    Have you got any ideas on field knives, or did I miss that?

    • @STOKERMATIC
      @STOKERMATIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve got an older vid on knives search bar should help find.
      But don’t go boutique. 4-5”. Consider what you already have. And learn how to sharpen. I like Essee knives.

    Just out of curiosity. Why is it so hard to find a new or good condition Military grade poncho? I have looked for quite a while now and they just aren't showing up. Of the very rare times that I have seen a new one for sale they want way too much for it. Finding poncho liners is like falling off a log they are everywhere. New ... used, I try to stay away from used since people's ideas of what is in good condition is to variable. Any clues where I can find some? Do they sell them in the BX or PX on base anymore or is this an issue only item? I can't ever remember having one in the USAF so I am thinking its Army or Marine issue items?

      Try orc industries. They just dont have the cool camo. But their sizing is correct.
      Helikon is the other supplier, but they are smaller

    • @robertedwards7749
      @robertedwards7749 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sandsock Hey thanks for the info. I know about ORC but never heard of Helikon. Will have to look them up. Though from your comment I will probably go with ORC. Thank you again. Oh and to be honest Camo is not a big concern. Just as long as it does its work and is relatively good on maintenance and survivability in its working environment.

      Can be a challenge!

    • @baronedipiemonte3990
      @baronedipiemonte3990 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the modified arbor/ratchet knot ! ORC sells a plain OD poncho (expensive, $70), and the old Army ACU pattern, $40. Both are the correct sizes & would make for a comfy plough point shelter. BUT... their shipping/handling is exorbitant $20+....

    • @robertedwards7749
      @robertedwards7749 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baronedipiemonte3990 Hi, thank you for the tip. I have only one question, does anyone still use a poncho as a rain cover anymore? I have better things to use that are just as fast if not faster to use for a real cover in case I need to hunker down for a bit. LOL. Don't get me wrong it's great to think in multiple use for some of the items we carry. Dual purpose is great. I guess if all I had was a poncho then that would have to do. Sometimes the right tool for the job really is the item made for that job.

    Do you know how to acquire military issue grid maps?

    • @STOKERMATIC
      @STOKERMATIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your in the service, an S2 can provide any military map. If not, the closest thing you’ll get is from the USGS for CONUS maps.

    I will put out a warning for anyone who uses Paracord. DO NOT BUY ANY paracord from china. A lot of it is being sold in the US now (especially in California) I also discovered china made paracord in Lowes. The reason is that chinese made paracord will degrade over a few months when used or exposed to outdoor conditions. Here is what happened to me. I bought some from Ebay and from lowes. It wasnt until to late that i discovered this. What happens is the inner strands will disintegrate into powder over about a 4 month time period. No kidding. I found this out by accident. When I went to cut a length from some that I had used in my storage area to use for something else. When I cut it a powder just fell out of it like sugar from a straw. Leaving the outer sheath. I went to Ebay and tried to get a refund but it was past the 60 days they give. Despite explaining it took longer to expose the cord to the elements and found out by accident what had happened. I also learned that the people i bought from had changed their sellers name so i could not leave a warning on their page. All i can say is BUY AMERICAN and be very careful if you have to get something from a US based company who manufactures in China.

      So true! A lot of paracord isn’t 550 cord either!
      Hmmmm maybe a video in the making doing a comparison!
