    a lil add to this ,,iv changed feul pump and pressure reg ,NON GEN,,didnt change a thing ,,but today i finally fixed it ,,,the top part of feul pump cluster,were the feul regulator fits,
    the plastic peice with 3 holes,take apart the top peice,, 1 with small hole in it, ,clean this out with a ear bud stalk and do it for 10/15 mins as once i did this my feul flow increased on initial start up 15ml to 100 ml

      Someone needs to post this on the Stromtrooper forum. This is such a common problem for the old-gen Vstroms! What was the level of effort like to replace the fuel regulator?

    Have a 2012 with 83,700 miles (134,700 km's) and like you while going up a hill had the sluggish hesitation a few times so ordered a new strainer filter. Getting ready to put it in and this video really helps. Thanks

      Thanks! Hope it fixes the problem, reading other comments the fuel regulator seems to cause issues too.
      Mines been fine since replacing just the strainer though.

      I have the same symptoms same year but with 48280 km, I’m about to change the strainer. Did you actually fix the issue? Thanks

    • @SuperMegaSammy

      I find out the charcoal canister was sucking fuel and creating issues with my bike every time I refuel the motorbike I remove the darn thing, no more sluggish hesitation anymore.

    There’s so much to bikes that I don’t even know exists. The new vs old comparison….. could hardly tell the difference 😉

      This is one of those things that pops up on bike specific forums and groups. Maintenance schedule doesn't mention it. I put it off for a long time but glad I did it now.

    Good video. I bet mine looks about the same. I'll have to think about doing that soon. Thanks for the how to.

      Thanks mate. I put this off for awhile, it's not too hard just fiddly. Bike seems to be running better though.

    Thanks for the video! I've heard this was a pain or maybe you just make it look easy. Just ordered a new strainer. Going to give it a go.

    • @OzADVRider

      Bit fiddly but not too hard. Hardest part is getting the new strainer on, it's a very tight fit.

    Awesome vid super helpful. My 07 started playing up after i dropped it recently. Exact same symptoms - sluggish and faltering on the uphills. Going to give this a go and update with results.

    Did my 05 a couple of years ago and it made a world of difference. Just wish you had done this video back then LOL. Is there a patent pending on the fuel tank stand, so simple and brilliant 👍you'll notice the difference under load 😉

      Just riding to work today the bike felt much better. Why isn't this job in the maintenance schedule? Needs doing regularly.
      That stool is awesome for fuel tanks, it's padded so it doesn't scratch too. Think it's from the 60's or 70's. It has fold out steps, comes in handy for lots of things.

    What you have replaced is the suction strainer. The real filter is in the top most housing called a regulator in the parts list. It is expensive to purchase as the assembly comes with a new pressure regulator. I am about to do mine on a 2015 dl650.

    • @OzADVRider
      @OzADVRider  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I only replaced the strainer but my bike has been much better after doing it.
      Glad I didn't have to replace the regulator because your right, it is expensive.
      How did yours go after replacing it?
      P.S Sorry for taking so long to reply

      @@OzADVRider the fuel pump is way quieter. Of course the acceleration is back to normal which is good. I actually cut the top off the regulator assembly to see what's inside and went to my shop to show the staff as they didn't even know. FYI. The filter is a stainless steel multi layered mesh so could be back flushed and put in an ultrasound for thorough cleaning. This would work instead of replacement.

    My 2012 650 had surface rust in the tank, after doing the filter clean multiple times I bit the bullet and reconditioned that tank surface. I still find the fine filter gets 'something' in there so I've done the manual (blowing through some pipe) reverse flush a few times to. I'm ready to do the inline filter next time to end my power woes.
    It'll be interesting if doing just the strainer will be enough :)

      @OzADVRider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know lots of people do a fuel filter bypass, I've never really had a problem so didn't worry.
      Bike feels better now the filter has been changed though.

    cheers man , what's to stop the residual fuel pissing out once you disconnect the fuel hose?

    • @OzADVRider
      @OzADVRider  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fuel doesn't pass through the pump, you should only get a dribble when you disconnect the hose.
      You will want the tank pretty empty so you can remove the pump without fuel pouring out though

    Question: do you have the 10% ethanol fuel in the UK that we have in the US?

    • @OzADVRider
      @OzADVRider  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I'm from Australia, and yes, we have 10% ethanol fuel as an option here called E10. I don't use it, though.
      I use premium in my car and bike.

      It's usually around 5L per 100km. I don't remember if it changed any when I did this.
