    To be fair Hotch used to be a prosecutor before joining the BAU. So Haley didn't really know what she was getting into by marrying him. I still felt like she was a little cold in the way she handled it though.

      I love how the men in the comment section doesn’t see it this way. Always blame the wife. We know it’s his job but he barely see his kid or wife they expect them to be happy about it. She tired of being the single married mother 😅

      @@SS-cl2nn Yes but if she decided to marry a very accomplished man she should understand what she is doing and she should know he isnt going to be around as much as a stay at home wife would be and its the same if it was the other way around it doesnt matter if its a woman or not so no need to bring up gender.

      @@SS-cl2nn Oh c'mon. SPOILER ALERT JJ and her husband made it work, and so did other couples in the series because they wanted it to work. Feels like Haley didn't. If he calls every day, puts food on the table, roof over their heads, it should be fine. His family was the purest thing to him, and she took it away.

      Prosecutors I want to say are just as busy talking before a judge doing there job as a FBI agent I mean minus the hunting down criminals so yeah I still don't understand why Haley was all upset now if he was cia being all everything I do I work is classified than I'd understand cause he'd be late just cause

    i dont think thqat hotchners wife knew what she was getting into. because they have been dating since high school. they have been together since they were teens. he was a prosecutor first. he moved over to the BAU and its such an intense job that it put too much strain on their relationship. and once there was a child and he didnt slow down or switch to something else she wasnt willing to live like that anymore. their relationship hadnt always been that way. there were many years of it where he didnt have that job. he made a choice. not sure if it was the right one. i think either way he would have been unhappy.

    This is one of those cases where the killer goes probably to a mental hospital but in the case of the father he's going to jail, tampering with evidence, obstruction of justice and the list likely goes on. Glad everybody got closure as I don't care how long it's been people need that.

      I’m sure the list ends there but yeah on the wiki is implies that the clown was sent to a mental hospital, hopefully everything went alright for him after that tho (Ik he killed ppl but still)

    First, I always figured this could have been the first case Rossi had with children involved, or at least where the children survived. He said he couldn’t get their screaming and crying out of his head. That could be why it was the one case he couldn’t let go of.
    Second, it is absolutely possible for the serial killer’s mother to still be alive. I work in a nursing home, I have a resident who is turning 101 soon. Her 70+ year old son visits her, her (grown) great grandchildren come to visit. Absolutely possible.

    I really like the realism of the kids not growing up to be super functional, after all, trauma tends to ripple. Not to say some can't overcome, but I appreciate that in this case they showed that they were not having an easy time.

    In most typical divorces, there's not really anyone at fault. Usually, life happens and two people drift apart and become incompatible. Haley didn't know he would one day join the BAU. She didn't know he would be regularly absent. And then, maybe she thought having a kid would change things. A LOT of people think having a kid or more kids will fix a relationship. And even if it was initially her idea, well, it takes two to tango. Hotch agreed to having a kid. How can you blame a woman for wanting her husband to be in her and their kid's life? Once he changed jobs, she thought she could handle it for a while, and then she couldn't. If anything, it's Hotch's fault for making several promises and then not fulfilling them. He never had to make the promises. Anyway divorce is so much more nuanced than just blaming one person. Sometimes one person is at fault, but most of the time it's not so dramatic lol.

    This episode(the unsub) has always reminded me of Lenny in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. An adult with the mental capacity of a child that doesn't realize his strength. Granted the ending of this episode is different than the ending of the book.

    • @animegamerjace9851
      @animegamerjace9851 ปีที่แล้ว +5

  • @Anetron1
    @Anetron1 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I'm surprised no one in the comments mentioned that the whole scene with Hotch and Reid being locked in with the unsub is clearly based on a real life episode when FBI profiler Robert Ressler was interviewing Ed Kemper and Kemper started playfully threatening Ressler that he could kill him before the nearest guard could open the door. It wasn't nearly as tense as it was shown here and Kemper was just fooling around rather than genuinely threatening to murder Ressler, though. The episode is also depicted in Mindhunter but again, it's a lot more tense that it was in real life.

    Strippers make a lot on money, and is often appealing for trauma survivors since they’re dissociation often makes it hard for them to focus during normal jobs.
    And looking at her age if she didn’t have a job before becoming a stripper it can be very difficult to find one.

    20:18 - to be fair, at this point, Hotch still has a choice. He can change jobs and work it out with Haley. Put the family together again. But I guess it's easier for him to live without a wife and son then not do his work.

      @@SimpleReactions True. They both do. But it seems like she is, if not happy, then content with her choice. Hotch looks pained and depressed. My point (which wasn't clear) is that his emotional pain is partially his choice. So I feel for him, he's a good man who deserves to be happy, but it's not like there is nothing he can do but suffer.

    One thing that confuses me about this episode is that in an earlier episode he said it happened on Christmas Eve. And I always assumed the kids got the gifts on the anniversary of the crime, since they assumed the gifts came from Rossi (he calls on the anniversary every year). But it’s definitely not Christmas in this episode. Am I wrong about something, or did the writers screw something up?

    • @amaryllis543

      I'd have to rewatch the episode but I think it took place a little while before or after Christmas, not on it. If they said differently in another episode they probably messed up

    Since there aren't enough main characters to do a top 10 maybe you could make a top 10 of the criminals once you finish the series. Of course it would be more about picking favorites rather than character development like usual.

    Sucks for agent Hotchner. I agree 👍 about blaming her. They've been together for years. You'd think she would be proud of the man he is. He's been this guy for a long time.
    On the other side of it it's understandable to want someone home with you when you have a family. I think she will regret it when he finds someone else. I don't think he would do that being he wants his family but that door is WIDE OPEN with the signing of those divorce papers. 💔
