking a risk if you go anywhere by yourself. I would highly recommend going with a group of people or a man, coming from a 15 year old girl who has spent her whole life in South Africa. Hope this helps x

    • @lifewithreesy
      @lifewithreesy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is false. Infact, I haven't seen anyone but government officials with bodyguards. South Africa isn't as bad as the media portrays. It's like any other place: Always be careful & cautious, take care of yourself & your belongings, be nice to people haha It's just not safe walking around alone/at night especially, always best to be in groups.

    • @Xylodrums105
      @Xylodrums105 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jemma Daley its probably unsafe for europeds because they dont belong there.
      and if its not safe for native afrikana then its because of colonialism from europeds.

Im looking to relocate to Capetown after school my incomecwould probably be ~500,000 Rand at first (not including the extra money in Canadian dollars doing contract work) Would. That be enough to live (comfortably) -on the ocean of table mountain ( not the suburbs) side like Zonnebloem or perhaps even Green point, Sea side? Thank you!

    • @joliejanine
      @joliejanine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My sister and I have a car which we use to get around. Our room mate Magdalena however, doesn't have one, so to get to univeristy she uses the Myciti buses and from time to time (when she is late) an Uber :)

    • @lifewithreesy
      @lifewithreesy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. Our public transport infrastructure isn't great. Whoever can afford to buy a car, does that and doesn't usually use public transport. Taxi drivers drive like hooligans and risk peoples lives so they can get around as fast as poeple, buses are an ok option and Uber is always great but not everyone can afford that.
