Thank you SO MUCH for this video. Just found out 3 days ago that I’m pregnant (we’ve been trying for some months, so this is great news!), and the doctor’s appointment phone call is SPOT ON. I called my pcp and obgyn and neither were very eager to see me… I have my first appointment 4 weeks from now and had no idea that was normal. I’m less than 4 mins into the video and already feel more at ease. Thank you ❤
Shayla, your videos have been SOOO helpful for me! I'm not a mom yet, but my husband and I want to start very soon, so I've been watching and listening to ALL the mom-ing things. And you and I are SO similar in personality, and even if our life journeys! So it's just great to listen to your videos and podcast, and just feel like I'm listening to a friend. Keep it up! But DUDE I _really really really really_ hope I don't have bad "morning sickness". I HATE being nauseus. Freaking hate it. I know some women don't experience it that much, so I'm crossing all my fingers and toes!
Is so interesting for me how medical things and behavior change from each country, here in Brazil you see the doctor every month when your pregnant, ultrasond included, and they tell to make an appointment as soon as you find out and they shower you with exams, they do that even at free care. Also here we bath the baby everyday, some hospitals wait the first 24 h but most places don't, a plus is that cradle cap is not common at all here.
I’m 5’0 and started to show at like 10 weeks with my first baby. I also imagine my uterus is tilted forward. It’s so cool how everyone’s body is SO different ❤️
I'm on my second pregnancy, first pregnancy was a miscarriage. Currently 14 weeks and I'm so excited. From one mom to be to another, it gets better. Let's both have our miracle babies and hope for a healthy pregnancy. ❤
@@annectialee3965 OMG CONGRATS that’s so exciting 🥰🥰 I’m still coping with the news that I’m pregnant. It doesn’t feel like much other than everyone is super fricking irritating today.
Dr. Scheduled me an early ultrasound at 6 weeks and 3 days… I’m very nervous because of my history of reoccurring miscarriages. I’m worried that we won’t see much this early but I guess it’s good to check to make sure everything is where it should be. Fingers crossed it goes well!! Just 2 days till the US🤞🏻🤞🏻
@@Vlynlow09 it went well!! I’m now 24 weeks, at the first ultrasound we saw the yolk sac and the baby connected to that, and the gestational sac. Everything has been going smoothly other than the morning sickness😂
As someone with some medical knowledge, (vet med). An ultrasound works like a sonar, it sends sound waves and they bounce off of the baby/whatever the doctor is trying to look at (you can change the depth of the ultrasound by changing the frequency of the sound waves). There is absolutely no risks to the baby (or mom). Just thought I would let you know😋
I’m not pregnant yet but when the crying started and you said “that’s my baby not yours” I knew I’d appreciate that when I watch this again in the future. 😂😂
So the whole thing about when you go in to see your OB is variable and very doctor preference/practice specific. Some docs are exactly as Shayla described and they don't want to see you until you're 8-12 weeks along. But lots of other docs will have you come in around 6-7 weeks, especially if you have a history of early miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy or if you're considered high risk. They may trend your hCG and progesterone levels (or possibly not), and they may do an ultrasound to check for yoke sake/fetal pole/early heartbeat which appears between 5-7 weeks. Early ultrasounds will be done vaginally since transabdominal ultrasound probes often can't see baby well or at all until 10-12 weeks. ALSO you may have more transvaginal ultrasounds later in your pregnancy (2nd trimester) if there is concern for short or incompetent cervix; the length and closure of the cervix can be measured transabdominal, but the best measurements come from transvaginal readings. How often you have ultrasounds is dependent on your age and risk factors, as well as physician preference. I've had friends that had 3 or 4 ultrasounds their entire pregnancy but fetal heart tones (FHT) should be checked at every appointment once you hit the second trimester and it's possible to doppler FHT. My friends and I that are advanced/geriatric (I know...it's so insulting) maternal age have them every 4 weeks, and if you are referred to the high risk OB you may end up having an ultrasound every 2 weeks depending. There's a lot of variability. Around 11-13 weeks, they will often do an ultrasound to check nuchal translucency (this can indicate a myriad of possible disorders). Then around 20 weeks they will do an anatomy scan to check the development of baby's organs. And the pregnancy symptoms you may experience...y'all... there are so many, and some of them are really off the wall. If I had a youtube channel I would do a video on this because I was so blindsided by the symptoms I've experienced.
I LOVE this video - so relatable!💖 I’m 12 weeks now so going in to my second trimester soon but wish I found you sooner. I’m from the UK and had the exact same experience - pretty much left on my own until the first scan which is around 12 weeks. I googled and checked pregnancy apps non stop as I needed something to satisfy my curiosity. I felt so relieved when we had the first scan and saw a lil buba and a heartbeat
I have watched so many of these videos now and it is so interesting to me how big the cultural difference is to examinations when it comes to this...... In my country, you visit doctor every 2, max 3 weeks! Each time they measure how much you grow, the baby grow, the heart rate change, whether you need to change your nutrition...in case you gain too much weight that becomes unhealthy and.... it feels everything but not left on your own. Good job to all of you who had to self-navigate yourselves in this time.

I appreciated the note on showing earlier if you are shorter, I'm short with a short torso and around 8 weeks was already working my way into pregnancy leggings. The body proportions make such a difference. On the plus side I apparently come from a line of females that only get mild pregnancy nausea.
Girl, I love your content, bet the way the camera goes in and out so much makes me super nauseous/motion sick. I listen, but can’t watch, which is super sad cause you also show really cool things! Not sure anyone else has this issue or if it’s just me 😅 have a great day!
Been watching your videos from the beginning of your baby journey! We have the same views on all things baby! I agree with everything you have to say💖 You're so realistic.
4+2 here and I’ve had allergy/cold symptoms basically since conception day that have turned into a full upper respiratory infection. Apparently you can have pregnancy rhinitis (stuffy nose) for a long time, or you can pick up a virus really easily thanks to the immune system changes. One of my husband’s coworkers told him she was sick like this for 2 weeks at the start of both her pregnancies! I just hope it gets better soon so I’m not coughing up crud *and* throwing up…😳
Me and my girlfriend are expecting in 8 months, really scared / excited / nervous/ every word in the dictionary but just want to say this video calmed our nerves a bit thank for this video. Fun fact my girlfriend name is Shayla so we felt this video was meant for us 😂
I just started watching your videos, and I love the delivery and that straight forward, get to the point way of things. I also appreciate the sarcasm and the general humor. BUT it wasn’t until @11:29 that I said “you know what, this lady’s alright. Subscribe!” I’m not even pregnant and I don’t have kids. 🤷🏾♀️
I knew something was up when I had two vodka and sunny d drinks and felt absolutely sick. Then it happened AGAIN . This time it was two super weak tequila drinks at a restaurant and immediately threw up my entire dinner….. the drinks were literally the smallest thing ever and drowned in juice. It was more fruit juice and ice than it was tequila and i projectile vomited into the toilet. Yesterday morning my husband told me I seem off and insisted I take a pregnancy test. I considered it the day before and brushed it off because I’ve taken over 40 strip tests in 2 months and it has been nothing and my periods are always either one day early or late. This time it was one day late yesterday. In under 2 minutes, my pregmate strip test had two extremely dark solid lines and I nearly shit a brick. Now we’re just stock piling money, and figuring out how we’re going to temporarily make our 2 bedroom apartment work out.
high mercury fish are the big ones, because they not only absorve it from the water but also from the smaller fish they it... the smaller the fish, the less mercury they have. So no Tuna for example. Go for fish that could fit in your plate and you should be ok (like Merlusa/Hake)
My first two pregnancies I was soooo 🤢 all the time. Third pregnancy barely sick at all which was a nice change. I also had a BUNCH of ultrasounds because I was high risk. Second pregnancy less but still quite a few. Third pregnancy I've barely had any. I've had 3... that's it
Thanks for the information at the end about miscarriage and around what time most ppl tell about the pregnancy. That’s really useful. As for the rest, I always get surprised when ppl don’t know theses things. I’m 30, planning to have kids soon. But like that’s common info-no? Or did I waste my 20’s on learning about the wrong stuff? 🤦♀️
Yes! I found out I was pregnant 11/17 & I called thinking “ok, great, I’m going to say I got a positive on my pregnancy test & they’re going to schedule me for an appointment next week.” Nope! They were like “congratulations, we’ll see you at your 10th week on Dec 21st.” My mind was 🤯 & then like she said I just googled everything until I got to my appointment lol Congratulations btw! Hopefully you can get in sooner at your 6th or 8th week.
@@tryingtofindmyNICHE aww thank you! Congratulations to you as well! My first appointment is the 12th of January haha so a little longer to go! How did your appointment go? What all did they do?
Keely Ann Thank you! The 12th is my second appointment, how funny! My first appointment went well. We discussed my medical history, I was able to ask some of the questions that Dr. Google just couldn’t answer for me haha, my ob/gyn did a breast exam... you are usually supposed to get a Pap smear as well but I had just had one recently so we skipped it, but definitely expect that at your appointment. Then we did the ultrasound!! So amazing! First she went over my belly and you could see Baby but so small, almost like a smudge so she decided to do the vaginal ultrasound & yeah it’s a wand that they stick up there haha but with that we could really see Baby. She briefly let us listen to the heartbeat which was 171 which she said was good. And then she measured baby to double check my due date. And then lastly I got blood work done. In the panel the two things that really stuck out to me was my blood levels (blood count, hct, hgb... which can let you know if you’re possibly anemic & I learned that I am borderline so I’m currently taking an iron supplement in addition to my prenatal) and my thyroid result. Fortunately, my thyroid is doing alright! And they also took a urine sample. With the blood test this is routine for everyone but they also checked for STDs. And I think that’s it 🤔 Sorry for talking your ear off! Haha I hope your appointment goes well!!!
@@tryingtofindmyNICHE Oh wow! What a coincidence! Haha Thank you for the information!! This is really helpful, I appreciate it 🤗🤗 I'm a bit nervous about the wand thing 🥴😳 but I have a feeling ima need to get over all that real soon. Were you able to bring a support person with you? I know depending on where you are, some places don't allow it. Thankfully I was told I can!
Keely Ann Have you ever had a pelvic exam where they inserted a speculum? It’s like this duckbill looking thing that’s plastic. Everytime I’ve had a Pap smear they bust that thing out & that’s really what the wand felt like. A little awkward, a little uncomfortable when she was moving it around to look at my ovaries, but not painful at all!! She also slathered a lot of lubricant on it before inserting, so don’t worry :) I was allowed one support person so my partner came with me! The only bummer is that we learned that he can’t come to anymore appointments until my 36th week. As you said, it’s different everywhere, I’m in the Pacific Northwest, so hopefully where you are you can have your support person for all of your appointments. I just wanted to mention that though because naturally we assumed he’d be able to go to all of my appointments since he was allowed at the first, but looks like (depending on the facility) that’s not always the case.
March 2020 I was told that I had a large fibroid in my uterus and March 2021 I actually had it removed. It was big enough and in a position where it caused infertility. Now I have to wait till the end of September to try getting pregnant which I'm excited about I really hope that it doesn't take me too long but who knows. I actually had my first vaginal ultrasound when I switched to OBGYNs because she needed to see if I was a candidate for a laparoscopic removal which I was but it was too big so I ended up having to have major surgery to cut open my uterus to remove it. Of course this means I will need a C-section when I do get pregnant but I'm okay with that.
hello, I'm sure you won't see this given the fact that this video is nearly a year old but I wanted to site this video on a paper I'm working on for expectations while pregnant and I was wondering if you wanted me to site you as Hay Shayla or just Shayla? Thanks for the wonderful video by the way it is very helpful in my research.

This video is amazing, thank you !
Yep, I am short and I started showing at 20weeks. Like oh HELLO baby😂
Just found you, and you are fantastic! I love your content, and grounded, easy-going personality.
Yay thank you and welcome!
Hahaha when she was crying and you said it's my baby not yours. You got me🤣
You are a hoot 🤣🤣🤣 so animated I love it!
I'm not pregnant but im doing obsessive research before I try. 😅
Thanks Shayla!
high mercury fish are the big ones, because they not only absorve it from the water but also from the smaller fish they it... the smaller the fish, the less mercury they have. So no Tuna for example. Go for fish that could fit in your plate and you should be ok (like Merlusa/Hake)
Thank you for all the useful information 👏
Your bebe is so cuuuuute😍
Of course!! I hope it was helpful, thank you!
What is the name of the brand of leggings you said? I couldn’t hear 😭
Great video!! I’m not pregnant but just love learning about it lol
Blankie blonky something like they
Blanqi leggings!!
LMAO your phone call to the doctor was so relatable. I found out I'm pregnant with my first on December 26th. Eeeeeep
Yes! I found out I was pregnant 11/17 & I called thinking “ok, great, I’m going to say I got a positive on my pregnancy test & they’re going to schedule me for an appointment next week.” Nope! They were like “congratulations, we’ll see you at your 10th week on Dec 21st.” My mind was 🤯 & then like she said I just googled everything until I got to my appointment lol
Congratulations btw!
And I think that’s it 🤔
Sorry for talking your ear off! Haha I hope your appointment goes well!!!
@@tryingtofindmyNICHE Oh wow! What a coincidence! Haha
Thank you for the information!! This is really helpful, I appreciate it 🤗🤗
I'm a bit nervous about the wand thing 🥴😳 but I have a feeling ima need to get over all that real soon.
She also slathered a lot of lubricant on it before inserting, so don’t worry :)
I was allowed one support person so my partner came with me!
Hey Shayla, tell me the company if your leggins again!
Blanqi!
@@heyshayla THANKS GIRL!!
hello, I'm sure you won't see this given the fact that this video is nearly a year old but I wanted to site this video on a paper I'm working on for expectations while pregnant and I was wondering if you wanted me to site you as Hay Shayla or just Shayla? Thanks for the wonderful video by the way it is very helpful in my research.
Hey Shayla, I love your videos. Just a short notice: Check the title again, I don´t think its grammatically correct. :)
😅thank you!!!🙌🙌
My sister found out she’s pregnant but she doesn’t remember her last period what should she do
Go to the doctor, they’ll do an initial ultrasound. The sooner she goes in the more accurate

Just signed up for the probiotic, but I’m feeling kinda silly that I waited til 29 weeks having had intense nausea, heartburn, and constipation all pregnancy! I like the ingredients in their postnatal so I ordered a bottle of it too for when the time comes! Thanks for the education.
Of course!!
Don’t feel silly, you don’t know until you know!
“That’s my baby not yours”😂😂
Wow this is amazing
LMFAO that’s me 😂 @2:00
Does having a miscarriage change the way you look at life and pregnancy?
Totally pregnancy after miscarriage can be scary
How’d I miss this one? 😑
