Bright sun, warm waters no shaded undercut banks, overhanging trees, bridge pools, underground spring feeds for them to congregate, tough conditions indeed. What are the permitted fishing hours there? First light water would be my first choice since I suppose night fishing is verboten there (not here) 🍺👌
Hi Hal hope that you and yours are well. the top pool is a 9am start but can fish until dark . but its a bit of a journey (1 hour 30 mins) home for an old guy as the road has a lot of bad bends and dips and camber that runs the wrong way. We anglers are always looking at the weather and hoping for the right conditions so until then we will have to take what comes . Cheers Iain 🥃

Thank you Paul . The shielding in Scotland has now been lifted but it is still a worry and Frances does not relish the fact that cancelled hospital appointments are beginning to be sent. I was plastered with sun cream and almost as slippery as a fish. I am looking forward to next time as its a lovely quiet place and only three anglers fish at any given time. I wondered about a small weighted Black or Red Francis for the deep fish? Lovely day and seeing the odd fish move so there's always hope!! Better luck next time.
Thanks Simon I have fished with Black and Red Francis flies before and never caught anything on them even although others anglers that were fishing on the same beat had fish on them. Its a strange thing that anglers adopt, if a fly works then its fished more and more . the more they use it the more it catches fish and other good catching flies are left in the box , the video would have been a lot longer if I had added all the fish I saw. I did have a fish pull at the fly twice but it never showed up on the recording. I am now looking forward to the next trip with three boxes full of flies and decisions to make. Stay safe . It is great to see that many fish in the river and I think that there are a few rivers that are seeing better numbers of fish entering in to them. I was in the mood but the fish...... always have the last word and it would not be the same it they went for the fly every cast . i know that I will blank again and on occasions catch . its great that we have the opportunity to have a cast . I have been out 2 days recently on a little spare river on the west coast.... 25 hooked and only 5 landed... all catch and release... it is getting the biggest run I have seen in over 20 years... all big fat healthy Grilse... whatever didn't happen at sea because of lockdown has obviously benefited Wild Salmon! 😉👍

All the rivers in Donegal are getting much better than average returns this year... great to see! I have had a few mates up who were lucky enough to be able to get up... all got fish which was great... Some anglers say this is why its called fishing and not catching. Sometimes I think it should be called ### frustration!!!!! . We all have days like this Mr Yorkie and it makes the catching days more memorable . The rain has been heavy most of today and I am supposed to be going for a shot of frustration I mean fishing tomorrow but I will wait and see how much the river rises before I decide to get up early in the morning. Hi Stephen years ago a ghillie on the river Thurso (Morris) told me that you should only tie your flies the same distance apart as the salmon you hope to catch. I have my dropper about 3ft from the tail fly. I use a water not for my dropper and I never weight my single hooks as I use them to try and get the flies as near the surface as possible . I use a floating pollyleader so that the flies are high in the water. Cheers Iain 🥃

Iain SB yes I am the same could go out and catch 100s of trout in one day but for me it’s the experience of fishing, the screaming reels and bent rods never caught a salmon I love watching them on our river..

I know how you feel, spent two days on the Tyne, not a lot of fish showing and covered a lot of them, just not interested in taking the fly.
