  • In the past two years, the surge in using domestically produced Made-in-China products has brought Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics manufacturer, into more and more households. However, incidents of Xiaomi products spontaneously catching fire have been occurring frequently. On June 17th, the topic of a "Xiaomi vacuum robot catching fire and causing a blaze" once again drew attention on Chinese social media.

The xiaomi battery were nothing more than cells wrapped in cardboard then covered in plastic wrap. Yes cardboard. The new LG battery’s that I got to replace the xiaomi batteries actually cost me the same a whole new xiaomi e-scooter each. The LG ones are cased in Perspex and have computer controls with monitor chips checking temps. The xiomi had non of that. Just a fire waiting to happen. The xiaomi battery died in 6 months, the LG ones are 4years old and still going fine.

I would love to buy electronics directly from Chinese suppliers, but even at vast savings, it seems too risky because of the globally sized reputation of the lack of professionalism and morals when selling goods. China's bad reputation globally seems to extend into construction, ship building, cars, EV vehicles, hydroelectric dams (ask Ecuador) , tunnels, railways, fighter jets (ask Pakistan ), aircraft carriers, submarines and on and on. China has set their own standards of excellence and the 'Made in China' stigma has been earned by their hard work in trying to fleece consumers and customers while making a buck. Sadly it seems that they were fleecing their own people well before they started fleecing the world.

I'm not trying to defend the Big C. In fact, I actually have quite a lot of reasons to be against them, everything they produce and everything they stand for.
However, I never had issues with my Xiaomi phones so far. Got a Mi A3 in late-2019 and used it for around 4.5 to 5 years. The only thing I was complaining about was battery life and screen refresh rate (after 3 years, that is). It worked perfectly fine for a phone with its specs.
Fast forward to a month ago, I got myself a Poco F5 and debloated it heavily. The only thing I can complain about it is it likes getting a bit warm (then again, it's 40 C degrees outside at the time of me writing this) and lack of a specific privacy-related feature ("disable all sensors" is unavailable on MIUI 14 for "some" reason). The performance is pretty good for gaming, and the camera (even though people dislike it) is still a big upgrade from my half a decade old phone.
One of these days, I'll probably flash a custom ROM or something. Once I get tired of them spying on me, I guess.

Xiaomi should focus on its smartphone. They have a high reputation in the smartphone industry. Sudden involvement in the household and automotive industry is a bold step for Xiaomi. Must because of Greedy shareholder/Ceo etc.

I've had 2 xiaomi phones, and the least they can last is about 2-3 years at max. I stopped buying xiaomi just cuz they are cheap to get with better specs since they don't even last long enough for usage. I have switched to samsung and it's been a life changer for me.

Most Chinese products are unfit for purpose. I have been actively trying to avoid buying Chinese products, particularly electrical goods, for several years. However, suppliers have been making it increasingly difficult to ascertain where their advertised products are manufactured. Several actually claim manufacture outside China.
Chinese electrical products short circuit & melt the product itself. They also burn out domestic electrical sockets & circuits.
Non electrical products fall apart after very little use. The soles on a pair of trainers which were advertised as not being Chinese in origin, came unstuck after only one month, & the lining fell to pieces.

While all other cases are Xaomi being cheap, unprofessional and selling junk. I gotta say, if you get a minor transport damage like a paint chip to your car and demand a new car, yeah nah then i am not on your side. Just ask them to replace the hood since that was all they say got damaged, the rest is fine.
Until it malfunctions and you crash ofc, but to demand a new car for a paint chip, god damn snowflake of a person.
