That's the only real issue I have with his new style. His footwork is better, he isn't throwing huge haymakers and he's more accurate with his shots. But he left his chin up and his hands down for a vast majority of the fight. But against someone who will throw and actually put JJ under pressure, that isn't gonna work, which I'm sure he knows. He was also a bit wild at times but that's sort of become his game plan when fighting someone with a longer reach, and it clearly worked so to each their own. He's getting there, slowly but surely.
We're yet to see someone approach Jake with that level of fearlessness and ferocity, so I'm very excited to see JJ bring it to him and see how it pans out.
I've seen this argument several times and I don't get it. The most success Jake's had in his career has actually been against guys that fight in that same reckless style. Nate Robinson got KO'd specifically for running fearlessly into Jake's range, Gib was putting an insane amount of pressure on Jake early on as well and was constantly getting countered. Tyron was the first guy who fought Jake with a far more measured approach and both those performances vs Tyron were his worst ones. Anderson also applied a lot of pressure on Jake, I mean hell, that's all he did. He was pressuring Jake onto the ropes and it didn't work. A lot of the wild swings that we've seen from JJ in these past two events, and the way he sometimes runs into range without setting anything up will without question get him knocked out by Jake eventually, even if Jake does respect his power more than his previous opponents.

If you watch back the Gib fight, Gib actually puts Jake into a corner fairly quickly, he just wasn't skilled enough back then to do anything with the position. The one time T-Wood put any kind of serious, focussed pressure on Jake, he dropped him and Jake had to be held up by the ropes. I'm not saying Jake isn't a good counter-puncher, because he's shown he can be - but I seriously doubt he'd be able to keep that same level of composure on the back foot against JJ, especially considering his bigger frame taxing his stamina.
JJ has so much power but I hope he works on his defense a bit more. I'd hate to see him eat a punch that's much stronger than he expected and hit the canvas

He has shown to have very unpredictable tendencies in the ring, Which has shown to overwhelm a lot of his opponent's. I'm not sure if this is the type of strategy he is going to be using going forward but he also has a lot of power that has shown to be dangerous.

Totally agree, I just hope when they fight, JJ is smart enough to understand that Jake is not the type of opponent that you KO in 1-2 rounds. Because if he fights like he did against Temper, he will definitely get punished with a counter punch (which is one of jake’s specialties). When that fight happens, he needs to figure Jake out, take his time, find where his weak points are and pick his shots carefully. But more importantly, we know JJ’s cardio is pretty much the best in the game (undoubtedly better than Jake’s), so he really needs to take that fight to the later rounds and then finish him off. I do believe JJ already has the ability to win that fight but it really comes down to the gameplan.

If KSI tries to move forward on Jake like he did with Temper then he is getting countered for sure, so they need the right strategy against Jake. If KSI can land clean on Jake then he can KO jake with his power, but it's not gonna be easy, Jake is skilled and fights well moving backwards. Also KSI's enemy is the uppercut, we saw how Logan hurt KSI bad with an uppercut, and tbh Logan would have beat KSI if he jumped on him after that uppercut. Salt Papi definitely would cause KSI trouble. KSI still has far too many holes, and only has speed and power. But barely any defense. Heart can only take you so far, Jake or Salt Papi would not get hit by many of KSIs easy to see punches and would cause him damage.
He’s very effective, even with his flaws, he overwhelms and makes it hard to capitalize against him. He drowns opponents aggressively and effectively. He has a high work rate, stamina, and has his success early. That’s a big thing to mention to me, as we’ve seen Jake lately get some of his work off later. That fight possibly drastically changes the longer it goes on. We know he can work off the back foot too. All in all, JJ still isn’t defensively responsible though. I would just really love to see him transfer to a BOXING gym. Pick up a more rigorous grasp of boxing fundamentals. I don’t think the shootfighter mma guys make him feel just how dire some of those neglected skills will be needed. I don’t see him having mma habits being to his benefit in a bout against Jake. He’s used to some tendencies that comes with that. And Jake can attack those holes, if he can effectively, he may be able to disrupt him early. I don’t see that mvp, karate setup working on Jake whatsoever. Possibly being punished hard if he tries at all. I just always think just how incredible KSI would be with a better, efficient grasp of the guard, head movement, and keeping his hand up
Really good breakdown, but I think one thing to mention is JJ's speed, he was QUICK with that combo, yes if Tommy's plan/defence was better I guess it wouldn't matter but man JJ can be explosive.
I feel like we need to see KSI fight Woodley. Woodley constantly walks forward and puts pressure so that would definitely show how good he truly is. None of KSI’s fight has he had any forward pressure. It’s always him walking forward. We could also see how a seasoned fighter reacts to KSI’s open chin in the air. I don’t think temper is as good as he may portray himself whatsoever. Pineda and swarmz literally lasted longer than him. KSI literally threw a 1-2 the same way Aldo did against McGregor and got caught. I feel like anyone with more experience would have countered that immediately.
KSI at his current level is not ready for Jake. But if he keeps improving at the rate that he is going, and doesn't let up on his training, he would absolutely be at a level high enough to make that fight competitive. The thing is, Jake doesn't stop training and getting better as well. KSI just needs to work on being more defensively responsible and logging that philosophy into his muscle memory.
“At jake’s level” 😂 They are on the same level, they would actually be a very good match up and real test for each other. KSI has a lot of output and pressure, something Jake hasn’t had to deal with yet and if he gets a bit of pressure he starts failing, and Jake has proven to be a good counter/power-puncher, a weak spot for JJ if he doesn’t adjust his defence/walking in to shots. Both aren’t on a decent level when it comes to technique, for the time they’re doing it they are decent, but they aren’t levels above each other nor close to a pro level 😆

Yes, Jake tends to put his head down and swing for the fence when a lot of pressure is put on him but that same action knocked out others in the past. If KSI one or more of those, it would be a long night for him. He has to know how to put on pressure but be wary of counter punches. But I also believe that if he were to fight Jake, he would not be overly aggressive because he would respect Jake's power unlike Temperr.

A good game plan can make the difference. Jake still has issues with pressure fighters. He has good strong power which helps him but his defense against Anderson exposed a ton of his holes.
The best part of KSI’s knockout was I could tell what he wanted to do when he was bouncing, but then he actually pulls it off! in spectacular fashion with a perfectly timed KO combo

Heading into the fight, Malik Scott was training Tommy to be a more proactive fighter and establish his reach more. The stuff he was teaching Tommy, like showing him how to use a long guard to interrupt his opponent's offense or use his jab from different angles, are things that I think will make him a dangerous fighter if he takes a few months out of the ring to train with Malik. I think once Tommy's finally booked into an event where his fight isn't some late notice bs, he'll rise to redemption quickly.

I find it hard to assess how much KSI is growing with all these short bouts against punching bags. Also, his MVP style stance and karate style darting in/out leaves you RIPE to get countered coming in. Both times he remained fundamentally sound with his fight stance, limiting opportunities to be countered. KSI needs to fight someone that is arguably better to push his limits. But as long as he and his team recognise that if Jake sits on a counter punch with jj rushing in he will inevitably drop jj. I aint no boxer but JJ's technique is not snappy/quick, its telegraphed and rushing, any technical boxer can take advantage of it by being on JJ's pace. Chaotic technique which scares the opponent, but this won't work against people like Papi & Jake.

It’s more risk reward than useful consistently. Used sparingly it’s a great switch and another look to ultilize explosion in quick bursts. Also a major risk in getting caught, but that’s the game you play

KSI getting better for sure, but he's not quite ready to beat Jake yet. Jake will punish KSI with counter punches. But KSI defo giving us more hope he can beat Jake. We all wanna see KSI flatten Jake, but i'm not 100% confident he can yet, but my confidence is growing since KSIs last performance
Totally agree, I just hope when they fight, JJ is smart enough to understand that Jake is not the type of opponent that you KO in 1-2 rounds. Because if he fights like he did against Temper, he will definitely get punished with a counter punch (which is one of jake’s specialties). When that fight happens, he needs to figure Jake out, take his time, find where his weak points are and pick his shots carefully. But more importantly, we know JJ’s cardio is pretty much the best in the game (undoubtedly better than Jake’s), so he really needs to take that fight to the later rounds and then finish him off. I do believe JJ already has the ability to win that fight but it really comes down to the gameplan.
@@strapats1 I agree. Jake can fight moving backwards so he can easily take out KSI with counter punches. If KSI tries to move forward on Jake like he did with Temper then he is getting countered for sure, so they need the right strategy against Jake. Jake is fast, skilled, has KO power and also has a good chin too. KSI has great KO power and better cardio, but less technical. It's gonna make a very interesting fight. If KSI can land clean on Jake then he can KO jake with his power, but it's not gonna be easy, Jake is skilled and fights well moving backwards. Also KSI's enemy is the uppercut, we saw how Logan hurt KSI bad with an uppercut, and tbh Logan would have beat KSI if he jumped on him after that uppercut. Jake will for sure jump on KSI if he hurts him like Logan did. Can't wait for that fight.

Salt Papi definitely would cause KSI trouble. KSI still has far too many holes, and only has speed and power. But barely any defense. Heart can only take you so far, Jake or Salt Papi would not get hit by many of KSIs easy to see punches and would cause him damage.

He’s very effective, even with his flaws, he overwhelms and makes it hard to capitalize against him. He drowns opponents aggressively and effectively. He has a high work rate, stamina, and has his success early. That’s a big thing to mention to me, as we’ve seen Jake lately get some of his work off later. That fight possibly drastically changes the longer it goes on. We know he can work off the back foot too.
All in all, JJ still isn’t defensively responsible though. I would just really love to see him transfer to a BOXING gym. Pick up a more rigorous grasp of boxing fundamentals. I don’t think the shootfighter mma guys make him feel just how dire some of those neglected skills will be needed. I don’t see him having mma habits being to his benefit in a bout against Jake. He’s used to some tendencies that comes with that. And Jake can attack those holes, if he can effectively, he may be able to disrupt him early. I don’t see that mvp, karate setup working on Jake whatsoever. Possibly being punished hard if he tries at all. I just always think just how incredible KSI would be with a better, efficient grasp of the guard, head movement, and keeping his hand up

Really good breakdown, but I think one thing to mention is JJ's speed, he was QUICK with that combo, yes if Tommy's plan/defence was better I guess it wouldn't matter but man JJ can be explosive.

I feel like we need to see KSI fight Woodley. Woodley constantly walks forward and puts pressure so that would definitely show how good he truly is. None of KSI’s fight has he had any forward pressure. It’s always him walking forward. We could also see how a seasoned fighter reacts to KSI’s open chin in the air. I don’t think temper is as good as he may portray himself whatsoever. Pineda and swarmz literally lasted longer than him. KSI literally threw a 1-2 the same way Aldo did against McGregor and got caught. I feel like anyone with more experience would have countered that immediately.

KSI at his current level is not ready for Jake. But if he keeps improving at the rate that he is going, and doesn't let up on his training, he would absolutely be at a level high enough to make that fight competitive. The thing is, Jake doesn't stop training and getting better as well. KSI just needs to work on being more defensively responsible and logging that philosophy into his muscle memory.
“At jake’s level” 😂 They are on the same level, they would actually be a very good match up and real test for each other. KSI has a lot of output and pressure, something Jake hasn’t had to deal with yet and if he gets a bit of pressure he starts failing, and Jake has proven to be a good counter/power-puncher, a weak spot for JJ if he doesn’t adjust his defence/walking in to shots. Both aren’t on a decent level when it comes to technique, for the time they’re doing it they are decent, but they aren’t levels above each other nor close to a pro level 😆
@@mas5517 KSI it's not defensively responsible to put on a lot of pressure and not take hits. Yes, Jake tends to put his head down and swing for the fence when a lot of pressure is put on him but that same action knocked out others in the past. If KSI one or more of those, it would be a long night for him. He has to know how to put on pressure but be wary of counter punches. But I also believe that if he were to fight Jake, he would not be overly aggressive because he would respect Jake's power unlike Temperr.

A good game plan can make the difference. Jake still has issues with pressure fighters. He has good strong power which helps him but his defense against Anderson exposed a ton of his holes.
The best part of KSI’s knockout was I could tell what he wanted to do when he was bouncing, but then he actually pulls it off! in spectacular fashion with a perfectly timed KO combo
So now I think everyone knows that KSI beats Slim, Salt Papi poses a bigger threat than Slim. That would be a risky match-up, but I wouldn't mind seeing Woodley vs JJ, to compare that to Jake vs Woodley.

Theres no point in comparing simply because styles make fights and woodleys style is just waiting for a counter punch and if hes hit, he wont throw, this could be bad or good for JJ and it will probably not end in a brutal KO since jjs punch placement is not the best

Heading into the fight, Malik Scott was training Tommy to be a more proactive fighter and establish his reach more. The stuff he was teaching Tommy, like showing him how to use a long guard to interrupt his opponent's offense or use his jab from different angles, are things that I think will make him a dangerous fighter if he takes a few months out of the ring to train with Malik. I think once Tommy's finally booked into an event where his fight isn't some late notice bs, he'll rise to redemption quickly.

I find it hard to assess how much KSI is growing with all these short bouts against punching bags.
Also, his MVP style stance and karate style darting in/out leaves you RIPE to get countered coming in. Whereas we’ve seen Jake throw a well timed haymaker to KO Woodley after setting him up, and also caught Silva with a counter. Both times he remained fundamentally sound with his fight stance, limiting opportunities to be countered.
KSI needs to fight someone that is arguably better to push his limits.

No doubt jjs gotten way better and is officially on the right path to Jake. But as long as he and his team recognise that if Jake sits on a counter punch with jj rushing in he will inevitably drop jj. Tempers not a quarter of the puncher Jake is so as long as they make that adjustment to be more defensively responsible than we’re definitely gonna get a good fight

Ksi is not Dangerous for jake. Temper Froze infront of ksi he tried but head was up and hands were out he's not ready for real opponents.
I aint no boxer but JJ's technique is not snappy/quick, its telegraphed and rushing, any technical boxer can take advantage of it by being on JJ's pace. Chaotic technique which scares the opponent, but this won't work against people like Papi & Jake.
I mean jake hasnt fought such a chaotic fighter like ksi, so you can really say tho.. but seeing ksi his technique this fight i still think jake might win

Is a karate stance really that good for boxing? All the guys you named who are doing it to are mma fighters and especially wonderboy uses the kicks with his lead leg a lot whis is part of why his stance is so effective but since you cant kick in boxing i was wondering if it will work for ksi against an opponent who maybe is a good counterstriker because the stance has a lot of openings due to the hands being low
It’s more risk reward than useful consistently. Used sparingly it’s a great switch and another look to ultilize explosion in quick bursts. Also a major risk in getting caught, but that’s the game you play
