If you're living off Euros, Pounds, Dollars etc, then I can imagine that living in Cape Town isn't expensive. If you're earning Rands (South African currency), then you might not say that Cape Town living isn't expensive. Our currency, and the average salary doesn't necessarily mean you can eat out twice a day and buy organic groceries. We don't have the same level of free healthcare as the UK for example, and it's advisable to get private health care. If you're living in the city itself, then you can get by without a car (uber, buses, walking) but otherwise, you need a car (and with that comes insurance and petrol). My comment is not meant to dampen the vibe of Cape Town being an amazing city to live in... it's just to give perspective if you're earning in rands, especially if you're a student or in your twenties and just starting out with your career here. It is an amazing city; cultural diversity, nature at its best, great food and friendly people!
I spent a month in South Africa last year and loved it! Could you explain how you and your sister saved up the money to move down there and buy a place?
Emilia Sommer as a black South African I find this offensive you are putting fuel to the already dangerous flame of racial hatred in my beloved country by saying internationals wouldn't find CPUT attractive because they are a lot of black South Africa's. they are many international students at UWC.
How did you find that? I’m thinking of doing my masters in SA too, I am currently living in the uk and want to gather as much information as possible before hand
This is so helpful thank you. Did you feel uneasy traveling around cape town as a young girl? I've been told some horrible stories that you need a body guard to go around and it's pretty unsafe but it seems not to be the case with you? thanks
Jemma Daley You don't need a literal body guard but it's definitely not 100% safe walking anywhere by yourself. You're taking a risk if you go anywhere by yourself. I would highly recommend going with a group of people or a man, coming from a 15 year old girl who has spent her whole life in South Africa. Hope this helps x
That is false. Infact, I haven't seen anyone but government officials with bodyguards. South Africa isn't as bad as the media portrays. It's like any other place: Always be careful & cautious, take care of yourself & your belongings, be nice to people haha It's just not safe walking around alone/at night especially, always best to be in groups.
Jemma Daley its probably unsafe for europeds because they dont belong there. and if its not safe for native afrikana then its because of colonialism from europeds.
I want to go doing my master degree at UCT but i wanted to ask you have much you paid for tuition fees? I've heard it was about 1000€ for a year. I'm tired of london. This city is so expensive !!! And i miss the sea!
Ahhh I'm so excited for when I finish matric (South African grade 12) next year so I can go and study in Cape Town instead of being in Joburg because it's so much better there and there's more stuff to do and it's more safe than Jozi
Could anybody help me with an inquiry? Im looking to relocate to Capetown after school my incomecwould probably be ~500,000 Rand at first (not including the extra money in Canadian dollars doing contract work) Would. That be enough to live (comfortably) -on the ocean of table mountain ( not the suburbs) side like Zonnebloem or perhaps even Green point, Sea side? Thank you!
What transportation do you use in cape town to get around? im an IB student from an international school in linz, austria and 2 years ago exactly I participated in an exchange offered by my school for 2 weeks with a partner school in cape town, stellenberg. we always got around the city with a coach and our host families took us by car to most places, but we were always told that taking taxis or public transport is not safe at all there, but getting around without a car is nearly impossible in cape town i think…what's your solution to this?
My sister and I have a car which we use to get around. Our room mate Magdalena however, doesn't have one, so to get to univeristy she uses the Myciti buses and from time to time (when she is late) an Uber :)
Yeah. Our public transport infrastructure isn't great. Whoever can afford to buy a car, does that and doesn't usually use public transport. Taxi drivers drive like hooligans and risk peoples lives so they can get around as fast as poeple, buses are an ok option and Uber is always great but not everyone can afford that.
Margherita Petrin Ja depending on the degree you must do a math and English test. I think it's called NQF or something (sorry, I haven't wrote them for 5 years)
Hey Jolie could you maybe do a video about how you started your Instagram? I love taking pictures in general and I just don't know how I'll get people to notice my page (excpect from following other people etc. all that stuff on "How to get more followers" you can read about in the internet) It would make me soo happy! I love Capetown as well and I might wanna study there when I'm done with school (and travelling so much) Thank you for all your videos they help me alot and yeah lets say I just basically love all of your videos.♥♥
hi dear.. what is the cost of living there in terms of Usd , 2000 is enough for single bed room as well for food monthly ?? Currently we r in Kenya we wanted to move to South Africa
So I work off my computers. I'm a 35 year old male and I am I love my family here but everyone has their own life I have lived in Las Vegas, Denver Colorado and Los Angeles, Hollywood, and I just don't like where our country is going and I need to get out and see somewhere so what would be the best place or how to. Let's say go there for 3 months to check it out
A small piece of advice, look into the camera and not at yourself, it's really annoying to watch I have to admit... anyways interesting video and you look gorgeous!
Polly Drábová, you are living in Cape Town? I need Information about this great city please! I need know: Is life expensive? Is it easy to find a job? As are wages? Is it expensive to rent a good apartment?
I'll be extremely punctilious regarding the United States. You must be wealthy and crazy living here for good. The best education on earth IS NOT HERE!!!! America has the highest crime rate, and the highest divorce rate in the known universe. I will not discuss racism because that's a no brain remark.
Just found this video... I'm born in Summerset West, Cape Town. Moved to Bellville, Cape Town Pretty awesome place! Welcome to Cape Town😂 If your keen I have Two Hiking vlogs I've done here, just head over to my Playlist and under the Adventure vlogs you'll see all my hike vlogs

Hi Jolie, do you need english language requirements to study at the university in cape town?
Margherita Petrin yes
Margherita Petrin Ja depending on the degree you must do a math and English test. I think it's called NQF or something (sorry, I haven't wrote them for 5 years)

Sai Dba Hi man, as a local in SA I can tell you in approximate USD: it will cost about $800 for a two bedroom and about $300 per month on food :)
Sai Dba you can get a single bedroom for about $500. Look at property24 (google it)
