Ruffati trumpets always sound heavenly
One of my college choral directors also played the organ. This was one of our favorites. We called it "The Superman Song". In fact, I had him play it as the recessional at my wedding.

It looks like there is only 2 1/2 octaves for the Trompette en Chamade. Although the sound is stunning, how does that translate into space on the keyboard? Basically, how do you not press the wrong key in this instance? Love pipe organs and this is my favorite section!

Wonderfully voiced trumpet. Sadly in the states many churches want the biggest and loudest horizontal trumpet and it does not add to the ensemble, rather a show off stop.
There are Ruffati trumpets on the organ at St. Paul Lakeland, FL. Beautiful indeed.

Great playing and great organ. But I never understood why this David German piece is so popular. It's extremely cheesy. It always sounded to me like the intro to an 80's soap series like Dallas or Dynasty or something.
Because it's an easy but effective piece for any festivity. Almost without fail I get asked about details of this music after playing it in service. It's easy on the ears and the harmonic structure isn't complex to understand.
That's the reason why this piece is so populär.

Yes, I missed out 1/4 in that point (1/8 from the minim and 1/8 from the crotchet). I think there are no differences in our scores.

Excellent but a shame about the tuning on the solo reed!!!! I know it's difficult to keep these things in tune though, temperature changes and draughts can spoil things at the last minute! Organ tuner in Bermuda!!!!
The organ has been recently fully cleaned and revoiced after a complete restoration of the church.
There is the idea of making a new recording for comparison, using exactly the same stops I used in the recording above (obviously with tuned reeds).
I suspect that it is not so much out of tune, as this is a 'feature' of the 'temperament' of the tuning? In the first half, everything sounds fairly smooth and pretty much in-tune... not perfect, but pretty good. That C# that appears in the last half, after the key change to, what is it, 5 sharps(?), it might be out, but otherwise, that key signature will be one of the ones that might be neglected when flattening the thirds in more common key signatures for well-tempered tuning. Except for that C#, it is all rather edgy... alternately flat and sharp. I suspect that's no accident. Maybe there is someone who knows more about this who could comment on how reeds like this are voiced?
