the best troll map ive ever seen in doom was this map, exactly the same but the exit was blocked off and they called it "the dead end" its such a stupid pun and i love it
Its a Romero map, thats to be expected.
This is Romero's best work for Doom II.
Perhaps the only level of his that mixes perfectly the Doom 1 maze nature of levels, with the focus on verticality of D2.
Love how the action is a literal crescendo that culminates in a Cyberdemon battle on top of the "mountain". To bad you can just skip it, instead of actually kill the C.D like Against Thee Wickedly.
Between Monster Condo, Spirit World and The Living End, what a great way of end the game before the final boss.
if only this was the final level instead of the Icon of Shit
@@januszkomin3490 yeah, they could have placed a real final boss on the mountain, and you'd be forced to retreat to the initial areas, the entire level would become a boss fight arena.
Definitely feels like when they got to this point, their mastery of the Doom engine was really starting to show. Big open area, the flow of showing you where you're going to end up (but you're gonna have a heck of a fight to get there), and the way you work your way through the level... *chefs kiss* Much better than some of the more simple "maze-like" levels, this has a great sense of "place", something Romero did particularly well (not to dismiss the others, Sandy's prolific work included, but Romero definitely has a touch with his Doom levels).
"You're doomed"
"Speak of the devil"
How meta
This map is so tough, well done! Nearly done with Doom II now!!
It's amazing how well the map pushes you to constantly move forward and stay on your toes, it's basically a Nightmare map in all but name
It's well done. In UV, I hate the first room on that path. If you wasted ammo while shooting in the distance at the start, you're done there. They should have made it impossible to shotgun the cyberdemon over the edge with no risk, though. 😄
I like your pfp
this map literally stepped up the game even more. also this song just slaps
So satisfying to watch Decino in proper form! Swift and accurate moves, beautiful!
The Penultimate map is another banger. Shawn's Got a Shotgun is a great song and with tons of enemies, one of the more twisted designs that makes you feel like your ascending a mountain, and a climactic Cyberdemon fight, this is one of the most iconic.
Really well done on this one; no outtakes! But man, we're near the end already. Looking forward to Map 30; hope RNJesus is kind to you on that day! 😁
And we are close to the end, excellent run as always.
Man this is quite hardcore. I did a nightmare playthrough of doom II on youtube years ago and I remember this level very clearly, because I found it to be the most difficult by far, especially the end. Rewatching my own video and comparing it to yours I found it not worth it/impossible to get rid of the respawned hitscanners at the end so I found just rushing up the stairs and just tank all the hits was the way to go. Anyway, great series, it's fun to compare your strats to the ones I used (even though I had no constraints other than no saving). You also make it look so easy somehow . I don't really play anymore but would have loved to exchange ideas and strats. Great to see some love for nightmare :)
Doom 2's always felt like a mixed bag to me, but this map stands out as one of the best. What a way to (almost) end a game.
I feel like Doom 2 like was id discovering its footing with the doom combat formula but with some hang-ups from Doom 1's mazy shooting gallery design, like they were still getting a feel for the new sandbox that the enemies and the new tool in the SSG added, kinda makes me wonder if they just did one more hoorah after this. Alas the community transcended them.
He did it! Pumpkin Man did it! He beat Doom II Hell on Earth on nightmare. You made this map look easy, but its a real challenge to beat it pistol start. The icon of sin is such a joke I don't even count it towards completing Doom II on any difficulty. Congratulations Decino :D
Those instructions he gives while going through the levels make it feel like a cooking tv show.
probably my favourite doom2 map. no idea why, just lot's of memories.
Love this map, especially this music, my favorite out of all Doom maps. Great job Decino, one more to go!
I can not believe it's nearly finish of Doom 2 on Nightmare, that was quite a journey :D
What a chaos in this map, wow
Massive kudos on finishing this first run. I figured this would have brought along a lot of outtakes.
I'm impressed how you keep making these maps look so easy :o
One take is really impressive on this. Romero killed it with the angles, hitscanners, and overall balance on this one. It's incredibly well crafted without feeling cheap. The chaingunngers guarding the plasma are a particularly nasty trap. The waiting for lifts and such were well done to make you feel confined, but not without options to fight back. It's a beautiful thing.
Honestly, I could see this being the basis for TNT Evilution turning into hitscan hell. They took all the nasty trap ideas Romero used with restraint and made them into an entire megawad. Yuck.
This is one of the maps I missed out on as a console player. A worthy penultimate level, and your Nightmare run made it look like a real blast to face!
They removed this level from consol? That's messed up.
@@lankymaccrazyhair264 the PS1 version of Doom had several levels cut. It was also missing the Arch Vile and Icon of Sin.
But to make up for it, we got Doom II monsters in Ultimate Doom.
@@thestabbybrit4798 it's missing the final boss? Come on, a lame final boss is better than no final boss... What's the final level in ps1 doom?
@@lankymaccrazyhair264 The last level of PSX Doom is Redemption Denied. It's a single room arena like E3M8 with a bunch of Barons in the middle, and when they die walls lower to reveal two Spider Masterminds in opposite corners.
Wow. I never would have expected zero outtakes, that's insane! Great job on oneshotting this difficult map.
I can't believe I waited till the very end to become a member of your channel!
"Without the plasma you're doomed."
HA, get it, because the game is called Doom.
I'll see myself out.
hope your happy. because of these great videos i’ve played doom, sigil, doom 2, TNT and Plutina. All UV. in Plutina i had 1% health and stumbled into a secret and got a mega sphere. didn’t realize it until mowed some revenants and wondered how i survived
Now we expect 30 outtakes for map 30
It's so beautiful to watch you tackle each map on nightmare strategically, very well done mate 😁
your playthrough and strategies helped me FINALLY beat map 29 on nightmare!!!! thank you so much for this amazing run!!!!!!
"Without the Plasma, you're DOOM'd." - Decino - 2023
Chaingun and Plasma gun are definitely the 2 MVPs of your Nightmare run.
Wow, good run! Those teleport ambushes are crazy!
Tell me one thing pumpkin man. You know everything about all the dooms. You know every level and you can play it at an incredible skill level. You know the code, the mechanics, dodging all the shots like nothing. You are even better at multiplayer than JR himself. Tell me…. Are you an Icon of sin? Or maybe retired doom slayer, reliving his wild past? 😂❤ i love your style decino. For me, you are Uncle ducino for eternity.
Edit: wuw u xoxo
Damn, that was full on the whole way through! Nice work. Thanks!
I forgot how cool this map is. Very good job doing it in one go!
i like a lot map 29, feels like you are at the center of everything before jumping inside the brain and that song feels so good.
Also amazing first try, always moving foward with no hesitation and with the plus of no outtakes. Congrats!
Nicely done! This is one of my favorite maps from Doom 2, it just has an awesome midi and challenges you almost everywhere
Absolutely astonishing that this was your first attempt - I based my own routing off of Peter's as well, so no surprise that yours felt familiar at first. The amount of times you can get scammed on that final triple-switch area and final staircase is unreal. And don't worry, not disappointed at the lack of outtakes, just surprised. Just goes to show the skill difference between Pumpkin Doomgod and the common folk, I suppose!
HI
decino I have not watched one of your FANTASTIC videos in sooooo long and they are even better than I remember your the BEST TH-camR EVER in dooms history👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
A really great map. Not surprised you were a bit worried about this one in terms of difficulty. Great run.
Never got to play the classic Doom games but I love watching content on them you're definitely my favorite
Awesome game play, a master at work!
I love love love listening to you decino. Your work. Game play and voice. Make me feel like I'm listing to a friend and keep me comfortable in times of stress. Even hot me on Xbox playing the expansions and such. ..
I hope your day is well my future friend
I knew it ! It took only one attempt to complete this map, just as expected ! Great job !
Perhaps when we expect great challenge that we can overcome and feel confident enough, we became more overally prepared, even at thinner, deeper layers that we don't notice usually... And a bit of luck of course ! And enough of sleep and vitamins and hydration of course !
Also funny caco in thumbnail feels *veeery* familiar, like I've seen him a lot of times already... Like a tiiiny subtlest gag/expression type of familiar...
It's really impressive that you did it with only the weapons on the map.
For me, the frustrating thing about this level is the random respawn timers. Nightmare is mostly about shooting and moving, but the entire level is designed to just make you wait. Wait for the teleport pause. Wait for the bridge to rise. Run back and forth in every room pressing one button after another. If the monsters had a reasonable forced internal cooldown on their respawn then it wouldn't be so frustrating. The majority of my deaths are a result of that baron of hell respawning on the pillar, or being swarmed with cacodemons -- props to how you sidestepped that one in the third bridge room -- or just having those god damn revenants in the final room chain respawn before you've even cleared the shotgunners off the bridges.
It's a fantastically desiogned level, but it has just one thing too much going on when respawns can range from being nigh instantaneous to being 3+ minutes long.
Fuggin nailed it! And the ending staircase... At times it looked like you were just a pixel away from falling off the cliff. And that Caco trying to block the path was a nice little surprise 🍅💀
"Focus on the revenants and the shotgunners." Or, translated: at anything that moves. Love the level, it's been so long since last I played it.
Holy crap man 1st attempt ? Well done cos that looked like hard work so much to do so many caco's sheer hell
1. You didn't get any secrets...
2. You didn't chainsaw the cyberdemon...😮
Terrific work, decino! It's totally impressive you managed to beat this map and didn't die once. Honestly, I was expecting some outtakes here
I wonder if Hell Revealed is possible on Nightmare. It would be a nice throwback to the start of the channel.
What a flawless run, my man! Just like when The Beatles recorded "Twist And Shout"... in 1 take! Outstanding work. 😊👌
Absolutely monster to slay in nightmare 🍿🔥 incredible work pumpkin man 🧡
How could we be disappointed, that was a mesmerizing run to watch! Felt like the Doom equivalent of a juggling act with how fast priorities shift and you constantly have to be on your toes.
I'm not as big a fan of this map as most typical Doom fans, but I will say that it's one of those maps where, for some reason that I don't even know, it still grew on me a lot when doing it from a pistol start. Same with map 14. I guess some get better, some get worse when you do that.
This is probably my favorite DooM II level, this or Vivisection. It's just such a fun level with plenty of tense, close up fights but still a large area that helps feel the scope and gravity of the pen-ultimate level. And then the Cyber demon that shows up at the end just made it feel quite epic.
This map looks so good always liked the design of it and originally it kicked my butt a few times but nowadays I tend to fly through it though I always forget the plasma secret anyway icon of sin next so will see how quickly you get through that I deliberately didn't look at the video length but yeah with that as always cheers for upload decino
The true last level of doom 2.
It feels like it all comes together here.
Can't wait for Nightmare Plutonia!
I wish I knew the plasma was down in that tunnel. That would have saved me from having to play this map about 15 times last week. I really don't remember a lot of these levels well anymore since it's been around 15 years since I had my last playthrough, but I sure like these maps over the Final Doom maps I'm playing now.
imo one of the hardest maps in doom 2, great run
No outtakes huh? I kind of expected you to get a good route here for some reason. Plasma and chaingun are nightmare's worst enemy or better say player's best friend and it's really nice to know this, if I want to try nightmare sometime.
Map 30 isn't much different than on UV, I bet.
Muito bem Decino!
Você é um mestre do Doom!
A engenharia criativa de Romero é sua assinatura!
Doom é o melhor game FPS já criado!
Vytaan needed 60 runs and had to switch to mouse to make it.
It's a very tough map for keyboard only.
This map is peak Romero. And Shawn's Got The Shotgun is one of the best tracks in Doom II's soundtrack.
0:39 ouch face!
I think I speak for everyone when I say I can't wait for Decino to play The Master Levels on Nightmare...
Awesome level. It builds and builds to the final showdown, thankfully that Cyberdemon can be ignored. When I first saw this map, my friends saw the CD and backed off and had to try and kill him from a distance not knowing he could be ran by to win.
When I replayed Doom 2 last year I'd forgotten about this map but I loved playing it. Great, great map.
This was the map that I almost never visited during my first years of playing Doom as a child, because I was too afraid of map 30 😆
map30 was the scariest for me because it pretty much ignores -nomonsters
Wow. Wowowow. Wowowowowow. I can't believe you just did that on your first try. Good freaking job. Wow.
Very fun to watch. Nothing else to add.
Thank you!! I was stumped
In every Doom game I played I've never encountered a level that literally feel like rng and I'm getting so frustrated on this level and the fact I'm just try to do is just to get a single achievement so congratulations on first attempt I'll keep trying to do this level until I beat it
I love this level because this first time in where a advance level don't exist keys, only switch buttons.
and because the tension of that level shows that all hell will not let you visit Jhon Romero.
Wow, you really nailed it! 😎
Nice run pumpkin man
What astonishing skills you have wowww
Thank you again for endless DOOM love 🤜🤛
Why would anyone disappointed of lack out-takes?
I'm not even mad, that's amazing!
They call this the living end but when you're really not good it's the living pistol start.
Nice job, very skilled play in this one!! Who knows why that plasma isn't a secret?
Romero got inspired by that Doomworld post.
@@decino Oooh, timetravel plot! Is that meta-meta-meta?
Amazing!
I've learned Nightmare is about rng and developing strategies
Epic level, even more epic on Nightmare.
When I was a kid Cacodemon's were my favourite demons, because they looked so cute. I mean they still are not gonna lie. But this was my favourite Doom map since there were so many of them. I thought that this was their home in hell haha!
This level is extremely difficult without the secret non-secret plasma.
I'm surprised there's no outtakes at all. Very well done! Now only the joke map remains.
This map is legendary
Man that was impressive
The best map from doom 2 😊, hope the people who got the submissions enjoy 🎉🎉
I'm sure that the next map will be a bit different, since monsters will spawn out of bounds as you fight the Icon of Sin. Certain source ports may have options to fix the issue by setting the respawn point to the position, where the monster has spawned from the spawn cube.
Congrats on D2 on Nightmare! Map 30 is basically a formality
...or a Victory Lap?
And we're at the end of DOOM 2. Was a blast. Last level is virtually the same as UV.
"With practice, anything is possible"
-Decino
It's an objectively brilliant level. There's so much going on, and it pulls off everything it tries really well. It sometimes feels mean-spirited, though. But I guess that's not out of place for Doom. And it's certainly not as sadistic as a lot of things that happen in Plutonia.
Hey Decino, I’m curious, once you complete Doom 2 on Nightmare will you consider trying the other commercial expansions packs on Nightmare as well? (Plutonia, No Rest For the Living, Master Levels etc.) Or at least the maps from these games that are doable on nightmare? Or will this be the end of the Nightmare Marathon (Nightmaraton)?
TNT Evilution would be interesting to see on Nightmare!. I find it pretty forgettable on Ultra Violence and not excessively difficult, so Nightmare! may save it...
Great run!
You fricked up in the doom 2 nightmare playlist. It’s currently map25 then map27 then map28 then map26 and then map29 (or at least that’s what it shows me for some reason)
Fixed, thanks.
Oh my God we're almost to the Finish Line almost to Map 30 time flies really fast that I believed. As for map 29, I'll tell you one of the most confusing and the most grueling and challenging map I ever seen in my opinion on nightmare it took me several tries to figure out a good strategy to kill all monsters and getting the secrets and not to mention lots of hit scanners ready to ruin your day, but you know what I prefer it on nightmare over ultra violence because an Ultraviolence I found it kind of lame to me but on nightmare it makes it more interesting to me plus it makes me think whether or not if I going to move or attack the monster. Overall pretty fun map on nightmare but hey I'm ready for Map 30 though.
Imagine if there's exactly one outtake on M30 and it's because of an unlucky cube frag.
Very good here. Doing this in Nightmare Mode is hard, but at least it wasn't the worst. 1 more map to go and your done. I wonder if TNT is the next one in Nightmare Mode? 🤔
A Sunday afternoon doom 2 treat with decino, love it😀😀
