I am Nephi Acaling. I am native to Bacolod City but currently living outside the Philippines due to job assignment. I’ve lived in different countries like Singapore, Japan and United States due to job assignments. I was in the US when I started this channel thus the confusion to some where I am truly based.
At a time, I was a band vocalist performing every Friday and Saturday night at a local bar chain but recently decided to quit from my band to focus on my TH-cam Channel and my full-time job as an engineer.
I was a member of the Filipino Voice Symphony where I was taught by professional chorale singers (e.g. former soprano from UP Madrigal Singers). Our choral group actually bagged the Gold Medal in the International A cappella Championships held in Singapore in 2011.
I was the Glee Club president and was a trainer for various singing competitions when I was in the university - all these were humbling experiences for me.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
My mission is to promote music among different regions and try to make people from different countries relate to each other through music and singing. I have always believed that even small gestures in understanding similarities and differences towards others may actually lead to greater awareness about countries and their people.
In this modern world full of things that divide humanity, it is but perfect to put efforts in re-uniting and building bridges among all of us.
I have come to a point of trying to find a greater purpose in life, something beyond just being happy for a moment. Happiness in life is more meaningful if we choose to be useful, be honorable, be compassionate, and make a difference.
Hatur nuhun tante Hetty telah membawakan kembali lagu ciptaan almarhum Ayah saya, Ajie Bandy.. meskipun saya baru melihat performance Damai Tapi Gersang duet bersama Joy Tobing. Suara tante Hetty tidak pernah ada perubahan sejak awal menyanyikan di Tokyo duet dengan almarhum Ayah saya tahun 1977 silam... Tetap powerfull dan pitch control sangat baik.

She once had been rejected to join an international song festival by the organizer because she had won that festival 2 times in row before 🤣🤣🤣
She has a very powerfull voice & she is also one of Siti Nurhaliza's vocal coach. She is very famous & highly respected in both Malaysia & Indonesia. She turns into 63 yo this year.
This song entitled "Damai Tapi Gersang" Was the winner of Outstanding Song Award at World Pop Song Festival (WPSF), Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan in 1977. She was the singer of the song there.

This is an International Song Festival in Chile 1983/84. Hetty Koes Endang was the best singer in this festival (the song was the third winner). She defeated Earth, Wind, and Fire.

The one who shout at the end is Soimah. She is one of the judges there. She is actually a great singer but mostly known as a presenter and comedian. Not many milenials know her as a singer since she appeared every day on TV doing comedy.

Damai tapi Gersang is written/compossed by Mr Adjie Bandi in '70s and performed in Tokyo Song Festival in 77 by Adji Bandi himself duet with Hety Koes Endang. They won an award in this Festival. This is the first debut of Hety Koes Endang. Then she became a diva. Even not as senior as Hety Koes Endang, Joy Tobing is consedered as a senior singer. She won the first Indonesian idol in 2000's. In this video, Mdm Hety and Joy performed Damai tapi Gersang as the guest stars. Just FYI, Damai tapi Gersang means Peace but Arid. This song is considered as the first song of Hety Koes Endang.

It was a singing competition called "Golden Memories Asia" (GOMES) 2019, which was attended by 6 countries including the Philippines. The others are Indonesia (host country), Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Timor Leste. There were 24 contestants because each of the 6 countries sent 4 singers.
Joy Tobing from Indonesia (Bataknese) was the Winner of the competition.

Talking about singing character, I think another performance of Joy Tobing in Golden Memories Asia which is her collaboration with Iwan Fals in the song of Aku, Kau dan Bekas Pacarmu should show how stronger character so well mixed. That's a legendary popular song created and originally sung by the legend himself, which is very well known by its deep and strong message from the lyrics. Iwan Fals himself is a male singer in Indonesia popular not only by his voice which is unique character and have strong charisma while calmly performing on the stage, he is also one of few singers that has the gut creating songs with lyrics contains messages social and even political critics that close to lives and concerns of large number of people while still melodically beautiful.
